This is my custom NAV install (using LAFENGAS' carbon fiber bracket with an Alipe touchscreen).
I decided that I don't like how the black paint came out, and bought some black vinyl... I'd like to wrap the faceplate in black vinyl, but dont know what i should use to attach in...
Thanks!

Do you just not want it painted in general? Or just the paint matching the factory peices? If the paint why not go with some SEM textured paint that should make it look more stock.

Will it fit if you wrap it in vinyl? Might have to sand down the edged.
Either way, use gorilla glue or some type of spreadable adhesive. Heat the vinyl, stretch and wrap the piece. Use a roller and heat gun to adhere the vinyl to the surface.
Looks like a textured paint would be easier.
OT, but tell me more about that speak button!

I may have to sand the CF bracket to get it to fit... The vinyl matches mutch better than the paint, plus you dont see the imperfections in the sanding, etc, so I think I'mm happy with it...
I'll post more when I get it fixed...
Oh, the speak button is for the Alpine NAV system...

Sorry i didn't respond to your PM...i was heading out the door at the time.
My recommendation would be to wrap it without the screen in place. Uses some 3M Spray adhesive and adhere the vinyl and cut the hole for the screen last. To get a nice edge, cut an "X" where the screen hole is extending the "X" cut from corner to corner. Spray the vinyl again from the backside, focusing on getting the spray glue near the edge of the screen hole. Wrap this around to the backside so the vinyl covers/adheres to the edge cut for the screen.
Cut all the extra from the backside so you can get the screen mounted as flush as possible. This way, you can get a nice clean edge and don't have to worry about the vinyl peeling away after abuse from usage or just ware and tear.
The hole in your console is flexible enough that you shouldn't have a problem fitting it back in place with the extra thickness of the vinyl. I wouldn't advise sanding down the CF, because its already thin, and if you sand through it.... it will only make matters worse. It fits perfect now, it'll just fit a bit tighter after.
Keep us updated!

I've always found the spray adhesive to not work well with the vinyl, even the 90 tack, over the long haul. Eventually it starts peeling off...or maybe I just suck at upholstering.

hmm...that's odd.
It's important to spray both surfaces that are being bonded together. So... spray the faceplate and spray the backside of the vinyl.
Give it a couple minutes to tack up, or blow on it a few moments to acclerate the process. Then stick them together. Should get a decent bond this way.
If you stick the two pieces together too quickly, the adhesive won't work properly and you can peel them apart, leaving all the adheshive on one workpiece, while the other has all the adhesive removed from it.

OK update... Initially I had removed the screen from the back and tried to wrap the vinyl and then squueze the screen into the bracket... Bad idea.. the extra thickness of the vinyl wouldnt allow the screen to snap in... Oops.. I pushed too hard, and cracked the screen.. Fudge.
I just ordered another ALpine TME-770 (thank god its being repalced with the 770s, I bought it on clearance for $350--from $700)... That will be in Wednesday and I'll continuie on the project again then... Oh, I think I'm just going to use the mounting kit for the headrest to fit the screen... it will be much easier I think.. Oh, I had to order a new DSC button, because I ruined that while sanding off the bondo.. Ugh...

Here's the glue you want to use:

You may want to see if they have smaller quantities available. To apply the glue, make sure both surfaces are clean, then, using a paint brush, apply a thin layer of adhesive to both surfaces.
Heat the vinyl evenly with your hairdryer or heat gun, and work from the inside to the outside. You'll have about 5-10 minutes of work time, and believe me, this vinyl will NOT come loose....

Usually, I have a problem around tight bends.
