Nothing new, just another DIY, that we have all seen. The only thing I can add is how I did the tweeters. Oh, I used the Alpine Type R set. Very impressive by the way.
I removed the door panels just like all of the DIYs say to. I then cut a hole for the speaker to breathe/fit. I then used 3 rings made of 3/4 MDF to space the woofer closer to the door panel and give it room for the magnet. I then filled all of the gaps in with a 2 part epoxy putty compund. (very cool) Worked like a charm. This process was kind of a pain in the a$$. Getting the speaker mounted in JUST THE RIGHT SPOT so the door panel will go back on. Can you say frustration?:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
When it came to putting in the Alpine tweeters, I was going to hack and cut up the existing mount and fit the tweeter in. There was a guy at work, I call him "Fat HillBilly" (great guy) that suggested tearing the protective covering off of the Alpine tweeter and mount it in the factory location. So I gave him my brand new tweeter and watched him rip it to shreds. The results were amazing. I had an Alpine tweeter mounted just like the factory tweeter. It popped in the OEM spot, but I did use some liquid epoxy to secure it fully. This is what it looks like.

I then tapped into the factory wires in the doors to power my new speakers.
I started another thread to try to find out which wires were + and - for the tweeter. I did the old battery trick to find out. Green/black stripe is +, and all green wire is - for those who want to know.
I took the back end of the car apart with a DIY I found on here (for a cabrio) and started working on the amp area. I used a Memphis Audio MCA-2004 amp to power them. I tapped into the factory wiring at the amp for all for speakers (2 woofers and 2 tweeters) and ran seperate wires to the trunk where my amp is mounted under the false floor. I mounted my crossovers and connected everything. What an amazing sound. This is probably the best mod I have done to the car yet. I don't have to crank the crap out of the stereo to hear it with the top down now!! I am impressed by all of the parts I added. The Alpine type R's are impressive, the Memphis Audio 2004 is amazing. I am VERY happy with this mod. I will be replacing the rear speakers soon, which will be powered by the other 2 channels on the MCA2004. I will post that up when I get it done.
