For you FI junkies...especially the S/C junkiesin CA...does any of the kits out on the market right now cause any emissions problems. As some of you know, emissions in CA are among the strickest in the country, so I wanna know if I were to say intall a level 2 AA S/C (just an example), would there be problems passing smog. Also, has any of you been pulled over by a CHP with FI?

The reason I ask is I'm looking to add some extra kick to my ride, but I wanna address some concerns before I make that investment. Thanks to those who can shed some light.

I don't believe there are any kits for the e46 that are currently CARB certified. I believe you need a CARB exemption sticker to pass emissions in CA. ESS is working to get their new TS certified and I believe one (or more) of the CF kits are working toward CARB approval. You'll just need to be patient until certified kits are made available (unless you want to uninstall & reinstall to pass emissions or risk being pulled over).

I know Technik Engineering (the sponsor of this forum) was working on getting their kit CARB certified, they're probably pretty close by now.

Thanks for the input TxZHP04, that's what i was thinking. so all the hardcore ppl like TazaM3 (huge fan of that car) are risking it?? frigging sucks to get pulled over after putting all that money and enegery into the car. I guess I really should wait then.

VF-Engineering has already submitted their paper work for CARB certification for their supercharger kits. They're hoping to get approval end of this year or early 2007.

Thanks for the input fellas. Since it seems few if any of the aftermarket companies seem to make 'street-legal' FI systems, does anyone know about Dinan? I've heard their products are warrantied by the dealers. Does that mean it's 'street-legal' and emissions 'friendly'?

I really would like to add more power to my car, but it also has to maintain everyday drivability. If FI isn't the way, then my next choice would be to build an NA engine

Dinan (as far as i know) products are all carb certified which means you wont have any problems with smog our here.

The E46 M3 kit is not CARB cert. It is 49 state emissions legal and the only state that it isnt is yup.. CA!

The other SC kits for the E36 and E39 are 50 state legal.

How about E46 330?

Dinan doesn't have an E46 330 SC kit.

Dinan products are not warrantied by the dealers, per se. I would suggest you read the fine print on your own and not take anyone's word on this; its your ride not theirs.

It is my understanding that Dinan matches the factory warranty on whatever they install, and at certain Dinan certified facilities, techs will perform warranty work on both stock and Dinan parts. They will do the legwork to cover their and the factory warranty. But this is not to say that you can't get caught in the middle of "he said, she said". I have seen it happen personally.

Just trying to keep the thread as accurate as possible, not hating on Dinan.

Powder, tks for the tip. I've heard that too about Dinan.

As for the hardcore FI guys, especially the ones who have boosted their daily drivers, isn't it risky to get pulled over? or when smog check is due? if you guys know a way around it, please shed some light. Tks again for all the feedback, I appreciate it much.

cops don't usually ask to open your hood if you drive a BMW....maybe Hondas, but not BMWs.

smog checkers can be bribed :shhh:
