View Full Version : Bluetooth not functioning

In Oct, I bought an '06 330cic and the bluetooth worked flawlessly with both of my phones. Yesterday, NEITHER phone was recognized by the car. So I deleted the profile from the phones, and when I tried to pair them, it wouldn't accept the pairing. The car/phone would recognize each other, and it even asked for the passkey (on the phone) but then ultimately get the same message on each phone, "pairing failed, Try again?" Is this a dealer issue, or something that I can tackle myself?

For the Moderator(s)- If this post is in the wrong forum, by all means put it where it belongs :)

**UPDATE**
Just got off the phone with the dealer. Service told me that I "burned out" the computer using a non comptable phone. I work in I.T. and never heard of this. Bluetooth is Bluetooth. I never burnt out any of my headsets that I have. I mean, he blew so much smoke up my a$$ that my eyes are foggy. How is this possible? It is a wireless technology. This system worked flawlessly with my two phones from day 1. I have a Blackberry 8290 and a Motorola 815. He told me that the Blackberry is what did it. I find this almost impossible to believe.

All comments are welcome, and if someone can open my eyes to something new, please post it.

how can a wireless tranmitter burnt out due to incompatiblilty? :loco:

so is the dealer saying it is not covered with warranty because it is user fault?

I have a T-mobile SDA which pairs with the car but occasionally I get the activate phone message even though the phone thinks it is paired! I don't know if it is the car or the phone. I haven't figured out if it is the phone or the car.

I responded to your Bimmerforums thread, this is complete BS. I would ask if he could put that in writing, I'm sure the story would change.

Have your BMW taken to another dealership and inspected - it may be a defective antenna.

Thanks for the responses guys! I appreciate the support. And to answer White46's question, it better be under warranty. Thew car is leased, so I am forced to keep it stock (for the most part) I have an aapointment to drop it off on Wednesday. I will keep all of you posted as to the rest of this saga. As Tom stated, it does sound like a defective antenna, or something simple like a loose connection.

It is widely known, reported and documented by dealers and BMW thru SIBs that E46's TCU's are "temperamental", i.e., crappy: http://www.alldata.com/tsb/BMW/index-issue.html just pick any of the "Telematics" SIBs to explain your issue.

Thus, just go to another dealer and tell them that your TCU Bluetooth section quit working and need to be reprogrammed/TCU replaced. It's simple. :hi:

Not that you answer is more helpful! I do not have much tolerance for ignorant answers from people who are supposed to know (or claim to know). Being in service business myself, I only answer what I know about or try to find out the correct information before offering a reply. I have come to know many dealers like this and the best advice - like other on this thread is to go somewhere else.

** UPDATE **
My wife just called me from the dealership. They told her that they need the phone to test it. So, I get the serviceman on the phone, and I tell him exactly what the problem is. He then proceeds to tell me that the phone is not compatible. So I explained to him what I wrote in my above post, and he stood firm, and kept saying that it wasn't an "approved or compatable" brand of phone by BMW. So, I finally said to him that he was an ignorant, stubborn jackass and I tried to explain to him how Bluetooth works. He didn't want to hear how BT works, he knows "how it works", at least that what he told me. He finally tries to pair one of his phones to the car, and wouldn't you know, it wouldn't pair. I then asked him if his phone was "approved and compatable" by BMW's standards. He told me yes, and handed my wife the keys to a loaner car.

The saga continues.

:werd:

I'm on my 3rd TCU. Thank goodness for warranties. The latest one they installed is nearly double what the first two cost. And even this latest one 'freaked' on me and crashed. They ended up just having to pull the main connecting cable and reconnect to bring it back to life, but I thought for sure I was going for a 4th.
