I don't need to have a license plate on th front of my car. How do you remove the factory license plate plastic holder on the front of the car? Do i need any parts to make it flush after i remove th holder? Thanx

I've never taken one off but I imagine it's just a couple of screws behind the license plate.

To answer the second part of your question, yes their is platic molding strip you have to get from the dealer to fill in the gap. I don't know the part number but if you check the archives over at bimmer.org I'm sure you'll find it.

Just removed the front plate holder on my car... looks WAAAY better without it.

Its healed in place by a few clips. Just inspect the replacement piece, and pry at the corresponding locations on the car. Dont be afraid to use a little force, and perhaps a flat head screw driver to help you pry it lose. The new piece will just snap in.

If I remember correctly, you can request that the dealer never install the front licence plate holder. Does that sound right, because I sure don't want one on mine...

... and I've told the salesperson so multiple times now. He claims the service manager is getting pressure to put them on because police in certain places are starting to enforce the front plate. I plan to go down there next week and talk to them personally and make sure they don't put one on. I want the hardware, but in my trunk (just in case).

Then there should be absolutely NO reason to have one on mine - there is no front license plate law in Georgia. I'm trying to remember if the one I saw in the showroom waiting for delivery had one on it.... :yikes: ...I think I will make sure they are clear on this, JUST IN CASE.

I'm in CA where front license plate is strictly enforced (i've got a couple fix-it tickets for it not on the bimmer though) my dealer was real cool though not only did he make sure the front plate wasn't put on. He ordered the piece that fills the gap and had it installed before I picked up the car. Hopefully with my new one it's the same way.

I took mine off looks way better. I'm thinking it cost my $30 for the part number listed above, and 10 minutes. It is well worth the money and effort. Good luck!!!!

I took mine plate holder off but I want a german plate on there now :) IT comes off pretty easily, just unscrew it and yank it off. Mine had two holes drilled into the bumper, but I was told that bimmian.com sells plugs to fix that.

If anyone's interested, I have a brand new replacement strip for a 2001 330i. I never used it, and it won't fit on my 2005 330i. It's like $30 at the dealer, I'll do $20 shipped - email gcouture@gmail.com.

we have the front plate law in Ohio....it sucks......they totally ruin the looks of a good car...especially our E46's !!!!! ....

we have a bill before the house to do away with it but the FOP and other law enforcement agencies are lobbying hard to stop it :censor: .... they say the main reason is so they have a good reflective target to shoot laser at..... it's Clinton's police state run amok here in Ohi anyhow....you can see from one cop car to the next!

enough ranting ! :ben:

down with front plate laws !
