okay guys,
I see mostly everyone that has FI, has a super charger on a E46 non-m or m.
Is there any company that makes a turbo for e46's? If not how possible is it, what kind of turbo would you have to custom? and whats the rough cost that i may be looking at if i was to take this on? My friend just dropped a turbo in his car, and god damn i love it (non bmw). It has inspired me lol
So whats your say on this?

Turbos are good for peak power but superchargers are going to give you that nice low end grunt. Whenever this turbo kit comes out I can garuntee you it'll cost more than a comparable supercharger just because they're pretty much the only ones with a turbo kit out for e46s.
I'm not bashing turbos or anything, I love'm but as far as E46s go, for the money superchargers are the way to go. And there are a good amount out right now helping to keep their prices competitive.
ASA, ESS, Technik, AA, VF engineering, etc.

I hate to see when people say things like 'turbo's are only good for high rpm'. while yes, a huge hairdryer will only be good for high rpm, anyone driven the new 335 yet? so much torque, feels like a totally N/A engine. it is all about the proper sizing of a turbo, you can make it a torque monster (look at how a turbo diesil runs) or make a peaky laggy highstrung engine. turbo's also don't rely on a pully to make power, they use wasted exhaust energy, not the crankshaft energy that could be used to move the car.

We make a kit for the E46 M3 currently. Our E46 non-M kits will be in development shortly. Here's a link to our turbo kit. http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/price/BMW/M3/HorsepowerFreaks/Turbos/Turbo_Kits/part/HPF_750
And it is indeed a torque and horsepower monster. We just added 40ft-lbs of torque over the graphs on our site with our new intake manifold.
Take care,
Chris.

We have done a turbo kit on a E46 Non M. The car was actually in our booth this year at Bimmerfest. We just finished up our E46 M3 turbo project as well and that was a success.

That all depends on the size of the turbo. Pick the right turbo and you can have a very efficient powerband.

What fact-based statement lead you to that conclusion?
One of the "pros" of supercharging is that you can buy an off-the-shelf kit right now, and get a lot of tech support. At the moment, no one is making an affordable turbo kit for non-Ms... or Ms for that matter. Keep in mind I said affordable.
After reading what I just wrote... yes, you'd probably be better off with a S/C, unless you want to do a lot of custom fab and tuning.
