I Just wanted to share the mf joy of boost with fanatics out there. My thread for all the newbish bo0st junkies and soon to be boost junkies.
So finally I've gathered all the main parts. Thanks to Max Nathan and Hans for the overnight parts from Norway, my TX-2 kit is complete with 8.5 psi pulley & IC.
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/blow_.JPG
Even though I didn't purchase the stage 1 kit through the ESS they were very very nice nice to machine some extra parts to upgrade my kit. After machining the parts the shipment came through Fedex Priority Intl. I didn't have to pay anykind of tariff.. or import tax.
Some pixs of the parts recieved today..
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/cool.JPG
I was expecting the smaller looking I/C.
It does make sense I guess when you go with bigger I/C the more boost you have to compensate<?).
Im going to try to cover all the parts recommended for FI'ing an e46 and try to review everything.

So the next component that surely would need upgrading was the clutch.
I searched around and read many reviews on the forums.
I then decided I'd maybe resurface the old dual mass flywheel and upgrade with the UUC organic performance..
Simply ordered it online on UUC, came within a week

So like ever person who owns a supercharged e46, I needed gauges. I liked the one from auto something you know the gauges that go in the compartment under your cd player? But that was like so 2 years ago. I was then thinking pillar, but its kinda too in your face, plus i dont want to get knocked out when the curtain airbag trys to save my life. I really like the gauges Benvo got so I ordered an ePod steering wheel column with two stewart gauges from NA motorsports. One boost and the other a tempurature gauge to read out the whole she-bang. I plan to get an a/f soon but more interested in the HUD device. I was gonna slap all the gauges on the car before even seeing boost but I decided against it.
NA Motorsport sent out the epod kit within 48 hours I think because they're somewhere in city of industry or ontario. Their service was top-notch just wonderful. They helped me with all the parts, types, recommendations and even switched the color after I ordered.I also made sure I grabbed Different LEDs and one that closely match the orange hue.
It also Came with cool stickers I put all over on the DS(nintendo). I can't wait to see it installed on the car. I plan to send some photos to NA after the whole install so i can update their pixs( unless someone already has done it.)

Those gauges on the steering look really good.
If I ever go FI, I would preffer those.
good luck with your project

The other upgrades I had in mind with the SC are the shifter, differential, and some cold plugs. If your like me, you probably didn't purchase a short shifter but got a cheap acs fake knob with " short shift" on it:) My shifter's 3 threads for tightening my knob messed up like 2 years ago. So I have been using paper, clothes, trash, as you can see a ziplock to hold the knob down.
no officer i have no pot in the shifter....
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/cheap.JPG
So there are 2 main supplier of great short shift kits. UUC and Rogue.
Since I got a UUC clutch, I decided to go Rogue for the shifter and tranny mounts. I've had excellent service from ben before for my DMS and I knew that their product was superior to the ones that they sell on fleEbay.
Octane with weighted selector-rod(not in pic)
http://www.mbglaw.com//images/rogue.JPG
btw the selctor rod whick looks heavy as hell, is sooooooo light, I wanna keep it to use as a weapon.
I ordered a set of tranny mounts first, but when I ordered the octane short shift kit, they also (very nice!) sent me an extra set of tranny mounts.
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/trannym.JPG
so since I have an extra, and will prob part with the some other stuff like heatshield after the install. First one to reply gets free tranny mounts for e46 330ci.(im sure it'll probably fit all models.) will ship it out on monday. Please only usa. wo0 wo0

As you can see with boost alot things are gonna need upgrading. For example bigger rims and better tires will help you put the power down to the ground. When switching from my 17"s to the oem 19" m3 rims I noticed i was abit sloww off the line but at higher speeeds I really couldn't tell.
I would of never gone with any size bigger then 18"s. But since its oem forged aluminum, its light, looks awesome, wonderful for handling, I put these on. Thanks Milton E. ! Once he got his BBS R-SR/? He just gave them to me for free. Also the 17s were easy to power out of. The 19 w/ more tread, its abit harder to make it slide hence the traction and huggs in the corner. You really do get alot of feel and confidence with bigger shoes. With boost I'll more than likely be able to overpower corners at higher rpm, depending on if I change my gearing or what not.
lol right before I can start with claiming a half bottle at S for sat. I was stuck on the 2 south with a blown tire. :lmao:
it looks like my rims are messed but its just that tire metal wiring.

I guess time for some performance tires...

