good day

some of you may have seen on other forums and in this month's Performance BMW magazine that we have recently supercharged an M3 CSL for an oveseas customer, using the ESS kit.

We thought it may be of interest to detail the latest developments with this project:

whilst the car never felt sluggish we alwaysfelt there was more to be had safely, so we fitted a smaller pulley and did a little re mapping and the car now pulls even harder, as you would expect. The UK Dyno Dynamics dyno showed some 430 ish rear wheel horsepower last time ( mode shootout 6F, 3rd gear)with the previous pulley, so we are eager to get it back on there and see the latest results, will post them up soon.

The car never got close to overheating even on track testing at Bruntinghthorpe, which has the longest high speed straight in the UK at some 2 miles, however as a safety precaustion we have fitted one of our own custom made enlarged radiators holding about an extra 3 litres water, for more effective cooling.
It was a tight fit but worth the effort we think; we also fitted a Pacet electric Profan with adjustable thermostatic control in place of the OEM viscous fan, all as seen in the below images. We decided to fit the Profan for two reasons :
1. the oem fan blades had to be shaved a little to clear the radiator hose after installing the ESS kit, and we then had to shave them just a little more to clear the larger radiator, so we did not want to compromise overall cooling .
2. wanted to see if the car would run cooler and maybe not so much of a drain on the engine from the viscous fan.
As a result the car cetainly runs a little cooler, according to the OEM water temp gauge ( as we al kno wa colder engine is a more powerful engine, up to a point) and it could be just the "placebo" effect but there seems to be just a little more low end "zip" now due to elimination of the OEM fan ...

We also completed installation of the Racelogic adjustable traction control system, you may have seen a post we made a few weeks ago detailing how we have worked with Racelogic to make this system work on E46 and post 1999 BMW cars. racelogic supplied the parst and we had to mess about with the cars software to prevent it "seeing" the traction control as some kind of fault with the car and switching to limp mode. The other thing we had to do was find a way of dealing with the abs sensors' CAN Bus signals, as teh racelogic was originally designed to read hall effect or waveform type sensors.
This all took some time but was worth it we think, the system now allows the driver to dial in the percentage of rear wheel slip / slide he wishes, and can go charging into a curve at full throttle planted and the racelogic system will not allow the back end to step out any more than the pre set limit :yikes:

Obviously there are limits to how hard you can charge into the bend, the laws of physics will always apply :) We will post up videos of this in action soon.

what's next ? well the customer has asked us to respray the car in black, with the colour fading into clear coat as it reaches the front vorsteiner carbon bonnet, new vorsteiner carbon front bumper and the ca carbon front wings, so that the carbon shows through. We think this will look great, let's see :-)

I would LOVE to get one of the Racelogic adjustable traction control systems. Just have a few questions.

1) Will it work on both supercharged and stock vehicles?
2) How much?
3) Does the system only adjust the slip or can it also control the ABS system to be less aggressive?

I hate my traction control with a passion... the 325 bearly gets off the line because of it and then cuts power on every gear change for too long. Exiting corners is very frustrating especially when changing gears in long fast turns. Last M3 I drove was not nearly as bad.

Thanks for the info... nice M3 CSL you guys built!

Hi Nico

the Racelogic system works independant of all the oem systems, meaning all the OEM stabilty control systems etc must be switched off. Racelogic is purely a traction control system, so does not have any effect on the braking etc.

It does however use the cars ABS sensors to read relative wheel speeds and so decide when too much slip is in play and soft cut the power.

It is so smooth and seamless acting that you only know it is working by virtue of the slight "misfire" noise it produces when in action:)

Please let me know your location and we will quote you cost and shipping.

Please note we need to have your ecu with us to make the required software changes. We may be able to do this for you remotely if you have download facilities.

This system works on manual and auto transmissions, on manual you have the added advantage of adjustable launch control for perfect 1/4 mile times.

Works on engines in any state of tune.

thanks
