We had 50 sets when this was started, now we have 37. However, by the second week of June, there will be about 150 more sets in stock. So I'd say prices will stay the same for a while

Heres a picture some were asking for. This is of the MTC CA's and Bushings:

How do these compare to the PowerFlex bushings that are recommended on this site? Thinking about going for the febi-belsteins...?

How do these compare to the PowerFlex bushings that are recommended on this site? Thinking about going for the febi-belsteins...?

The two are like apples and oranges, they are both fruit however, the Powerflex poly-urethane is mainly for race purposes, and the rubber compound bushings are for the daily driver. Rubber has a better ability to absorb more of the shocks that go through your suspension, poly-urethane is a lot tougher and thus the shocks go straight to your cars chassis and subframes. The major car manufacturers supply the cars with rubber bushings to give a more comfortable ride. I personally drive an E46 M3, and during my replacement I went through the same choice, I chose the rubber simply because I never track my car. That was my choice, however the choice is up to you

In summary:

Poly-Urethane - Racing/Track cars
Rubber - Daily Driver Comfortable ride

Febi-Bilstein makes an excellent bushing, a great choice IMO.

Thank you for being so informative!

I'm never going to track my car, and ride comfortability is important, so I'll definately go with the rubbers.

Are the Febi-Bilsteins rubber?

If so, looks like I'll have to scrounge up even more $$ to buy those along with the control arms!

I have a 99 328i and I dont know if I have 60mm or 66mm, if I order the 66 bushings with retainers in addition do I need to worry about it? If I go with rubber busings (as opposed to poky urerthane) are they going to last the typical OEM lifespan?

In terms of quality, these three are exactly the same IMHO, I recently changed out the bushings on my M3 with the new MTC styled ones and I noticed a smoother ride compared to the stock Lemforder ones.. however, its up to you as the buyer to choose if you would like to go OEM or Aftermarket. Either is a great choice

Sam,

As I let you know via the PM, everything went great. It took me about 2 hr 45 mins with 2 people total. I had access to a wide array of tools, but it did take me close to an hour just to do the inner ball joint due to the fact I did not have the right tools to take it off quickly.

So far everything is doing well, and installation was fairly simple.

Thanks,
Ray

You should just go ahead and purchase 2 front control arms. If you car was like mine you had a worn or really loose ball joint or joints. My right front control arm had a really bad ball joint and I had severe wear on both the inner 1 inch of my tires due to it. Also make sure you check your tire pressure every month.

From what everyone has been saying your stock control arms last around 60K miles give or take.

I have my car up on the lift and was looking at the control arm ball joints. I have a good size pickle fork. After I get the bolts off of the top side above the ball joint and outer ball joint, I suppose I stick the pickle fork into the area where the rubber sleave is and whale on it with the sledge?? I was thinking about using PB rust breaker fluid on the joints to get them loosened up. What do you think?? Also, how did you get access to the upper bolt above the ball joint on the drivers side?? It looks like a mofo to get a wrench on.... THX.

Yeah just stick the pickle fork to the rubber and hit it with a 8lb hammer a few times just put alil muscle to it and it will pop out dont swing to hard or you might hit your fender.

Yeah mines 6 years old as well man, i just got mines done because the dealership said i need to change it they charged me around $1200 for installing 1 bushing and 1 control arm but i didn't feel like paying that much. If you have the right tools it shouldn't take nomore then 3 hrs. man. The symtoms of why i replace them is squeaky noises when i turn, the steering wheel shakes when i began to stop at a sudden stop.

Generally, you can feel a looseness or wobble in the wheels that feels similar to an unbalanced wheel. Best way to know for sure is to get a mechanic you trust to check em out regularly. I didn't even know mine was going until the mechanic told me since I felt nothing at all, but now I'm feeling that wobble in the front end since its obviously getting worse.

For the guys who have taken on this project themselves:

I have recently purchaced a set of arms/joints/bushings for my car which is also 6 years old. Can someone advise the pitfalls that can be encountered? I have done a bit of research on the topic of replacing control arms and I've heard something about xenon lights and removing the height sensor. Is there anything important that can be damaged when replacing the arms that should be removed, disconnected, avoided when taking on this project?

I've got a pickle fork and 8lb hammer ready to go, just want to make sure i don't damage anything before I start swinging:)

One more question, is an alignment needed IMMEDIATALLY after the install, or can the car be driven?

Thanks in advance!

Yeah it seems that I am on the fiberdesign side of things again. I swear that every new sponsor they get on this board turns out to be a get rich fast company who sends out crap then after a few months poof gone with the money right before everyones **** starts to break. This is not directed to all sponsors for hell we need some kind of protection from these guys it seems that more members get taken on here from this crap then any other forum I am a part of. Buy form a sponsor it is a safe bet my ass. Give money to the website and we will make you a sponsor so you can rip people off and then bounce and we will say we didn't know. maybe we could check out some background on the companies before we invite them in to f everyone over. BBB has a website you can use maybe get companies with a real shop that sells stuff from a actual location instead of these eBay store fronts out of someones garage. Yes, I am pissed off cause this crap keeps happening on a regular basis. Fiberdesign is the best reference to this. anyone heard from the lately, or had them volunteer to give the money back hmmm let me think NOPE. I wish these companies were in the southeast instead of Cali. be much easier to get my money back. FCUK

Anybody hear anything about e-autobahn?

My new MTC control arm bushings (driver side) completely blew out in <500 miles. The garage I went to was surprised how long I drove on them without getting it replaced. I told them it was supposed to be BRAND NEW.

I replaced them with powerflex bushings. No problems there anymore.

I've been noticing a clunking in the front when I make turns and brake sometimes. I thought it was my endlinks so I just changed those out today. Turns out those weren't the problem and it is the MTC CONTROL ARM ball-joint that went out. These have around 2000-3000 miles on them. Needless to say, I need to replace these.

E-Autobahn said they have a ONE YEAR warranty on their parts in this thread. Where are they now? Will the moderators give us any of their contact info? :thumbdwn:

I can second that both of my MTC bushings went bad and I was actually given a replacement but it went bad. All 3 went bad in the first 2 months. So far the control arms are ok, but I also replaced my bushings with Powerflex bushings.

I really hope that the MTC control arms don't fail. I've already spent enough time and money on the failed MTC bushings.

All I had was the phone number and email. The only good thing about this was I put on the PowerFlex Bushings. If my control arms fail, I'm going to be VERY UPSET!

He has had no activity since 8-27-06 on this website. I don't think that's good info. From when I spoke with him, he was nothing more than a college student. The best bet might be to speak directly with MTC or find out who Sameer's supplier was. There have been other threads which address a "bad" batch of MTC bushings. I did not come across one addressing the control arms, but I am sure that could be a possibility also. I wonder if bad bushings could cause premature failure in a perfectly fine control arm?

Good luck, and keep us posted if you are able to come to a reconcilable resolution.