So .. with the new ts approaching fast, the reason why I choose a centrifigual supercharger is simple. The ASA kits have been improved and tweaked on dramatically over the years. From simple ASAtronic boxes I've read about to now str8 programming the DMEs. PLus I think THe rotrex or the vortech chargers that are out there seemed abit oldskool. The TS on the other hand seemed like it was gonna cost too much money to maintain. Plus they're only in their beginning stages. Maybe when they have been out for awhile, and people run it trouble free I might consider one day slapping it on. As for turbos..., it happens.
The more reason I looked into a ASA kit is, dyno charts I've seen on this board clearly shows nice progressive power. I was abit worried when Ess said with the TX-2 they burned out on some tires on a bmw Z in second gear. But looking at AAs video of their kit. It seems really nice and progressive aswell. I was worried that with all that power it trys to make the car handle, something in the drivetrain doesn't break off. Can't wait til someone has the production version on their car. I wonder if its gonna be here in the states or over on the other continent.
Car will be going in saturday the 12th to technik for SC install and goodies.
DME will be sent to arizona for 91pump 7k redline.
until my sibling brings back my camera tomorrow for more parts reivews, lets listen to jay and big.

It really makes the car pull when it gets going! I had to take my sister and mother to some cruise departure and on the way the new tire side was really rubbing alot. But once they got off with their bags it was sweet! Gawd with just one rear tire the whole car moves so much better. I really can't wait til I slap the other side on.
suspension bit and maybe PSS9s are going in on the 2nd appointment with technik. may have to get fenders rolled.

The game is called Monkey Island 2 Le'Chucks Revenge. 1 was comical, two was just O.G. comical and with such simple graphics back then. I never kept up with too much but 3 was okay ..or was that 4>?

Nice thread.. looks like you are making some good progress.
BTW, the diff you have used to be mine :). Rest assured that thing has helped me blow M3's out of the water - enjoy it!
I like the fact that you went with the epod like I did... I also didn't feel for the A pillar gagues and I have NAVI so under the radio was out of the question.
That's real cool that ESS helped you out as well. Keep us updated, looking good.

Denso Iridium Spark Plugs came from Sparkplugs.com today. Will post pics of the tiny cute boxes it came in maybe.
Made in Japan it reads.
Colder plugs are not nessesary but highly recommended for force induction. Hell even NA. Pretty much everyone can agree denso IK20 are teh best plugs for our motors( I've had bosch platinum +4 for 50k now and they are nothing short of PERFECT) I was also recommended by Jack at DAI Motorsports(laguna Nigel), that I check for faulty bremi coils, and make sure I don't have any underpulley kit on for the supercharger install. Check v
I have actually done my own plugs before. It was quite easy but it got complicated quickly when I couldn't get the last two in the bay :P In which I had the dealer swap the last two out for free under inspection 2(i think)
But Im going to hold on to these and have a real professional put em in with the kit.

Those were the good ol days .....Apple 2c and all etc etc......wildcards and lots of fun cheating!! Not coordinated enough for the PS and Xbox generation of games:tsk:
I`m guessing that diff is a 3.46 ? Also i`ve been debating whether to change my plugs to Denso.I .......you`re going to bias my decision!!
BTW are you going to use nice blue samco hoses for the S/C? My only criticism of the ESS install was that it didn`t look pretty but i guess coloured hoses are a personal preference thing. Also if i can get a picture of the infintas Z4 ASA install with a beautiful intake shield , i`ll post it for you to see....

the diff is actually a 3.07 max! Its from a mike's zhp.
I really like the 2.91 long gearing in my 5-speed 330ci. I mean the car even with 19s is still quick by my standards. ( I mean it does 80 on the frewway and tops out at 135(limiter)ish. Im not really looking to smoke m3s(yes I am) But get a little more power so I can edge out all the "competition" and soon to be competition. I want to keep my beautiful e46 since getting an m3 would be basically signing my money away for another 4-5 years for basically the same car plus the way 330 were built they were meant to be PERFECT passanger cars unlike the very stiff but doable m3(excuses) I usually don't drive so aggressive anyways cause when I do have passengers, they're kids.
I think the 3.07 will be perfect balance between total cruise and a little more torque.:) Mr. CHuck in my building with a dinan blower on his ten year old 540i did mention some parasitic loss due to the blower strapped on to the drive belt in the low rpm range where his 3.12(from 2.9something) helped him get to the sweet spot faster.. I noted from him that getting a higher diff will compensate for some of this loss and return it with more bite.
As for those iridium max! they wer almost double the price of any other plugs. I did get them before but it kept getting fouled . I think I orederd ik22 back then though.
will look into those samco hoses and yeah post a pic of the z4!

