Not familiar with this car, so any details will be appreciated. I am thinkin of doing a turbo {if there is} or SC, or a engine swap. If a engine swap, which one?
Stripping starts Monday :mischief:

New M5 engine  if budget is not an option.
Cheapest and most reliable: SC
Innovative with potentially more power but expensive: Turbo
Baller and no cost worries: M5 engine with 7spd SMG
Cheers

Hmmm....Where would I get the SC from? Where would I get the new M5 engine? Will it fit?

People say (I don't exactly know who those people are) that the carrier for our e46 will be able to hold such engines like the old v8 that were in the M5's and 540 engines. For the new M5/6 engine, I don't know for sure if it will fit and where to get one.
For the SC, I think that ASA or AA would be the answer. I am not sure which one offers which, but I am pretty sure that both have them available. The programming will optimize the FI load. ASA is in SoCal, and should be able to do the work for you.
+edit: VF also has a kit I believe

Go with a E39 M5 motor, and supercharger that.

Where would be the best place to purchase one?

or, you could try and find an E90 engine, and turbo it.

there will be no more space for a supercharger after putting the S62 into the E46's engine bay.

TURBO ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL THE WAY!
Call the guy over at ICS Performance, have them take your motor out rebuilt it w/ forged internals: CP Pistons low-compression 8.5:1
and haver them make u a custom trubo kit. U will be one of a kind..

To be honest with you I had the same question but, I came to the conclusion. If your car has high miles then these two will break the engine down faster. And for as much as turbo cost to build up the right way you should just buy a M3 engine a do a swap. I found one with the 6 speed tranny for 6k and that is with the ecu and wires and everything. Think about it..

I'm goin to call around tommorrow for a E36 S52 motor, and turbo+NOS.

Yea, an OBDI E36 motor would be the cheapest and easiest thing to do, and they are turbo friendly.:)

If you are talkiing about e46 328, puttin in an older engine will not be street drivable. It' s just the law.:thumbdwn: I was looking into that too.

After all the new stats on stock internals...no reason to rebuild engines anymore if going for 600whp or less. Stock internals can handle it. Just do 0.140 Cometic MLS head gasket/ARP stud setup to lower compression to 8.9:1CR. Then add GT35R turbo system plus standalone to tune it...go 17psi on 93 octane and up to 30psi on 117 octane. Definitely go to ICS for it though.

Where is ICS located? Do they have a website or anything? How much will it cost?

interesting thread, im looking at something similar to do, my car was in miami, is now on his way to el salvador, my home country, and here, i fould a couple of interesting deals, one is a e46 330 motor, which i could build internaly and then do a c38 rotrex supercharger, or second option is a e39 540 motor, would be interesting to know if someone has done such thing, problem i think i may have would be tuning as my car wont be able to go to AA for tuning...
finaly i was thinking of buying a e46 m3 motor, putting it in there, and then getting a supercharger from AA... i wont need dyno tuning for that:thumbup:
any other suggestions...???

ICS Site (http://icsperformance.com) .....they are in CT. Cost? Not sure since they would have to do a standalone system for the tuning.

Yea, it is a e46 328ci. Why is it not legal? I'm goin to just purchase a e36 m3, and turbo that. Any suggestions?

I think you can't put ANY older engine than the car itself. It has to be the same production year or later motors are allowed.
and Yes, it's just the legal thing.
You won't be able to register or pass the inspection.

Legal smegal. If you turbo any BMW it's not legal anyway. There is no gray area. So might as well change engine if you want or do whatever pleases you. F the po po.

Whats going on sev? I step into Cancun for a week and when I return, you have a new project in mind. If you want to go with big power, I say u purchase a e36 M3 (OBD1, S50) and talk to AA about on of there wonderful kits. There is no resin to pull your s54, not to mention your the first owner of the car . You want a V8 e46? call up Hartage, they do the swaps or even will sell the car with the e39 M/non-M motor........Real power is in FI cars, and not na. As it was said, SC is the a easy way to go and I don't see y not, and turbo is another way but more research is involved which some personally find interesting (cough cough).......and consider this a sign of a project thats coming up :P
