Well since my motoswap was done and the other little performance goodies I ve been having a problem. Well the first 6 months it was great (drove the car in the winter) once summer hit, I started having issues with the drivetrain. I started feeling vibration in first gear and then second gear once I give it full throttle and DSC would kick in. I realised my guibo was just shot and torn everywhere. So i replaced that. 2 months later I had similiar vibration but mostly in second gear only and its happening towards the rear/middle area of the car. Jacked up the car and felt everywhere and untill I felt my driveshaft was just bouncing everywhere and the hanger in the middle was not together anymore and just torn in half as well. so I replaced that it helped a lot. Then last night it did it again so I haven't had time to trobuleshoot anything really but I was wondering if anyone has similair problems.

The car has 85k miles but the new motor only about 14k.

Could it be a problem that I m running no LSD, and i m running 275 in the back? 275 being too wide and I launch my car and shift very very hard. I took my CDV out and ever since when I shift hard you can hear the clutch engaging or gripping again.

Check your diff, mine went bad from doing hard launches.

what are signs of bad diff?
and
how can one check the differential?

...or somting around the diff...cough....subframe...cough

hard launches = subframe damage...maybe

it aint subframe damage because I already checked that w hile ago and it wasn't. I have an 02 and it was really rare on 02s to get subframe damage.

plus mine is a very very late built o2

When you replaced the centerline bearing/bushing, did you put any pressure on it? I think its recommended to put a little pressure forward on it, and then tighten the nuts...

okaay please repeat that, whatdo you mean by put a little bit of pressure on it forward?

like drop the car and drive it then come back and tighten it? or what exactly do you mean?

Make sure your carrier isnt cracked.. I cracked mine 2 weeks ago.. I think you should stop abusing the car and then it will stop falling apart. Running no LSD doesn't matter- and the 275's will add more stress to the drivetrain because there is more traction to overcome... That's not really an issue though.

Heres a quick paint drawing.

You should know what I mean since you installed it, there is that main bearing that sits inside of a rubber housing and it has some flex to it. When the rubber wears, it can sometimes vibrate and cause that shaking... but its usually at higher rpms, or on older ones... seeing that you just changed yours, this probably isnt it, but its worth a shot if you're going to pull it apart again... It shouldnt have as much pressure as to move the nuts all the way to the back as I drew it, but just enough so its not just sitting there.

Mike are you saying you dont abuse your car?
I mean launching and driving it hard is abusing it and we ve all seen your videos ;)

but what do you mean by carrier isn't cracked?
which carrier are you reffering to?
thanks btw

That makes a lot of sense actually, I think I bolted up right dead center which is why its getting worse. Yup my rubber bushing was ripped completly all around and when I replaced it, it fixed it by 99% and now just getting worse. So I ll jack it up and check agian.

Thanks for the help ACTIV3, you know a lot for your age, or maybe just maybe runs in the blood ;)

Thanks, I spent the entire summer working down there and I learned a LOT... lol :)

by the carrier I'm pretty sure he means the subframe, that holds the diff onto the main frame of the car...

which would result in subframe damage. I m leaning more towards the caririer being loose again. :D will check and keep you posted.

Also, the reason think so is because when the car is cold or even motor is warm but the undercarriage is still cold, there will be no vibration. If it was the subframe then it would happen all the time.

Driving the car hard doesn't necessarially constitute abuse.. There is a level of finesse that should be excersised.. Take car of her and she will take care of you.

The carrier is the part that holds in the rear differential.. It basically bolts to the subframe of the car, and the emergency brake lines, axels, diff, etc all bolt up/run through it.

Last week when I was in Cali, I hit the gas about half way going around a right turn at about 20MPH, and there was a huge BOOM from the back of the car... I was like WTF but thought that it just popped out of gear.

Continued driving, went to go into second gear *clutch in* and another big clunk... At this point I was scared to death that I tore my subframe, but knew that there wasn't enough load to tear it at that point.

Had my car flatbedded, jacked it up, immediately checked the subframe and it looked perfect all around. Searching around a little more underneath the car, I found that the metal housing around the rubber diff bushing was split, causing the diff to move up and down when any load applied or released from the drivetrain.

So... had the M3 LSD + Driveshaft + Axels + Carrier + etc installed and the car is a whole new beast.

When you switched that all out dosn't that push the rear wheels out. The m3 is wider in the rear? I'm putting in as we speak the Tm15 unit with the cams so I will be in the Hp range as well.

Thanks

finally an LSD huh?
how you liking the new setup? btw I cant wait for my diff to go out so I can order an LSD from Bim

I opted not to go for the M3 hubs, and therefore it has the same track width.

Yeah it's in here... It's only running 6.5PSI though because it needs tuning.