Enjoy your 3.07! I am actually doing the same thing as you right now, getting an ASA TM12 though. Also buying Mike's old intercooler, these parts really move around! I have the 3.46 diff in my car right now I am thinking that it may be too short but we'll see maybe I will be getting another 3.07 or 3.15.

THanks AS007! I hope your project goes well too. Its real nice you and I have a close places to drive to get the primo stuff done///. 3.46 is too aggressive for your future setup though I mean don't you like holding all that power and evening the road out and Powah!-ing thru? If you think you can source out another 3.12 that would really hit the sweet spot. I remembered some one classified selling here near Marina Del Rey for cheap but its probably sold by now. If you like ill give you my old 2.91 when I slap the one you sent!

You`re probably sleeping like a baby now......waking up every 3 hours and crying in anticpation:rofl:
Anyway here are the photos like i promised - really like the fabricated shield behind the ASA S/C which hides all the ugly wires and rubber pipes....
Also have pics of the ASA GMBH testing their TM line of S/Cs.....lower pic shows the blue samco hoses i was talking about.
Anyway, when you do wake up .....good luck and enjoy this day..remember though that even after the install, yoiu have to be gentle for the first 100miles or so( actually, maybe not since the ASA is already broken in):)
Have a good one and don`t forget the pics......

I really had an exciting time at technik! And am really impressed with all the knowledge and work the place has put into working on our cars. It really feels more like a social club then some regular mechanical garage or bodyshop. Watching people stroll in hang out, politic about kits, cars, builds, and just watching mike B lifting and unlifting his own car makes the place feel like e46fanatics come to life. (You know most shop have those insurance things where they keep you out and stuff :P lol)
I knew I was going to forget something and that is.......

Serious! Thanks Russ! Really appreciate your comment since your one of the coolest cats on board. You were totally right when you busted your across the country drive to technik! Its a fabulous shop and zolti is seriously one chill professional dude man. Man I always dreamed of getting worked done here since putting Technik license plates on xbox pgr2 :) .

Technik is definitely an awesome name and they've got a bunch of awesome people working there. The sh!t Zolti and Samir went through to get my kit installed made a loyal customer out of me, saying that they bent over backwards to help isn't saying enough. :yikes:
I've got a feeling early next year I may have to make another trip out to Socal and add some more goodies to my car. http://www.freesmileys.org/emo/transport027.gif (http://www.freesmileys.org)
You know now that you mention Technik and license plate in the same sentence, I think Technik license plate frames would be pretty darn cool.

I had a funny feeling about these plugs! so will ik20 fit NA e46s?(anyone know?) I always get the wrong batch of plugs all the time. Which reminds me I have 6 old fouled Ik-22s in the garage!
Geez I was just thinking about your oil cooler merwin..Maybe I should get one too. Seems like a nice longevity mod since its for the whole oil system and not just for the blower..maybe I can attach one after the install is finished And benvo mentioned 2 hyperboost diverter valves, Im gonna see if I can get my hands on those by weds.

The IK22's will fit the NA BMW but youre gonna need the IK22's when your s!ts done, they are for FI BMW's. The oils system is nice, I'll post pics when I can. You should invest in one. Wait for the Hyperboost Valve, Zolti showed me a new revised version of it that will be coming out soon :mischief:

this is going to be the longest week(edit) evar..
Some simple mods came through the post office today. First 2 different sets of wheel locks from Bimmian and Autozone. I would post the pics but then that would make my wheel lock key obsolete. An Aluminum shift knob from bimmian showed up also. Gawd I guess bimmian has come along way. From all those complaints few years ago to making their own box for the shiftknob.
I myself have had no problems with bimmians interior xenon lights for 3 years now and the aluminum shift knob feels, and looks spectacular. YEs! No more tightening the knob with trash or sandwich bags!!
it really is a much better knob then the fake ACS one. Just holding the knob feels precise and the weight is perfect! Plus it came with all together 4 patterns for 6-speed and five speed in silver and black. I put the black 5-speed as you can see in the pic.
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/shift.jpg
I also sent the ECU via FedEx overnight to Phoneix Arizona. I put a note, plus an extra waybill so they can send it back to me via priority next day only because Todd mentioned by default ESS Performance Arizona sends it back UPS ground.(which will take eons to arrive)
some dark arse photo of the ecu\

^^ Sheff..I think for daily driving you dont need it. I might be going to Buttonwillow twice a year so I just wanted it for precaution. I also talked to the guys there about it and I decided that it wouldnt hurt to have it. Anything to keep our FI engines running nice and cool right? Yep, made the order directly through Mike. I think this might be the first time Zolti installed this version on any car. Whats cool is that the sender is in the engine compartment and not the oil plug under the car

quick update ///
The DME isn't back yet...tracking says ESS signed for it wednesday morning and I did include a slip for them to send on thursday so I can recieve it today but I guess it takes longer to program it. I just hope I put all the info they needed. So i guess this postpones the build to depending on when I get my DME to maybe tuesday or even wednesday. I'll try calling the us office again tomorrow.
Technik hooked it up with some new radiator hoses, new thermostat, Some preventive messures since my old hoses were tore up. Thanks Mike for sourcing out the parts. LoL they mentioned the old hoses came out like strech armstrong. Oil might be getting in the coolant system.hmm
well I was hoping it be done by saturday but still, alots of progress has been made. Coupla dayz wont really faze. why did you go with ESS again? does technic like the ESS st 2
MachRc
08-20-2006, 04:22 PM
I did want to purchase a kit directly from technik but i just couldn't afford it last summer. So I tried saving up but merely came up with about 4-5gs. So i was thinking NA, with headers, ecu but money/performance wise it was better to boost the car.
Thanks to e46classified, I found Max in england selling his tx-1 kit he purchased in january. He has had the kit for about 4 months but decided to trade in his kit and get the new TS-2 from ESS.
I really wanted to get on the list for the TS. But then decided to go centri just because alot of the folk here have had it for years and seemed very reliable.
about 3000 for the stg 1
about 1500 for the stg 2 parts
600 for clutch
350 or so for SSk
100$ for diff
150 each for hyperboost bypass valve( i recall zolti said only 1req. 4 me)
300 on goodies like gauges, epod, etc
400 on 1 tire:hmm:
It made more sense.
plus it still bit below a price of a competetive asa kit with intercooler which is about 6500 and thats without clutch and all the extra goodies.
If I had a chance to grab a ASA from technik at a great price I would of jumped on it.
as for choosing the place to install...
I could of done all of the work at the bodyshop and the mechanical shop next to our buisnesses. Mr. Deter and Luis have saved me thousands on repair, o2 sensors and everything that the dealer would do including turner subframe plate welding. I could of simply asked then to put in my shifter and sc and diff and clutch for well under a thousand bucks.
But I would not sleep right. People who work with everyday general cars are not as skilled as people who work mainly on e46 cars. Especially someone who installs and fine tunes superchargers all day. The first place I naturally asked was DAI motorsports in Laguna Nigel. I highly recommend his shop if your in the area since he is the official distubitor and installer for ESS. After few talks and because of my schedule I decided to go to technik for the install. And since I dont have a technik kit. I just wanted to give them buisness by having them put the rest of the car together aswell. Do I sleep sound..why yes.
As for technik and ESS. I think its all personal preference and based on the makers experience with the ASA brand. Its a wee bit wierd having a competitors kit in another competitors garage, but technik has been more than professional about the taking care of my car. I believe both kits somewhat derive from the same asa infintas kit. Both company "modify/exchange/replace/remove " it to their own liking and tune it according to their specs like for example the tuning might be different since I run a smaller IC core. As for technik liking the ESS kit I think when the final dyno is done it will speak for itself.:P

Zolti made lots of dyno from before and after of pretty much every single component. But I want to get the final final numbers first. I think ESS deserves some more credit since my car was a NA slug with old bits of everything. I will post the final dyno with only the TX-2 charger, colder plugs, stock clutch(it holding very well even at my milage)stock 2.91 - 5 speed , on techniks 18 inch rims off a zhp(regular 91 gas, no tricks no gimmicks). technik totally took care of the coolant everything so after the fuel filter, and colder plugs, we'll see if I get a magical 270whp from 180ish whp. Ill post all the data with you all very soon.

Give a lil TLC to the ride now J :str8pimpi

Zolti put in a new fuel filter to combat the lean codes that pop out. I been reseting it once in the morning at work. Lean bank 1,2. colder plugs, some new coils, the fuel filter. . I drove to cousins , la, drink, home, cel. same code lean bank uno and d0s.
lol what makes it worse it since we were busy with the car I got a quick printout of the last dyno.. so quickest possible way is a picture.
zero to burrito
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/dyno.jpg
the 265 was made under 6k this was when zolti was troubleshooting a mmisfire which was due to bad plugs. zolti didnt push pass 6.2k the graph starts at 1.5k rpm and goes to 7.(will scan and post clearer pics later) The graph on the bottom shows boost, so if I were to go 7k it would definately push 10 pounds. maybe with the bigger pulley I can make it efficient enough to pull out a good number at higher rpm. orrr... get somekind of software adjustment to give a little more gas. I dunno I gonna call ess and ask tomorrow.
Car runs great! I tried to take movie shots while driving. I thought I got some amazing shot me boosting through wilshire at 11pm, but I was trying to capture everything but instead got wack teasers.
I actually BOne'd out and had the camera in my left hand facing out the windshield while trying to shift like crazy son and it didnt get filmed so sorry, maybe tomorrow.

