you must have gotten an aftermarket knob right? May I suggest that you should just keep the knob? I replaced my step knob but I know that I won't get that much for it and I'd rather have my stock parts for when I sell my car. I think you might regret getting rid of it cuz unless you sell your car as is, you will want to have the stock knob to slap back on.

actually I bought a new trim from a guy on teh boards and it came with a bmw auto shifter
