I bought the snap in ones from Bimmian. They look awesome! Just a side note, BE VERY CAREFUL when removing the plugs on the back of the cluster and take your time.

We have not heard of this problem, but no there isn't and shouldn't be any problems installing this and causing problems with the speedos... speedometer that is.
We also have the gauge rings available where you can apply an adhesive yourself. Those rings are $20.

Hi Sosatyme,
It is not difficult at all especially being snap-in and not having to apply any adhesives whatsoever. Shouldn't take more than 30mins even for a first timer. Having the proper tools which isn't many, makes the job super easy.
DIY instructions are also provided with the product as well as online at www.bimmian.com.

The DIY on Bimmian's web site is good. The only problem I encountered was when removing the electrical plug to the cluster, there is a black locking type mechanism used to secure it in, I snapped it:bawling: Just take your time and as far as the snap in rings, they went in no problems. The other thing I did once I had the cluster removed was wear white cotton gloves. No smudges etc.....

They shouldn't be in there for good and they should have enough flex that if you push the rings out they should come out. If anything, pry at the rings and avoid any prying against the panel to play it safe.

Wow... that's pretty nice.
I wish these snap-in rings were available when I had my 325i.
My hands are not too steady because of what I used to do and I guess because of that... I kinda have several epoxy glue parts you can see around the guages. This is so worth the no hassle install... plus, you don't have to go out and buy some epoxy glue.

Chris, my email is vidonediv@netscape.net. Should we start a group buy thread in order to see how strong demand is?
Also what would be the manufacturing method for the CF trim? Ive heard about warping and yellowing issues with some of these kits. Also what would the warranty terms be?

Hi Vids,
I've kept your email for when we find out all details regarding the trim kits.
At present, no details are confirmed or will be released until we've confirmed things on our end.
But I will post up a thread as we are ready.
Now back to gauge rings & cluster trim special.

Well the rings came today, as promised. They look great!
I had previously bought a set from Germany (Ebay) and althought they looked great, these are WAY better. The ones from Germany were just thin rings that had to be glued. Way too easy to mess up.
The ones from Bimmian are thicker, easier to install and look more like stock rings.
Props to Bimmian!!

Chris!!
One of my large rings is missing parts of the paint. Need your help. Heres the story. When I got the rings I opend one of the bags. All was okay with the large ring and the small ring. So I set all of them aside. This Sunday I took the cluster out and started installing them. I installed the set I had opened. Then I opened the other set, and there it was a big ole area of missing paint. I went ahead and installed them since I have to drive on Monday. I even ran down to autozone and got some chrome paint and tested out the color. It doesnt match! So what should I do?:hmm:
1. Send this one back to you and you guys send me a good one?
2. Or give me the color ref number so I can go to a paint place and get a good matching chrome paint.
Let me know. Picture of the ring is attached.

Chris I'm interested in the silver cf bezels and have an M3. The way I read it you need to either trim the cf, which cf splinters are no fun, or take the old trim rings out. Is that hard? If so than I need to buy your snap in trim rings, right. I'd order just as soon as I know that I can do this relatively easy. Thanks

CPchillin,
No need to worry about the splinters. It's all sealed off with polydome. It's not a difficult retrofit... but you're correct in needing to trim the CF for the gauge rings to fit nicely. And yes - the snap in ones. Not the adhesive ones.
Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. :hi:

Ooo.... there is minor retrofitting you have to to. I'm not sure if you read past posts / threads but the cluster trim needs to be installed first with slight trimming for the gauge rings to fit. It's not difficult to do.
In your case, you'll have to remove the gauge rings first, easier if you have the snap in ones, then get the cluster trim on. Hope that helps.

Wow, an expected 30 minute install turned into a 3 hour extravangansa. Don't expect to be able to easliy use both of these together, as you are gonna have to grind the main guage pod down considerably.

You shouldn't have to grind anything down except the carbon cluster trim overlay. You're not supposed to grind down the gauge pod.

Thanks guys! I recommend using either a fine point or a chisel point sharpie. Just use long smooth strokes on each needle and don't press hard.
This and the rings are a great mod that you'll appreciate every time you drive. The best part is that the needles still light up orange at night like they're supposed to. :)

I havnt done anything to my gauge cluster, and all I want to do is put the carbon fibre on it. Does anybody know exactly where to trim or anything? What should I do? I tried to fit it on earlier, but the stock rings were in the way, and I couldnt take them out:(

I'd go with Silver C... but that's just me. I'm not into bling like that.
Let me know when you're headed up my way... I'll have the rings for you.

Chirs,
I'm a bit late it appears according to the date on this post. However, do you have in stock any of the Silver snap in gauge rings sets? I have a 2000. 328i w/sport package that I think it would awesome with. I also have a 2000, E39, w/sport package that I'm considering putting them in but it has the wood trim so I'm not sure how good it would look. Any thoughts on that?
Thanks, Mike
