View Full Version : ASA SK1 @6.5psi on Steptronic 330Ci w/ZF tranny - UPDATE

FYI - I've been running the SK1 kit @6.5psi on my Step 330Ci since last November. It dyno'd at ~260WHP/~245WTQ which for auto trannies is about 330HP/300TQ at the crank.
So Far, So Good :D
I redline the car frequently, and regularly shift at 4000rpms and up (fuel efficient: NO, hella fun: YES). I have driven the car very,*VERY* hard at numerous autox events this year. The tranny is really being abused...BUT - works just fine! I'm supposedly running over the limit of this tranny. I did have one minor issue with the tranny where it would downshift to 4th occasionally when cruising on the freeway, but I had the tranny adaptations reset at my shop and haven't had the problem since.
I just shed alot of weight by putting in racing seats, and I have a limited-slip differential sitting right next to me waiting to be installed. I'll do some more 0-60 runs with my G-Tech Pro shortly after to compare with previous times. I'll post the results in the next update.
I LOVE my supercharger  . I can't wait to line up against an e92 someday - uh, not that I condone street racing or anything :eeps: .

have always been a fan
GREAT to hear you love the 6.5 and that it makes such wonderful crank numbers, not so great to hear you lose so much through the AT, oh well. still a pretty big leap over stock numbers
ive heard that a centri car will not FEEL as fast as a dyno would imply. do you agree?
what clutch are you running? lwfw? cams? which racing seats did you get and how sweet are they? do you miss your warmers? i want some recaros so friggin bad but theres no way in hell i can afford them
p.s. some day we have to face off just because of our user names :P

:dunno: Not sure what you mean by "centri"?

Clutch and LWFW are only for manuals. I can't do cams or headers - its been proven that those mods would take it over the top and break the tranny. As for the seats, check out this thread on the Sparcos I bought. $880 total for parts and install.

Oh...it definitely feels fast. Not so much on the low end, although I can really spin my wheels when brake launching, but it really pulls as the RPMs go up. Lots of torque can throw you back and downshifting to pass? There's this huge smile on my face when the tach jumps to 5000 and the car just hauls. Passing is NO problem, hee-hee...I did get a speeding ticket recently though :thumbdwn: A little too much fun with it.

thats awesome, i LOVE to spin my tyres, waaaaay too much in fact. on sunny days i cant make myself leave the asc on (540 burns rubber a helluva lot better than the 3) and thats pretty much the 1 area that i hate my 3, it needs to chirp. i looooove to chirp
not really familiar with automatic trannys at all, so im not sure what brake launching is, but id like to be able to dump the clutch and lay some black stuff down (or maybe some donut smoke  )
what gears are you capable of chirping into? (not sure if this applies to AT, like i said ive never had an AT) my 5 does it into 4 at only factory rated 282bhp, i figure at 310-340 the 3 should be able to handle it (i hope)
is there a certain rpm you start to feel boost? or can you feel an increase accross the whole tach? ive heard a lot of people say you start to get the benefit of boost at 4200, which is a LOT later than i wish :( getting it around 2750 wouuld be ideal, but i understand its not a perfect system
also i know its been a while but who did your install? did you watch it?
i personally really really want to DIY it but im getting mixed reviews on how hard it is
does your kit run on the technik ECU upgrade or the older ASAtronic+FPR?

I really need to get more wheel and tire, because the 245s, even with sticky racing rubber can't hold it - I come around a corner and get on the gas, and I'll light up the tires every time. I plan on doing fender work to squeeze in 18x10s and 285s back there.

Similar to a clutch drop. Hold the brake and rev it up, release the brake and get on the gas. I did this the other day at an event and my friend said everyone was really suprised to see me filling up the wheel well with smoke as I really spun it.

If I'm just cruising around at part throttle, then mash on the gas, the torque will throw you back instantly. If I'm pedal to the metal WOT, yea I don't really notice the boost until 3500+ I think.[/QUOTE]

I left it at the Technik shop here in LA. Samir runs the show, but zolti's the guy who did the work.

wow you are seriously getting me wriled up
245 in the rear has to go! i have 265 rr right now (well i did, i will when i pop my summers back on) im gonna slam that sh1t on race springs for the time being, ill let you know how that works out. im not sure the particulars, but i do know that 10inch in the rear HAS been done on a non-m, supposedly no rubbing but i dont really believe that without at least fender rolling
285 in the rear im sure is the sexiest thing in the world, i love me some thick rubber
you said even with sticky tyres, what do you have on there? i assume this is a DD in addition to the autox beast right?
i think once i go FI im gonna be running the ASAtronic, i hope that goes smoothly, mr paddle shift says its butter smooth, so im hoping to hold off on the technik ecu upgrade for a while, its like a friggin grand :yikes:
be sure to post some vids sometime when you get the chance! love to see her in action

ZF is just the brand that makes the OEM automatics. GM did make some too, i guess that's why he chose to put ZF in there..

Oh my car feels plenty zippy. At the lower RPM range it's kinda like "cool it's definitely faster than stock" once you hit about 4K it's "holy crap, slow this thing down." :yikes:
