Hi, the question is which supercharger.

For a: 2000 323i steptronic.

Problem: It would be nice if it would also fit a m/t 05 330 as that is what I will have December (when I graduate college)
____THIS IS, AND when it is gone the 330 WILL BE MY DAILY DRIVER

Has?: Anyone heard of VF engineering? I have a price from them of $5000.00
____I likey price...

________________________OOOOOOOOKay....should I just wait until december and get one for the 330? This cash is burning my pocket and I want more speed NOW.

___SO which supercharger?
___S/C 323 or wait for 330?
___Can any S/C fit both?

Tell me about your supercharger
What manufacturer? How do you like it? Are the Gains Awesome? Reliability!

I have the VF, awesome hp gains, very reliable, somewhat cheap, will not fit a 330 and 323 interchangabily. I would say wait till you get the 330, then go twin screw :) (or get the stage 2 VF kit when its out with the liquid-air intercooler)

Awesome, Thanks guys! I am gonna try and wait then. I probably really need to get a m/t anyhow shouldnt I?

Crovax- can you get a boost controller for that s/c that will let you adjust boost from driver seat while you are driving?

When I get one- and wind my car up a road will i get an overwhelming feeling of satisfaction that way justifys the 5k? We are talking a significantly different car when you add a supercharger right?

yeah, the car is much faster. It would be even quicker with some kind of intercooler and more boost, but its still a whole other car (walked a new 3.2TL the other day). As for the boost controller...I suppose you could maybe circulate some air from going into the motor but why would you want to? the kit and the software is designed with constant boost levels in mind. Hell im not sure its even possible. They do it with turbos by controlling the wastegate which controls boost in a turbo, but its really pully size that controls boost with a supercharger, sooo dunno how possible it is. Maybe someone else could chime in.

definltey wait until the 330. don't feel that if you have cash now that it would be enough for what you want (supercharger). trust me, there will be other things you want/need to buy also. save your money and put it all towards the 330. december isn't that far away.

you cant use a boost controller like a turbo, for obvious reasons if you are familiar with superchargers....

Wait till you get the 330 and pick up the not-yet-released ESS Twin Screw

I was thinking maybe you could use a device (not a boost controller obviously) to route some of the compressed air from going into the motor...kinda like having a boost leak. I have no idea why youd want to, but I'm just saying you may be able to achieve the same effect...

If you're familiar with superchargers, the only way to change boost is by changing the pully size. It's not like a turbo where you can control on amount of air allowed into the engine.

i understand what you are saying but it would retard the boost accross the board, and you would only be controlling how 'retarded' it is (haha)

so when you turn it the entire way up it would simply function at normal boost :dunno: like you said no point.

this works in a turbo because the insane amount of boost possible. i suppose perhaps you could rig some device with like a 12.5psi pulley and trigger your wastegate at, say 8 psi, to give you more level boost accross the board

I am not familiar with the workings of superchargers- most cars I have owned were best modded with turbos. I enjoy turning the boost down for daily driving, then cranking it way up for a spirited drive/race from inside my car while I am driving.

Most superchargers are around $5000.

good news- the centri SCs on these cars are pretty mild and very driveable. companies like AA and technik have done the RnD to make sure they are great daily drivers, so no worries there

bad news- you are not going to be able to crank the boost on an SC, sorry its just not practical, perhaps wait for a turbo kit to be released if its your cup of tea.

but overall you may be happy with an SC as it doesnt begin (from my understanding) to turn beastly until 3-4k rpm, so you wont notice how much power you really have until you punch it.

and for a top of the line kit id say look to spend at least 6k on the kit, plus 1k for install, 1.3k for clutch and flywheel if you wanna do it all at once. the 5k kit is the ess base kit which doesnt come with an intercooler (correct me if im wrong but the tx-2 is more expensive, along with other comparable kits)

All this supercharger talk got me really wanting one!!!! Anybody got one to sell for a 330i?

P.S. No way on changing boost on SC without changing the pulley. Besides, there is no reason to change the boost, if the kit is made to run on 6psi, then you don't wanna go any higher (unless you have an engine transplant planned somewhere down the road). And you don't wanna go any lower because then you're not making all the power you could, and why would you wanna do that?

I have the AA 8psi kit on my automatic (steptronic) 323i, i love it, very reliable, made the car MUCH faster then it was stock (which sucked)... overall very happy and i believe they are having a sale this month. I also hear you can swap it onto a 330 with the change of a couple parts, most likley will not cost too much.. check it out