265 was one of the first dynos before new plugs, new coils, new fuel filter with the car running lean. Zolti replaced all of em yesterday but we didnt have time for a dyno. I posted it just to keep you guys updated. The final dyno where I plan to go all the way to 7k will be sat. Technik expected the low numbers since mycompression is weak and need a valve job since its got high milage. But I still cant be unhappy about anything over 260.

im not a genious but I think the af ratio on the dyno chart shows that im abit in a lean condition. This was again prior to the fuel filter being replaced. The new fuel filter was like a clean pipe. I copuld blow in the inlet and it would blow right out... The old one zolti replaced( he showed me this) I tried to blow on it but it wouldn't budge!!!!!!!!!!! Like I had resin clogging the whole thing@! So I think its fixed but who knows only the next dyno will tell I guess. Maybe the clogged fuel filter messed with my fuel pump??

Everything ran PERFECTLY. Even without the maf voltage thing not installed yet
You are aware that ESS MS43 3.0 v.126 software (what you have) should NOT use any kind of MAF signal modifiers and no resistors? If you put them in your car will behave exactly like it does. Target AF ratio should be 12.5:1 - 11.5:1 at full load/high RPMS when everything is correct.
It is also perfectly safe to rev to redline with your current setup, it's what it is designed for:thumbsup:

ooowww thanks AJ!! Ill go in and remove the resistor thats connected to the maf.I had zolti put it on since the tx-1 kit's instruction told me so!!!!!!!!!! Sweet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Asbjorn@ESS
08-24-2006, 06:36 PM
The TX1 kit and manual was for an older software version that ran a small resistor. The newer MS43 and MS45 software's from ESS runs a straight MAF signal.
By running the resistance from the older TX1 kit on your setup you will run AF ~1.5:1 leaner throughout the RPM band than designed and you might get occasional CEL for being lean during cruising. Remove the resistance and rev the dyno to 7K and you will see the power you are aiming for, if not more:thumbsup:

test day um 2nd day and a half....
No lights drove everywhere, damn Im just trying to ignore the calls.. Everything feels so oem. The clutched Sc is a trip. seeing the inner bearing sit idle while the revs build and only at this certain rpm like 3.5kish you here a metallic wisk and then going past 4k under wot a a turbine whine that sounds tight that goes allllllllllll the way to 7.. I really like the longer gearing. So much linear TORQUE! Perfect to over power in lower gears and perfect for coming down a mountain in 3rd. I only went to 140 lol I think if I went to 7k in 4th with 2.91 gearing I would be somewhere near I dunno..fast. I like fast. Ever see those ad sticker ... Friend of Fast.

From your dyno it seems you have 2 problems, nothing you really need to correct right now, as they are not ciritical, but they should be addressed in the future when funds allow.
1. You seem to have way to much back pressure, and with your high mileage this is a sign your catalytic converters are clogged. I strongly recommend replacing them with new OEM ones, or a set of aftermarket headers. Your power should be close to 300rwhp with this setup when flow is OK and boost should come down to 8.0PSI.
2. After 6K it is programmed to continue down to under 12:1 AF ratio at redline, It still stays belows 13 so you are fine anyways, but I think your fuel pressure is falling off in the top end as it can't keep up the flow. A new fuel pump is required if the fuel pressure is not around 60PSI at redline.
Are you sure your installer installed the vacuum/pressure compensation hose for the FPR directly to the intake manifold vacuum source as instructed? If they forgot then this can also explain a lower fuel pressure.
If #2 is OK, then I suggest a new MAF sensor.
Also, why are you using smoothing 4 when 5 is the normal setting on all Technik dynos?

so.. I guess thats that.
car runs beautifully, sounds like the missile, goes like stink.
With more funds, I will add headers, cams, valve job, fuel pump, cats, and maybe a new maf sensor (whew!) the diff will go in but for now im just enjoying the ride. My stock clutch is holding up perfectly so I plan to keep the UUC in the garage until I get some slippage.
THe fallbacks:
The stewart warner gauges are going to be dropped and defis are going in. The stewart warners mechanical gauge doesnt give me room in the epod to attach the wiring without it sticking out too much so I advise any1 to get the epod and source out some defis.
hmm thats about it..
and with a heavy right foot im sure you'll be getting 15-18mpg
I think I've spent about 150 dollars in gas in the last 4 days.

