There are suttle difference such as markings on the outside rim....something on the lines of UL or something. Other than that...it is one of the best replica rims I can see to date of the LMs. Putting on the BBS logo is like putting an M3 badge on a 3 series conversion to look like an M3...its the same logic and idea.

they're cast wheels and are strong and light at 28lbs each for cast wheels.

Right now the factory does not have a plan to make a 9.5 rear, but if there are enough interest for ppl to put a deposit for us to help get the mold made for 9.5. We can definitely do this for everyone. :)

impressive

330 HRE
07-21-2006, 12:44 AM
The one way you can tell is the placement of the valve stem. On authentic LMs, the stems do not cut into the face of the web design. another way is that on the web design itself should be markings like JL or something along that shape. Plus you will have BBS stamped on one of the inner face Only a LM hore will know what is real and not. :) Another thing would be the offset would be on the face of the rim also.

Lugnut2683
07-21-2006, 01:18 AM
The fact of the matter is, most of the people on this forum only go with what they hear, and can't even tell the difference between authentic and replica anyways.

I know a member on here who has these wheels and posted pics of them, and everyone was like "sweet LM's, those look great!". And then he had another thread where he stated that they were replicas, and everyone was like "wow, yeah, those suck... the are obviously replicas, just look at them." Dumb kids... :owned:

the non-staggered set batch will come in very soon.

as for staggered it'll cost $8-9k to get the mold made which it may not be profitable for us to do this right now even though we really want to bring a good product for people to enjoy. In order for us to do this we may need a GB of 20 people.

Would you recommend going with the 30 versus the 35 aspect ratio? My car is slammed on Tein coilovers... I'm wondering if a 255 tire with this wheel will clear the front inner fender well from lock to lock? :dunno:

Justin,

we would recommand 255/30/19 if you want to run this size for the rear, but I do not think it will work on the front as it's too wide.

Straz, just to let you know, I heard that there was discussion of a staggered setup. The issue though (that I think most people are unaware of) is that if the manufacturer DOES produce a staggered fitment... the rear wheel will be wider, but it will have a different offset so that the rear wheel will not have a deeper dish than the front. I think most people here like the staggered setup because of the deeper rear wheel than front look, but if they do manufacture this wheel staggered, it will not have this visual characteristic (it will only be a physically wider rim).

I personally think that would still be better than just have 8.5 all around. Coming from staggered 18's stock, I'd rather stick with a staggered setup if I were to "upgrade"

its pretty simple.... i was told the mold for the 9.5" wheel would cost $5000

profit on the wheels is probably like..... 200$ (just guessing)
split between the manufacturer and retailer, thats like 100$ each (not sure how this works... im just guessing still)

that means they would have to sell like 50 sets of wheels just for the manufacturer to break even...
not worth it for them.

Why do you prefer the staggered setup?

I'm on a staggered fitment right now, and my car has the characteristic understeer even with my Tein coilover setup. Going to a non-staggered setup will hopefully relieve much of this understeer. The main reasons people go with staggered are for the looks, unless you are running massive amounts of horsepower and need the extra rubber out back to put the power down.

My car is supercharged, however, it is not putting down massive amounts of power. I admit that it is just more aesthetically pleasing to me to have a wider setup in the rear, even if it is only .5 or 1" wider.

I currently run Pss9's and don't feel too much understeer with my setup.

not worth it for them.

We spoke to the manufacturer on the cost of the mold and it was actually closer to $9000. The manufacturer told us that unless we're able to order 200pcs it won't be profitable for them or us to make the mold which Presns is correct that we will have to sell around 40+ set just to make even.

on the 19x8.5 setup you can run tires up to 255/30/19, so staggered tire is not a issue if you are looking to put the power down on the supercharged beast bimmerboy36.

btw guys, the next shipment we will have the 19x8.5 non-staggered set coming in as well as the 19x8.5 restock. Offset on those will be et32-35.

Me!

That TMS car doesn't ride on staggered. It runs on 19x8.5 all around, just like the set that GT Werks is selling.

Except that the TMS car uses REAL BBS LMs (24 lbs. each).

Lugnut2683
09-20-2006, 09:52 PM
The real LM's are 24 lbs each? I thought they were lighter than that. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that the replicas are 28 lbs each.

So there is a 16 lb difference between a set of real LM's and a set of replicas. These replicas cost about $1050, and the real deal costs around $4500. So for nearly $3500 extra, you are getting a weight savings of 16 lbs. That's $225 per pound! :eeps:

I think I'll just lose weight or ditch my spare tire, and be happy with my replicas. :D

Presns323i
09-20-2006, 10:20 PM
well... thats not really techniclly true...
the weight of the wheels is different than the weight on the body... because the wheels have to spin.... and the weight difference is multiplied when the wheels spin.

the weight of the wheels is different than the weight on the body... because the wheels have to spin.... and the weight difference is multiplied when the wheels spin.

Technically this isn't true either. At rest mass is = to rotational mass, and the "weight" does not change, because weight refers to the force of gravity on an object. It requires more force to rotate a wheel, because the entire wheel must be moved a direction in space, and it must also be angularly rotated. But if you want to be technical, the weight does not change. :craig:

haha, unfortunately they don't come in 18x7.5 for the 4H specs. Only the 17x7 has the 4Hx100 spec from the factory.

we will have the pictures of the 18x8.5 up tonight in new threads along with some compliation of pictures of them on the cars.

I plan on making them in 17x8 4x100 for the mini cooper offset, but will need confirmation on what offset is recommanded and need feedbacks from the mini crowd however.

7.5" width on a MINI is much safer than 8". And why 17" instead of 18"? BBS LM's don't look good in 17"! :(

I agree about them being in 7.5, but they definately look good in 17", small cars look like theyre on rollerskates with bigger wheels.

I find it very unprofessional that photos of my car were used on your website without my permission/consent. I wouldn't have minded if I was at least TOLD that my photos were being used. GT Werks has told me that when "they have time" to update the site, the photos will be removed. However, I noticed that the pricing information for the LM replicas has been updated, yet the photos have yet to be taken down.

It's unfortunate that a simple situation like this had to be made public, but because an effort to rectify the situation has not been made, I felt that this step was necessary.

they pricing have not been updated. the pricing is listed in our signature, but not the ones on the website. Those were used for the group-buy. Like I mentioned to you previously. I apologize for using the pictures without notice. We have not been able to update the site since May otherwise our new contact information would've been up on the site already.
