Hi John,

I was just on your website and saw that you sell window regulators. I
have a '99 323i and my front right window creaks really bad when I open
the window, to the point where I don't even bother opening it anymore.

My back right window is now stuck in the down position since last night
when I was closing it and my 155-pound Neapolitan Mastiff decided to
stick his head out the window at the same time. The window stopped going
up when it came in contact with his head. I put it back down but then
when I tried to put it up later it wouldn't go up at all. All I heard
was this awful coffee grinder noise.

Will I need just a regulator for both windows or will I need something
more for the back window?

Thanks for your help,

Kei

Hey Kei,

Well... it definitely sounds like you need to get those two things fixed.

The grinding sound is exactly what a broken regulator sounds like. It happened to my girl friend's car (Audi) only recently. A HORRIBLE sound every time you use the window and at some point it will just get stuck (in the rain) in the fully down position (happened to me and I got soaked trying to fix it for her before giving up!).

If your car is like my gf's car, the grinding noise means the motor is still good.

Hey Guys,

for some reason, e46 fanatics doesn't always automatically email me when someone posts the the thread... I'll have to look into why... I just saw your postings...

We ship these out by FedEx. please let me know if you haven't recieved yours yet!

So if I'm reading this correctly there's only the Genuine (and more expensive :( ) window regulators available for the coupe.

yes... unfortunately, the contract with the OEM plant and BMW has not yet expired for some of the cars, so the OEM can't sell us the part yet until it does for each model's contract. The coupe is still on contract :(...

We have had lots of poeple ask about the coupe and also the X5 and so far, no go for those, but we'll let you know as soon as they open up (hopefully when the E46 M3 stops production we'll be able to get a TON more parts as OEM and really start to win some good business for you guys as the prices come down).

Not sure if its the window regulator or faulty programming...but my window goes up and down normally, but the automatic one touch down feature doesnt work. It will go up with one touch though.....is there anyway to reset the regulators programming.....? Or do I need a new one?

Well... usually if the regulator is failing the window will stop behaving like normal as far as going up and or down at all... and it will start making aweful noises sometimes too...

So if it does everything but one touch down, maybe your switch is broken...

I don't think that it's a part that BMW can reprogram though... you may need either a new window switch/controller or a regulator, but in your case I'm betting on the switch.

If you can get me the part # I can get you a quote on it.

You may also want to call your local BMW dealer and try to diagnose it further before you spend any money or time.

KO, maybe you can tell me if this sounds like the regulator. When I roll my window up or down, I can hear almost like a slight clicking noise/rattle (but more of a clicking noise). Now, it is most apparent, or only apparent when the window is going up or down in about the halfway spot. That's at least when I hear it most. Does that sound like a window regulator to you? It's not major, but it bugs the crap outta me. I can't stand any squeaks, rattles, clicks, etc.

KO, I emailed you guys several days ago regarding the defective regulator you guys sent me. You guys have made me lose a lot of time and My window has now been down for several weeks. (I ordered when my regulator was broken, waited for it, installed it and its STILL BROKEN.) like i said in my email, you sent me a defective one because the plastic gear will not spin fluidly, and the mounting brackets for the window motor are HEAVILY bent. I had to personally BEND them back and FORCE my window regulator into those brackets in order to be bolted down. Those brackets were HALFWAY flat. Hopefully this will be taken care of. My car is going to be at the dealership now because I cannot wait anymore for this damn window. I'd like a refund.

If anyone doesn't want to do this themselves, I've got a friend who's a master tech that will do the regulators for a pretty good price in the North County San Diego area. I think I'm gonna have him do my driver's door, the window's been clicking when I roll it up and down. I think he said like $45 or so to do that. I know it's a hell of a lot cheaper then the dealer.

James,

I am very sorry for the poor service you recieved regarding replacing your regulator.

We had some major changes happen here over the last couple months which really put a bad strain on our service levels.

We've cleaned house, moved to a larger location, and rolled out our OEM and Genuine parts Make and Model search now, and we believe we're fixed enough of the problems to get back to devoting 100% of our attention to our customers.

Please let me know by email at sales@koperformance.com if there's anything else you need me to do regarding your situation.

Your order was the only one of approximately 50 regulators sold in a 2 month span that had any issues, and I am sorry that your's was the annoying and frustrating one that was faulty.

Hey AssasinGT,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to your question. We are having a RECORD month here at KO and it has been a deluge of emails and phone calls.

I think I'm going to have to hire ANOTHER sales rep next month! lol...

in general, the motor usually lasts much longer than the regulator.

As a rule of thumb, if it is grinding, or sticking, it is probably the regulator, and not the motor, but there are exceptions.

To put it in perspective, we sell about 20 regulators for every motor for an E46 window related repair part order.

hope that helps!
