View Full Version : Technik s/c air filter too low to ground?

I was just wondering if anyone had any problems with hydrolock or water issues on their Technik s/c kit.
Since MAF sensor had to be relocated to the lower wheel well. As it sits right now, the air filter is about 5"-6" from the ground and very little room to add a bypass valve or bringing the filter even closer to the ground.
I was thinking of putting a Dinan filter sock over it, any suggestions?:)

if your kit is intercooled then theres no worry. for an intercooled car to get hydrolocked you'd need to pretty much submerge the car in water

If you completely submerge the intake wouldn't it fill the intercooler, and suck it into the engine?

No problems at all and I have driven my car in all weather including heavy downpour. If you are worried, get the 45 degree Samco elbow, it will bring the intake up a few more inches higher than the accordian hose. Or you can cut the hose shorter and hide it behind the reinforcement bar like Solid did on his car.

I worry about it from time to time, but Samir and others on this site have given me plenty of assurances... I still plan on getting the water sock for it one of these days, just 'cause I'm paranoid like that.

I've driven through heavy downpours with no ill effects thus far, but big puddles still scare the crap out of me. :eeps:

Never had any hydrolocking issues with mine. Only thing is a Check Engine light which is probably due to the MAF sensor getting wet, but it went away soon as it dries up.

I live in Seattle where it rains all the time, and i've never had any issues. I've driven is some VERY heavy rain, with cars in front of me kicking up water straight into my bumper. I do have a K&N sock, but it more for dirt than water...

ok guys, need your input.
Was on the freeway tonight during a rainstorm and the car was sputtering and jerking when I was travelling about 65mph. Anyone experienced this before or what can I do about the intake sucking up water, should I be worried?
