Hey i was wondering if it would be possible to make a custom quad exhaust from the RE DMS. if i split up the two "cans" and put one on each side and change the tips from single to dual would that work? would everything work properly and sound right?

It’s easily doable but, if you split the “cans” you would have a strange look to your exhaust set up. The outlet/tip isn’t centered so if you do a duel tip set-up with that one “can” it would be toward the side. Unless you twist the “can” so the bulge is on the bottom of the car and the tip is closer to the car. If you really want a quad set up, buy two sets of the exhaust and do custom piping. I do have a quad set up on my car, and just to let you know. There is no room for a muffler under the rear right side of your car. There is only room for a pipe, no balky muffler (fuel pump location)

i would only have the tips showing out the rear, the muffler wouldnt be visible

Id say, instead of seperating the muffler cans, better cut the pipes behind the muffler can, and put the muffler can in the 2nd resonator location and weld the stock pipes to the muffler can, clamp custom made pipes on each tip, and get tips from RE or just ask the shop to make custom tips with y-pipe for the left and right side.

This is a quick diagram.. Hope it helps.

will the exhaust still sound right?? since the muffler is in the middle of the car.

1. anything is possible with enough money
2. i dont know why you are talking about seperating the resonator when the first resonator is delted from your diagram, i think that would be the way to go
3. you most likely cannot go around the spare tyre, it requires precise and awkward bends, and small diameter tubing

the better route would be to cut into your spare tyre well and run the passenger side exhaust diagonal through it. dont forget to add a heat shield.

(will require a good deal of time and MONEY, including a good shop, a more economical route would be to just purchase an eisenmann quad)

 y would i do all that when i can just do what he posted in that diagram?

The exhaust should sound just the same. U can still keep your first resonator on the car. Just take out the second one in order to put the RE DMS on the 2nd res location. Just FYI, even Eisenmann Quad and Remus Quad passenger side tips piping go around the spare tire well. U have to make the pipe that goes around precisely. But any good muffler shop/welder should be able to do that.

just leave the DMS alone, or save the money for a more aggressive rear bumper that you've been complaining about

omg

because 1. the exhaust does not actually run like it does in the diagram

2. you cant just run diagonal piping, because if you run it underneath the spare well it would be very very low if at all possible (youd have no clearance)

if you want to make a real custom quad there are two ways to do it, with a Y pipe or with an m3 exhaust both are going to require you cutting out your spare well, and with the m3 exhaust raising your battery

its going to cost quite a bit of money id imagine. but thats why its rare. sure you could i suppose, custom bend tubing to go around the spare well, but why the hell would you when you can buy it like that out of the box?

edit: as it turns out i am in fact, wrong, about most of what i just said ^^

here is mel's custom quad (corsa) which is run in a similar manner to which youre referring. however instead of splitting the piping (which would require cutting the existing muffler and pipes, and fabricating custom piping for the passenger side) she just put a Y pipe in behind the spare which branches off of the 2nd existing pipeline.

however my concern is rattling etc from a not so tight fit. i mean what the hell does the passenger piping bolt on to?

p.s. mel said it was cheap to have done

i also am still concerned about clearance.

taking it to the shop tomorrow to see what they say

as for bolting it they weld a 1/4" thick pole i guess u can say to the spare and then weld it to the pipe...it stays pretty good

and as for clearance ur fine its been done by a few (otherside, mel, etc)

the biggest issue is whether u wanna do it mel style or fabricate from the first resonator back like otherside

oh and fitting it to the rear bumper so it still looks good

yeah its hard to tell from mels picks exactly how clean the cut into the CF diffuser actually is up close.

that shouldnt be too hard considering my current rear bumper doesnt even have a cut out for the exhaust

yeah it has a half inch dip, youll need to cut the otherside a half inch for it to look correctly

(ive seen it done wihtout cutting it on the eisenmann and it looks like butt)

p.s. i know because i have the same year coupe as you
