hey just out of curiousity I was wondering if there have been any xi's that have been sc'ed. It may be a long term goal for now but i can't recall any xi's having a kit.....also are the kits as effective since they have to deliver the power to 4 wheels instead of 2? I don't really know much about SC's so if anybody that knows a ton please chime in.....

I have a 325xi with SK+ and love it. Only drawback for me is mine is an automatic and occasionally my tranny safety light goes off because of too much torque

I have an '05 330Xi and I've been interested in supercharging myself. As far as I can tell, the SK+ is a legitimate option for supercharger. For more power, ESS Tuning offers a package with software tuned for the AWD/steptronic system. Also, Vortech Engineering has their engine tuning performed by GIAC, a well known chip-tuner that would probably have no problem accomodating the additional requirements of supercharging a steptronic X model.

From what I can tell, the AWD models can't handle much more than about 310 horsepower, and with the automatic they program the shifting so it's not quite WOT right after the shift points, but rather builds to it quickly to avoid overwhelming the transmission. As I understand, a limit of about 7PSI is apparently about right, too, which is why Stage 2 systems aren't offerend for any automatic AWD models.

In a nutshell, I'd try contacting ESS Tuning, VF Engineering, and Technik Engineering, because they're probably accomodate you as well. Let us know how it goes!

I talked to VF engineering about that topic. I have an '03 330 xi and am also looking to s/c mine in the long run....very long run, its expensive. But they said that their system works very well with the xi and that they have done dyno testing on an xi and found roughly the same results from TWD to AWD cars, just that it goes to all four. I have a manual so probably a little different

Did they say anything about the awd system not being able to handle as much power as the RWD set ups? I have a manual as well so I would like to know what they told you about manual XI's?

They didnt say specifically that the AWD couldnt handle the power. I would imagine that it will cause our clutches to go out faster but that is to be expected anyway. I asked them if you had to do any tranny work, i.e. a new clutch, and they said that it was meant to work with the stock vehicle and no clutch work was necessary. Though it wouldnt even hurt. I dont even know of were to get upgraded XI clutch parts.

I am getting ready to convert my 02 325xit to a 330 complete with 6MT and the plan also includes a SC. It's going to be several weeks before I can get started so I too am shopping around.

What I have found in the early stages is that there seems to be quite a bit of contrary information out there. It's rather confusing. To intercool or not- add on ECU or software alone?. Just on this latter question alone there seems to be little agreement. Some people swear that add on ECU modules are the best way to go and others that there is no alternative for a total software solution.

I have an additional ECU complication with the engine swap . Two respected tuners tell me that all I need to do is flash my 325 with performance software for the 330 motor with or without the SC while another tells me the only way to go wth the SC is to buy a fresh virgin 330 ECU, mate it to my car and load the appropriate SW.

It would be great to acomplish the swap without having to buy a new ECU at ($1100) but if I succeed I'd also like to know that it will work 6 months down the line when I add the SC.

(BTW For what its worth when I talked to a couple of people the first question they had was: "This isn't going into an AT car is it? We don't really want to do SCs in automatics any more.)
