i have an auto, and i was wondering, is it worth it to S/C? :dunno:

considering the risks of having FI in a car with a slush box and how because of that alone, my car's reliablility and tranny life would basically go down the s<ph>h<ph>i<ph>t hole....

do you guys think its worth doing? or should i forget about it and spend the money else where?

thanks

aren't the ESS kits made to go hand-in-hand with Steptronics? Just get stg.1, which is like 6 or 8 PSI boost (I forget which, but low = perfectly fine). Supposedly, they dun release kit unless it's been test-proven for reliability, etc.
I wish 1. I had the money & 2. they cater to my engine (M56 :( )
330 S/C would be sick  I say go for it :hmm:
unless you plan to maybe upgrade to E46 M3 or something in the near future, then I say save ur $ for whatever's down the road?

lol not planning on getting a new car anytime soon, however, one thing that i failed to mention is that this will be my every day driver, so i dunno

i will have more than enough time to think it through as i'll be saving up for it starting at about a week from now

Stan, for your car and what you're trying to do with it, I think that money could be spent in other places.

I would recommend going with the cheapest low boost kit you can find. Maybe wait for some christmas specials; I wouldn't be surprised to see kits for sale in the 3000$ range within the year.

FI is FI no matter what its bolted to. if FI was that bad on autos, woudnt there be a disclaimer? WARNING: USE OF THIS SUPERCHARGER WILL GRENADE YOUR STEP! i say go for it. since its your daily, just keep your right foot light. jmo..

Have you considered getting a manual tranny swap? That would be :pimp: and would alleviate your concerns about your auto...

Lower the blower PSI for step; get transmission programming for better shifting and less wear; expect to replace the step anyway around 100K

haha yeh...I would do it if I had the money =] the whole debate about DD or not is pretty much non-existant...because obviously we're BMW owners, and we're into performance. Why not bump up the hp/tq with FI right? :) sure our cars are not bad from NA (excluding anything below 330  !!), but FI would be sweeeeet :str8pimpi u can't pretend u dun want it :4ngie: and like others have said, go with the low boost ones. It should still give you around 100hp bump? :hmm:

With 6.5 psi you should be fine. You must understand that if you keep your foot light at most time the car will encounter low to medium stress. But if you are under warranty do it for sure, worst comes to worst you uninstall the kit and go to the dealer. Furthermore if you do enjoy your car and plan on keeping it for sometime you could spend a couple grand more and have the level 10 conversion done to it or manual swap!

BTW I had a FI car before and it is the best feeling walking up to your baby and seeing the teeth shining out of the front bumper! Weird but true....

I be honest, I just go to the stealer ship and plain out lie. I make crazy claims such as my car kicks out of gear after some joy driving. BLA BLA BLA BLA get bit angry say what hell call BMW corp if they say no. And after being *****ed out by BMW you get a new tranny. But you must call BMW not them they never do it lol. And yes that is how I did on my 2000 328i before it exp on me.

I hate it when peole say stuff like this...u want it cuz u want ur car to be more fun than it is now. Get it. Been modding cars for a while now, and trust me when I say, no matter how fast u think u are there is always somebody that can bust ur ass!!! I'm gonna get the ESS 8 psi kit for mine( limited to 7 cuz of the whole step thing but who cares), ESS step software, and the cams. Should be right around stock m3 for half the price of one....works for me

But the c38 kit is easily upgradable to stage 2 with intercooler and more power....plus it safe at stage 1 8psi with oil cooler...

So true....my good friend has an 01 camaro ls1 with some mods to the engine and is running high 10's in 1/4 mile but honestly if you think about it your not trying to be the fastest out there. just fast enough for you and hopefully fast enough to burn some people...(if your lookin for high power; e46 BMW (non-M) was the wrong place to start)

i wanted the c38 kit in the beggining but ive decided to go with the c30 kit because it came with an intercooler for stage 1, stage 2 would mean more $$$, money that i dont have at the moment lol and plus, im going to be running VERY low boost anyways since i dont wanna blow my tranny, i will be out of warranty soon, and when that happens, i will be FOCKED

no, you wont be fuxed, you will be only left with one choice to unfux yourself and end up getting a manual tranny.

so if you go FI, go as far as you can now so that when your tranny fails, you'll still have a great system to upgrade as a manual.

If not don't get it at all. but in seriousness, alot of people have auto and boost low and have no problems.

I think AA would be your best bet.

they have kits that hit the 3300 dollar mark:hmm:, safe for autos and can be equiped with intercooler for some extra, plus they are in your area and pretty sure will cater to your every needs. Id drive there and have them sprinkle magic dust on your pretty car.

or you can wait til I sell mine when I go for something else end of this year.:p

the one you posted is for a twin screw kit not the rotrex.

centrifugal is cheaper then positive displacement charger that is twin screw.

Hey Gaby, We offer a s/c kit for your car that costs $4400.00. It is the c-38 non intercooled kit making around 100 WHP. It is not on our website, but we are in the process of adding it. If you have any questions feel free to call me.

I don't think the AA c38 kit with 8 psi is a safe kit for an auto 330 !
(100whp!!) . the C30 intercooled was perfect for autos i dont know why it was discontinued . U need something with lower boost ( ~6 PSI ) .

for the OP i have a technik s/c that i run on my daily driver 330 (its also a step). it feels a lot like a 335's acceleration but instead of turbo spool (however slight in a 335) i get instant torque when i put my foot to the floor i'm currently running on about 6 to 6.5psi and at the limits of my tranny(310-320 lbs of torque) but i still pass up v8 mustang's and (stock) vert m3's with ease. as far as the daily driving i can only attest to my charger kit but its purely docile if you drive it that way (still get 26mpg mix highway/ city/ traffic driving) last but not least sleeper style ftw. plus i love looking at the front of my car and seeing the hint of my intercooler peaking out.
