i will be staying in kuala lumpur near the petronas towers area. aside from car parts/accessories shops, i am also looking for chop shops. do you have the local adress for Calvin's shop? i understand i must take a cab to go plaves in malaysia unlike in hong kong where you can walk or take the subway

Its a shop... all items are on display. The workshop (to install and tune the cars) is on the ground floor whilst the products/accessories is on the 1st floor.

There arent any chop shops in the Petronas Towers area of Kuala Lumpur. So you might have to travel a little to find a decent one. To be honest, the easiest thing to do is to contact Calvin at Eurocarmotorsport and tell him what you're looking for. He's got a couple of Aussie customers who make requests for parts from chop shops so he's got some good contacts. Beats taking a cab to dodgy parts of Kuala Lumpur looking for car parts! :-)

Dont worry, it wasnt a stupid question. The phrase TT refers to Teh Tahrik sessions. The Showru meet ups are a weekly thing which the BMWClubMalaysia guys organise. There's no "signup" or anything. Just show up and you'll be welcomed. It starts at 930pm. The place is actually right-smack at the entrace to the Kelana Jaya stadium.

The e46ers meet specifically on Friday nights too at the Petronas Station in Mutiara Damansara. Essentially, head towards to IKEA in Bandar Utama. With IKEA on your right, and the Bintang Hotel on your left, you'll see Petronas straight ahead of you. Meet ups usually start at 11pm. If you're interested in attending this week, PM me for details and i'll keep an eye out for you. Alternatively, if you wanna join in the "Historical 3 series" Meet Up on Saturday, there'll be a convoy heading to the venue so PM me for those details too.

As for exhaust and ecu upgrades, therre are a few places in Sunway which are decent. The e46 car club guys send their cars to get chipped either at MSport (in Sunway) or at Stuttgart (Taman Mayang) or Calvin's shop. Safest bet is Calvin's shop as you're guaranteed of workmanship and original parts etc. Also, try www.motorsportdivision.com for items if you're scouting around. There's also Auto Technica in SS2 PJ (www.autotechnica.com.my) which is pretty good as well.

Guys.....the BMWClub is having some big TT in ShowRu in Kelana Jaya which starts at 2200 ie 10pm. To keep the peace :blah: :blah: :blah: , it might be a good idea if we went there first and then leave at about 1030/1045pm for our usual TT. Those who don't have their BMW Club car stickers should be able to pick them up from the ShowRu Committee members, which would also be a good way to meet the rest of the Club :jack: and talk-kok with the other guys for abit :drama:

Anyway, those who don't know where ShowRu is, let me know. I'll wait for you guys at the SS2 BP (now BHP) petrol station from 930pm. Departure is promptly@945pm to ShowRu. Where we TT from 1030/1045pm is entirely up to you guys :-) There are a couple of places in Kelana Jaya itself or we can, as usual, end up at Mutiara Damansara :censor:

Nope, not @ McD anymore...

Mamak Tanjong Bistro is a nice place, but friday nite sure pack one. There's empty space we can all park directly across the road facing the mamak or along the roadside next to it oso can.

If thats the case, we HAVE to leave Mutiara Damansara (sorrylah eddie but "saying" DP just sounds so freaking porno :hitit: lol! ) at 11:15pm sharp. Too much dilly-dallying and TT's seem to be ending closer to 3am. Can't have the "other halves" bising-ing that some of the guys are returning at the wee-hours of the morning :yikes:

So this Friday, will everyone please be at the Petronas Station by 11pm so that we can head off promptly. Sorry to be so Gestapo on the matter but if we keep sembang-sembang it just frustrates some of the "older" members who have expressed annoyance that we're standing around for a good one hour most weeks waiting for the rest to show up.....

as much as we do strongly encourage the members to regularly organise meet-ups, howeva there r unwritten rules to b abided. in the past we had all decided dat there shld b no other mini BMW Club of Malaysia TTs bein held on the same day and time wiv the Official TT. dis OF COS is exempted if the plannin of such TT wuz done outside the forum (i.e another forum, sms etc) n we hev no control watsoeva.
imagine dis, shld any ugly scenes occur durin one of these mini TTs (esp convoys) without the consent of committee n furthermore it clashes wiv the official TT, the comm wld definately b part of the blame fer bein unaware of the such TT occurence.

