Sooo my Spec Stage 1 was installed last year during my tranny swap(5speed, 330ci). The first clutch they sent me failed after less than 75miles. it was the SAC design. they sent me the "new and improved" non-sac clutch(no charge of course) and it lasted all of 6000miles before it started slipping, and 7000miles before it was completely shot. I didnt mind the clutch, and if you had asked me what i thought of it i would have said it was an excellent clutch(while it was working). Until i picked up my car from TKXperformance today with my new UUC clutch in. Taso(TKX Owner/Tech) told me that it was an amazing clutch and i didnt believe it until i got in and stepped on the clutch and immediately went "wow" it feels like a feather. it's SO light and easy to move next to my old clutch. ive never felt ANY clutch this light in any car(and i valet park cars). it engages right when you start to let off and it grabs hard. surprisingly hard for how light and easy the pedal moves. my old clutch was only stage 1, and was a heavier clutch, this one is good to 530ft/lb. i only have about 50miles on it so far. I'll post more once its broken in, my car feels like a completely different vehicle. overall, i'm EXTREMELY pleased with it, more so than i thought i would be.

ah... i read right over that. since uuc has several stages i thought that was what he was referring to.

I myself prefer a heavier clutch (more effort to make a change = more precise changes...IMO), btu I also thought it was the pressure plate that determined the weight of the clutch pedal.

SPEC clutches are junk from my experience. It let out like it was spring loaded on a catch, and would push your foot back so hard it would pop the clutch every time. In the process it would make the driver look like a first-time fool.
That, and the self-adjusting mechanism broke after about 10k miles so I couldn't fully disengage the clutch. Absolute piece of crap, I would not recommend one to anyone.
I have the UUC OEM M5 / 8lb flywheel kit (which is for sale btw) in my car and it is perfect except for gear chatter at idle with the clutch out. Other than that, perfect.

I believe it is the return spring on the pressure plate that determines the effort needed to push down the clutch. I do agree with you that a heavier clutch is better to modulate; however, too heavy of a clutch like SPEC with its spring loaded pressure plate is just almost undriveable. Also, too light of a clutch actually makes me need more effort to modulate the clutch. :hmm:
 to UUC for design great clutches! :)
