Whats up, I am having these installed this week and need some feedback. I know the OEM speakers have to be removed to make way for the JL 8's, but how many of you totally disconnected the OEM 6x9 "subs", or even removed them. Mine are all blown to $hit and I'd rather loose them all together. Does it sound terrible without those or will I not notice because of the rearseat mids???? I'm only concerned about sound from the front seats as I never have anyone in the back. Ant feedback is appreciated fellas....

My audio guy is contracted to do the competiton systems for JL and I'd talked with him about getting rid of my custom box, and putting in the hidden 8's to give me extra room, and save weight. From his recommendation, it seems that the 8's strain to deliver substantial bass. The current plan for my coupe is to install one of those new shallow subs into my spare wheel well.
It requires the removal of the screw stud that comes up through the middle of the spare well, and you're left with the option of either having a mounting insert which sits snuggly within the spare tire (mounting the amplifier to the back of the rear seats), or removal of the spare all together if you choose to also hide the amplifier in the spare well underneath the sub (the sub has to be mounted inverted in order for the magnets not to cause distortion in this case).
Too top it all off, the JL 8's were quoted to me at around $600 (without the amplifier), in comparison to the wheel well mounted sub rolling in around $400 (with an amp... not JL). Also, your looking at around a 350 watt capacity with the JL's, and as much as 1400 watt's with some of the shallow-subs.

I have my 6x9's removed for my 10" + amp + stealth box. Still sounds sexy