I totally agree with karate70, chubby and bmwcar2. I find that the company very warm, enjoyable and adultlike. I personally agree that the meeting at Mutiara Damansara should continue for the sake of...hmmm...great teh tarik at a great time of 11.00pm (very convenient).

If such a gathering is deem illegal, I think that other gathering on other days, other venues and other time should be considered illegal too. Thus, all gathering of 2 or more BMW is illegal. Hahaha! So if mutiara damansara is illegal, so is hartamas, klang, ampang and etc. Does it mean that if we park next to another BMW we are considered illegal too...will I get a saman?

not even close. there is no way to get around losing power through your drivetrain, a fact of life

underdrive pulleys send less power to accessories, like AC....i dunno, otherbullsh1t that isnt necessary to driving, and so "robs" the engine of less power. good for 1-2hp. decide if that is worth it to you.

I'm thinking to get an E46 in Malaysia end of the year or beginning of next year. I can only afford a 2001-2002 model, 318i E46. I've seen in the newspaper that there's Japenese models and other imported models. So which is the recommended models to buy ?

Welcome to the forum. First things...do join us on Fridays at 11pm at Mutiara Damansara (Klang Valley) for our weekly meet-ups. Nothing fancy, jsut a bunch of e46 guys chilling. Best time to ask all the questions you would no doubt have once you start test driving some cars..

As for your query, it really depends on your requirements. As a general rule, there will be slight differences in the spec of the cars comparing a UK and a Japanese spec model. Perception is that a Japanese model will have a higher spec for the same amount compared to a UK spec. Thats a PERCEPTION, its not necessarily true. There are also slight differences in the body kit. The most niggling issue is the milage...there are instances where the Japanese models are highly "re-wound" on the milage indicator. However, this doesnt mean that UK cars aren't though. The japanesecars are in KM, the UK ones (unless reconfigured before they reach M'sia) are in Miles.

Best thing is to test drive the cars and see which feels better. But, its highly recommended that you join us at the Friday meet-ups so that you can see the differences in the cars.

Would not put too much emphasis on whether it is a Japanese, UK, South African model or CKD model..... its the condition that is the most important....

If time permits, join us on fridays at 11pm at mutiara damansara petronas..... between 8 to 27 cars there each week.......last week was 27 cars...... - Japanese, UK, CKD models are all represented there......(south african models none in our group so far - few of them - most of them are E classes but they mostly have lead hard lives...)

As what my wife aka my speed booster told me all the time - maintaining a UDM is not that expensive actually. I spend more on my other ride Mazda Astina everytime it goes to the clinic. It will get expensive once you're hooked to the "poison". Trust me the maintenance part is not that expensive unless you compare it to a local/Japanese car. :thumbup:

my e46 is a ravenous money hungry machine. if its not for petrol its every other thing like mantainence and normal service for wear and tear parts never skimp on this, preventive measure is important and any leftover money i have goes to mods.

i am happy so its worth it, just makan pasir everyday la! so get the car as soon as possible no regrets

welcome kyewkan, when it come to maintenence all cars need to be maintain when all the parts goes more than 5 years is time to change when it kaput. BMW parts are more costly than jdm generally so when u buy the car, condition of the car is more important than any jpn/uk/ckd as our fren mentioned. if the condition of the car is good so u dont have to repair, thats about it, difficult to tell hw much coz we dont know the condition of the car & what need to change.

Best thing is to come on FRIDAYS@11pm for the gathering. Its a weekly meet up...average number approx 30 but usually approx.34. We meet up at the Petronas station in Mutiara Damansara. Directions are: Head towards the IKEA in Bandar Utama. With IKEA on your RIGHT and Bintang Hotel/The Curve on your LEFT, you'll come to a set of traffic lights at the entrance to the carpark for The Curve. GO STRAIGHT at those lights, you'll see a Mc.D's and just after the Mc.D's is PEtronas. Members start rolling in from about 1030pm so come by at about 1045pm. Can't miss us.... a whole bunch of e46's in the same area...just walk over and intro yourself.

A couple of non-bmw guys have shown up to find out more about the car etc. We're always happy to give pointers and info based on our experience. No harm no foul.
