How accurate is it?
The map GPS engine is based on the Iguidance/Routis. Therefore, direction, accuracy, and voice prompt is very accurate.
This GPS engine has automatic re-routing if you make the wrong turn.

Hi Tut,
We have dashmounts available - same mounts used for the cel phone holders or Mp3s.

Dumb question: why the huge discount? Is this a clearance, system is about to be end-of-life, or what? Not that I'm complaining, but large discounts make me suspicious. :D Musta smoked too much weed in my youth, since I'm so paranoid. :)

You probably are high Bart. Nothing wrong with the system, or anything like that. But since joining the Bimmian team as Operations Manager, I'm working on product specials, promos that have yet to be pushed hard out into the market.
You know my rep on E46toronto.ca - christyles... no foolin' around.

Umm, no I'm not, as that was a JOKE. Being a member of the R.C.M.P. kinda inhibits drug consumption. It just sounds too good to be true. And if something seems too good to be true, there's always a catch.

Hey Bart, when I have failed to deliver for E46toronto.ca ?
Shouldn't you be feeding your horses or something...
I think you need to order the GPS and head down to Toronto and hang out with the guys. :hi:

Nah, I've spent enough this year. I'm not saying you'd let anyone down bro, never meant to imply that. This just sounds too cheap to be any good. I guess I'm warped by modding since us BMW guys have to pay twice as much for stuff. Whenever I see ANYthing cheap, I'm thinking "whats the catch"? I'll pass. Google Maps is the only navi I need for now. :)

No subscription fees or anything like that. Basically, purchasing the GPS kit with the software, will have the mapping on it. If you needed additional softrware for other countries that is also available. They come on SD cards.
The GPS unit is also transferrable from vehicle to vehicle. We have a suction mount option or for E46 dedicated, an E46 dashmount bracket with holder. Also, we have the cigarrette lighter power adaptor or the BMW flashlight power adaptor to power the GPS. If you're looking to transfer from vehicle to vehicle, you'll probably want the suction mount with cigarette lighter kit. See www.bimmian.com/gps for all the options available.
Cheers.

This kit interests me very much at that price. I can see how you want to get this product rolling at a good price since most of us arent familliar with it. What is your return policy (if any) if the product is purchased and we are unhappy with it?
Thanks,

I am very interested and would like to purchase this unit but don't want to stick it on the dash as I think it looks a little out of place. I can't really tell from the pictures but is the unit small enough to fit in a glovebox? If so, I could just keep it there and plug it in when needed for trip.

Hi Mike,
Definetely and not only with this product where there will be a good price. A lot more is coming.
In the event you are unsatisfied with our GPS, the return policy is as follows:
Refund or site credit
10% restocking fee is charged to the customer
Customer pays shipping back the GPS back to Bimmian
The GPS must be in resaleable condition which includes packaging, no scuffs or scratches especially on the screen as it's touch screen, the original screen overlay protector. Basically we need to receive it back as youd have received it brand new.
But at this limited special price and pretty much the same features that is has like other GPS, I doub't any returns.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi,
Yes the unit can fit in the glove box comfortably. The approx dimensions of the unit is 4.5"H x 5"W x 2" depth.
Hope that helps.

In general, we assume changes annually, but not guaranteed to. You wouldn't revise a Perly's because a new neighbourhood was developed. Obviously mapping manufacturers need to have enough developemtn within an area in order to justify a new release. Which is why we various cards for different parts of the US. As development speeds vary from state to state as does here in Canada from province to province.
Because the system is new, we may opt to swap SD cards for updated software, but we may also make it available online for a purcahsed download for our customers. The updates obviously will not be free.
Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks. :hi:

at present time, we do not have a set price yet as the kit is still quite new in terms of promoting it. We've had the product on the site not too long but no promos have come out for it on our end. I now am pushing products out there to the communities and offering the best deal possible that we can.
We monitor the Bimmian.com site very carefully and daily and update by the minute so any products, updates, etc that I receive it goes up almost instantly.

3rd,
I've never tried the Tom Tom, but I've used the Magellan and Garmin in the past. Every product has their goods and some bads... or lacking features.
The reliability I find is equal to other units on the market. Well... at least I don't get lost here in Toronto with the GPS. I can't speak for the other parts of the world. But our customers who have purchased in the past have not yet complained or returned feedback about the mapping. We assume all is good.
Hope that helps. :hi:

i really want this unit...
But, just to double check, I could do the following...
place the unit in my glovebox when not in use, put it on my passenger seat when I need it, type in the place I need to go, and it would say to me "take a right here" "take a left here" "etc".... correct?

Before I got the suction mount, I did the same. Unplug and toss it in the glovebox. If I got lazy, it went under my seat.
With a very subtle British accent, the nice lady will tell you how far your next turn is, (configurable in km or miles) whether to merge, or stay in a particular lane depending what the next turn is. If you miss your turn, it will tell you to try and make a u-turn. Her voice is not annoying either. She speaks a couple different languages. :hi:

Hey Jelo,
THe suction mount will mount to any windshield. I will be at Kennedy Commons this evening for a non-Bimmer meet, just hanging out with some Mitsu guys you can meet there if you want. I have the GPS installed in my car with the suction mount. If you want to pay via CC, it has to be done online. Then I can make the unit available for pick up by you.

i actually purchased this GPS unit way back before I joined e46fanatics. i paid a lil over $500 shipped. it was easy to install and looks clean. i had a harder time replacing headlight bulbs.
i didn't like how most "plug-in" navi's just mount via suction to the windshield. so the dash-kit that came with the unit was the main deciding factor.
you can see how it looks in my car on bimmian's site:
http://www.bimmian.com/gallery/view.htm?vehicle=46&product=GPS
in terms of accuracy, the unit is great. sometimes, when you are stopped at a red light, it'll get confused and think ur on the cross street. but once u start going again, it'll re-adjust quickly.
the start-up time (the time it takes for the unit to acquire a GPS signal from the satellites) is usually longer (up to 3 minutes or so) if you haven't used it in a few days. but otherwise, its about 30 seconds or so....which isnt bad.
navigating thru the menus is pretty easy. everything is clearly explained. the "voice" is useful so you don't have to keep ur eyes glued to the screen. it'll tell u that u need to turn in 2000 feet, then remind u again a lil later. then it'll beep when ur at the turn. if u still miss the turn :thumbdwn: , it'll re-calculate the course automatically.
overall, i'm pleased with this unit. good price. clean install. works like its supposed to.
no problems in the 5 months that i've had it.
my only concern is that my SD card has only the Northeast states and Canada. I was driving from NYC to North carolina and the map ended in lower Maryland.
Chris - if I got a larger SD card, could I load the entire US onto it?
if so, can i get a nice deal on that update? :D
ps - i came across this thread kinda late. maybe the promotion can be extended for anyone that was waiting on a mini-review???