Some updates!!
Gauges are in ..
I always thought oil temp was as the same as the motortemp gauge on the cluster. Oil remains around 200 to 225 degree. Zolti let me know anything over 270 is harsh. And that if I lose oil = more heat.
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/defi.jpg
On the boost gauge,
every time I floor it its reads 4psi and when it goes over 5k or so I see 6 then seven and defi reads max boost at 8.5psi. I tried to keep up with a a 600hp supra at the torrance meet yesterday and got smoked, but I maxed my car and the defi recorded it :D
Zolti busted his arse and hooked up the diff , tranny mounts, and rogue shifter.
The shifter is perfect clickity clock. THe best closest feeling is a m3 shifter. My stock tranny mounts were totally destroyed. One was rip in half the other was soon-to-be dead. (left it at technik will post pics later) Im glad I sent out all those tranny mounts out to you guys!! I hope you guys have it all installed. Back to the shifter, Its shorter throw are precise and and goes in perfect. Not so damn short of a throw like a sti. But right just perfect so you throw it slides in click and you let go. The mounts and differential made a great difference. It feels so together.
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/3.07.jpg
The differential:
So I put it on, Its perfect. It seems like the rear is closer to me now. I was getting abit worried on the drive home since I love being in fourth gear right below the powerband on the freeway where the car drives quite with no strain. But I can still kinda cruise in fourth on the freeway without having to shift to fifth. It feels as if though the 2.93(7)(1) whatever the old diff was was making the rear feel far back behind me. Now its much tighter and still room to spring around in one gear.
once I get enough of fast in my car Im come home and cant get enough of fast.

I'll be going with technik headers and cams. As for an exhaust i already have a rogue engineering DMS. I just can't decide whether If I want to do cams first or headers first. But definately going to get the headers on and connect it to the DMS. My main concern is the sound level, and CEL light the car might throw because of the cats. Im gonna look into it more and figure things out.

Wow I haven't update this thread in awhile...!!!!!!!!
So........
I was cooling myself with one of those dyno fan, and figure I come up with some review on my new latest Technik Headers, gen 3..
I put on my technik headers about 2 weeks ago...
since the headers elimate the cataytic converter and bolt directly onto the stock piping.. I decided to weld the race cats later..( i just passed smog right beofre too :P)
The stock o2 sensors when in correctly(alot of people place it back wrong causing checklights) I dunno if zolti did some magic or the AWESOME ESS software becasue I have no CEL.
The stock pipes with the Rogue DMS has been just pure melody love.. I love the deep growl when the ignition comes on.. love the deep roar when the foot goes down...I was expecting a revolution!!!
THe install took zolti few hours, replacing engine mount and replacing some head gasket seals for the oil eating problem I had..
btw the new gasket totally solved my weekly oil adding routine..
I waited a whole 2 weeks to check and it is still at the same level on the dipstick.
anyyy wayz...
I was expecting the best sounding thing in the universe... I wanted to believe!!!!!!!
I knew with no cats and just the rogue DMS that it was going to be loud..
It was LOOUUD..
I went home irritated.......
I couldnt even hear the compressor or the by pass valve go PPPPSSSSSSsssssssst!!!!
anything under 2800rpm was a familiar DMS growl.......
anything past 3800rpm/or a heavy foot produced a schreakking!
BBBBBBBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK KKKKKKKKKKKKKK
I could not hear myslef think....
The cars cool vacuum noises were drowned by the BBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!
You can hear me coming 5 miles away..
Its turning into a nice color...
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/headers.jpg
It was wayyyyyyyyy to obnoxious..
super duper obnoxious, it was ridiculous driving fast...
and no more blow off valve noises..
I was distressed.. I felt I spent the money on something really retarded...
finally
after a few calls to local shops I found "monkey shop( I swear)"
on virgil..
after explaing with hand signs and sign languages to pedro the monkey shop ,muffler guy
for 120 bux I got two resonator in place where the stock 2nd resonator used to be...
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/resonator.jpg
and right after I drove off...
it elimated the needless endless super rasp.
and
after many days of exploring the sound and feel and overall sensation of having better plumbing.. up front..
I have to say it more glorious then evar even better then just the Rogue..
the glass packs quieted down the start up..
and everything below 3500 sounds just like the rogue dms..
but once past the 4000 threshold.. if you let off the gas and cruise.. you get a nice.. really nice gut sound ever.. like a g35/m3 raspyish sound thats produced up front instead of the loud grrowl/Buurrrrr you get from just the exhaust and intake..
=-=-=-=its intoxicating=-=-=-.
Ill get some nice videos tomorrow when I go up the crest with a fellow 335i coupe... get some mean video for you guys from the mountains of Cali!!!!!!!!!
if I pound on the throttle.. it SCREAMS!!!!!!!! but I can still hear my compressor!!!!!!! its so crazy guys.. and the force..!!!!!!!!
you can feel it work really well under light throttle.. mid range is AWESOME..
Im always half way throttle... fourth gear 4000...let off a bit and it quiets down..
then I punch it..
you can feel the punch with the headers..
did I mention the punching sound...
sigh.. I cant help guzzling gas punching the sound barrier on the freeways...
gas mile had gone down a bit.. the first two days was like 24- 23mpg to 18-17
now Ive mellowed out abit and the pipes are settling in.. its sounds glorious...
Ill update it with nice long videos for everyone..

