Hey guys, i am going to NYC when i get off for christmas break from college. I was wondering if anyone has any good suggestions as to where i should go? That can include places to eat, shop, or just walk around to? Try to make the places close together because i plan on taking the train. Thanks guys!

Yo man. So given that you're from NJ you aren't a full-on tourist so I'd say avoid the typical traps. Don't go to Times Square, etc. Anyway, if you're getting in by train you'll start off at 34th and 8th in Penn Station. I'd recommend walking around the Village and making your way over the SoHo. Depending on timing, you should try and grab a bite to eat somewhere interesting in the Village. There are tons of cool places to try out that are reasonably priced too. Just walk around, look at menus, pop into stores, etc. The Village is great. Then if you want to get your shop on, head over to SoHo. So...

First take a cab from Penn Station to the Village. You'll be in the West Village and should walk across towards the East Village. Just tell the cabbie to take you to 7th Ave & Bleeker. Walk along Bleeker until you hit 6th Ave. Cross 6th and stay on Bleeker and then make a left onto McDougal. There are interesting places to check out here. Walk until you hit Washington Square Park and hang a right onto Washington Sq South. You're right in the middle of NYU at this point. Keep walking until you hit Broadway. Then make a right onto Broadway (heading south). Keep walking until you hit Houston St. Cross over Houston and continue walking south on Broadway. You're now in SoHo. Plenty of shopping to do here, plenty of restaurants on Broadway. Hang a right on any of the streets (Prince, Spring,) to check out more interesting stores. As you're heading south on Broadway, don't go past Broome. You'll be heading towards Canal St then which is a complete mess. You'll want to stay in the square area of SoHo (Broadway on the East, Broome on the South, W.Broadway on the West, and Houston on the North). Just look at a map and you'll see what I mean.

It sounds like a lot of walking but it isn't really. Its totally do-able once you take the cab into the area. Afterwards, take a cab up to 57th and 5th Ave. Walk north and hit up Bergdorfs, the most insane department store ever. Check out the Plaza Hotel being remodeled. Take a horse-drawn buggy ride through the park or just walk along Central Park South towards the west. You'll hit Columbus Circle here. And at this point you'll already be on the West Side ready which is good. To get the real NYC experience now, take the subway to Penn Station to catch your train home. Take the A, C, or E train to 34th Street/Penn Station and you're done. The Subway you want is the one heading downtown (usually will say toward WTC).

Hope that helps bro. Feel free to PM or let me know when you're in the city. Can grab lunch or something.
