I am looking to possibly supercharge my 325Ci (which is steptronic). I wanted to hear any thoughts on reliability as well as performance increase. I have reviewed some old threads here and I realize the step limits torque and does not achieve the quickness that manual does, but can someone better clarify this. Anyone with first hand knowledge have any reports? 0-60 times of about 6.2 or so?
I don't plan on racing, just looking for a little more power for spirited driving. But, $6000 is a lot of cash for me so I would like to know better what the difference would be.
Thanks for any comments (or links).

i supercharged my 325ci with step tranny....
i loved it.....its just that you have to use a 5mm smaller pulley so you dont get to much boost and blow your tranny
i had mine supercharged with step tranny for about 5 months and it was perfect, i then decided to do a manual tranny swap to get more boost, and its more than amazing now
LOL
but the step tranny is pretty strong believe it or not.

Any idea what boost level you had with Steptronic using the smaller pully.
Can you characterize the difference with step vs.manual? Is the shift speed the only difference? If so, I would think the Step would still give you a strong sensation of speed even if you slow down in the shift. I am only really concerned with the illusion of speed - I don't care that it actually is fast. So, maybe teh Step is OK?

A smaller S/C pulley will have higher boost due to higher RPM's. Unless you mean a smaller crank (drive) pulley which would decrease the RPM's of the drive belt, then there must be a misstatement here.

I've been thinking about this for quite awhile as well but in the end I decided to use that bulk of the money + a lil more to just pick up a M.