I should of taken this one shot from your car man!..
when you peep in the hood vents and catch a glimpse of the machined technik sign on the blower.. its pretty gawd darn pimpin it.
It must be very difficult not to have it in your garage or on the road..
especially when another e46er drives by and doesnt "feel" the presence of teh darknessness under your hood!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:P

Why are those Defi gauges turned like that in the night shots? Looks goofy....
330i ZHP
07-16-2007, 03:35 PM
why do you have them turned like that? Is it like a drag racer that turns his tach to the LEFT (NOT RIGHT) so that the SHIFT RPM is at the top?
MachRc
07-16-2007, 04:34 PM
The reason I choose to turn the dial was because I wanted to see the needles more clearly. Because the pulley only allows for 8.5 - 9 psi
Its hard to see the needle( the boost gauge) in action over the steering wheel
I wanted the temp gauge to kinda stay in the middle like the regular temp gauge, not 1/3 where its usually at..if the needle was pointing 6 'o clock
I didnt do it so I can be racer cool..
its just easier to see the boost gauge working.. look at the video above I think its show the boost gague in action..
if it was turned quarter to the left like it should be, it would look like its measuring only 1/3 of the scale..
goofy or not its just personal prefrence.:craig:
btw the night gauge picture above is when you press the max button to see the maximum state the needle achieved..I took the pix since it light up blue.. the needle are rarely at those points..

do you have more pics of your engine bay and the headers?
yo chuzo I regrettably forgot my camera today.. but I will post some messy pics of the headers and engine bay for you.
Im putting in a new clutch tomorrow so, once its on the lift Ill grab some shots.
Im prety sure technik expected the CEL to rear its ugly head..
I just dont know wether zolti did the stepped fouler(o2) or ESS software is taking care of it..
but NO check engione light with headers!!
Im positive I drove more then coupla open closed loops so I think im go0d!

drank 3 vodka something 2 beers and alot of dank.. and Iwas still ready to party..

but on a good note.
it ended with a bunch of
elephants..
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/elephant.jpg
Saturday, I put in my new UUC sport organic clutch!
with 140 thousand on the odometer
this is what the stock clutch looked like when we pulled it out.
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/clutchd.jpg
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/clutchd1.jpg
The first thing I noticed when the clutch was going out was even with the clutch engaged, I could not take it ouf of 1st gear or any gear when the car was under throttle. I had to manipulate the gas pedal and time it correctly to take the stick out of gear and gas/clutch the stick in( not fun)
Definetley the new UUC clutch is holding better, and it sprints me out the line much quicker then the oem clutch. Im still below the initial 500 miles enage the clutch slow so you wont glaze it period, but it feels dam good.
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/muff.jpg
The only thing I notice is a slight vibration if I let of the clutch really slow in traffic.. Im hoping fluid and breaking in time should solve this minute issue ..
but every where else, its let go and Zam.
did I ever mention the monkey shop..on virgil>?

some more technik header shots :P

I was hoping you can fit one of these in your car.

serious serious max..
to me these are like the most beautiful gas extracting pipes ever. Everytime I look at them its like race car headers. The deep gut howl when you modualtae the pedal. Its so nice.
I want you to know that headers are a BIG change. You'll appreciate the middrange torque flow out and at it build it gets the going really going.
but
without planning the pipes throughly, you can end up with one abnoxious system that it will drive you and everyone in the car insane
and it will make you HATE and curse that you ever even thought about headers.
anyways ill put those WOT videos up tomorrow!!!

I havent update this old thread and had nothing but LOVE for the ESS ASA kit all these years. Not one problem from the kit no bad hoses or lose connection, Just as expected from master installer zolti himself..the ESS software and hardware from Asjborn and hans from ESS was nothing but perfect and was everything to boast about.. including no check engine lights of sort, and 50k on the asa kit with upgraded10 psi pulley for the slightly dropped psi( due to the technik headers freeing up the back), I saw more useful 4-5 psi at anythime the pedal was to the metal with the smaller pulley.. the compressor spin and air pieceing jet sound came at 1200k instead of the 8 psis 1900k..so with the smaller pulley, the piercing whine was heard driving slow through the parking lot. FI music..SOmething you have to experience in your time on e46. I probably never fully exploited the 10psi @ 7k rpm, but it was always there and with UUCs segmented clutch on a steel medium weight flywheel, It was nothing but bliss on the open road.
big silencers to tone down the honed rocket sound coming out the roguew DMS..the long sleepy 5 foward speed with easy long gearing with plenty of power up at top.
It was the sickest setup(for me) to rock. The sophisticated and discontinued ESS asa kit on the 3.0 was to me like a limited version and gave me enough power and room to grow to dust most new cars in the same luxury sports segement easy.
one of the few last pictures I took of the car..
http://mbglaw.com/images/bfest/bfest1.jpg
http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=679552
The fire attack did more damage to my mind than the car. I know the man makes the car and not the car making the man, but it hurt losing the pride and love I have in my first bmw. That car taught me alot of respect and road mannerism and was always fun and growing up breaking the sterotypical young bmw owner stigma it put on me from the first day I drove it off the lot.
I picked up a 2003 e46 m3 with 22k miles on the odometer. It was the same car that was sitting at technik with the alacantra headerliner/roof and every bit of cf on every piece imaginable. When I used to hang around shop like a trunk monkey feeding in knowledge about top billing modding and e46 tuner lifestyle and drooling on sick member's cars, The day chris' white HPF car was on a lift there and due to tuning or not able to tune or something (not my buisness really) but that day zolti was CAD(computer aided design) designing the same intake manifold that sits inside my car parked outside. I remember he got the finalized manifold about a week later. Its prob the same one in my car since it was their(technik's) first m3 kit utilizing an ASA blower wayyy before the ESS cfr kit. I was no where near that level of ballin and that car turned out to be a great show car And the same car that won best modded of the show in 2008 bimmerfest.
It belonged to a member fucy,
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/hijeff.jpg
many of you guys prob know him and have purchased a "fucy" kit form him at one time. Having scoured the interweb for inspiration, all I ended up finding is this car that I own with every dope kit and bits and all the expensive ones..so its hard to out do what it out did.
http://www.mbglaw.com/images/grape.jpg
I dont mind that the car didnt come with all the carbon fiber outsides..the interior is still intact and most importantly the S1 #1 technik blower at 6psi sits under the hood. I m quite grateful that I got a clean slate to begin with..and still amazed at the work that fucy put into his car and all the history behind the ride. I've started a new chapter in this build and Im excited to look foward and start my own way of personalizing this car. If youve read this tread, I hope you know that I havent given up on the FI dream and that once you start its something you cant just stop. I hope every1 a great weekend july 4th weekend, and dont be afraid to jump into the the FI pool..youll regret you didnt get wet faster.
I havent figured out how to go forth with jim conforti tuned kit but this is where I stand now..and may stay for awhile..

:hi::hi::hi:yo MAX!
well there isnt any real info on the technik online and im planning to see if there are proper upgrades avail through autotalent. Im quite happy with the setup..other than a greater need to catch the rpm dropping in 1st gear like for example when you accelerate to a stop light and let off the gas and "winddown" in first gear and release the clutch at the same time there is a great chance of stall..not too tricky but a blip here in there when those situations call for well makes up for the lightweight clutch and boost..
i do want to keep this kit on and fully enjoy it before doing anything to it..tempted for a smaller pulley but you know how it goes with the tm numbers.
I dont know if I pln to get another type of blower.. I really dont know that far ahead but what I do know is
I was faster than you for like 12 days!

But I think the conforti tuning and falling under the pre-2003 helped me with the 8k rpm dyno. No limiters. The spark/rpm was picked up using the dme box and boosst from the tee-d section in the engine compartment driver firewall.
