Active Autowerke
04-30-2007, 08:35 AM
Hello Board,
Over the past a couple of months we have been working on a E46 M3 Turbo Project. We were able to finish up the car last week and have it shipped over to Los Angeles for Bimmerfest.
We did a complete build from bottom up and we exceeded our goals.
The owner of the car is one of our board members Vik a.k.a TazaM3.
I want to first of thank everyone who helped in the project and a special thanks to a couple of our staff members who worked in overdrive to make this happen, Barry Elton ( Special Thanks ) , Lance Ho Lung, and Yirot.
The car made 836-838 RWHP in 92 Degree plus weather!!!
Here is a list of the mods followed by pictures and a video. Enjoy. See you all at Bimmerfest 2007.

This is amazing..:excited::excited:
Great acheivement! But am i the only one who thinks that is kind of excessive in an M3? There is no possible way Vik is going to get traction any time early. I respect what has been done, and if it makes you happy then great but 1000 HP???? that is insane.

Yeah about that, at this price tag that I don't even wan't to think about I guess never is a good time window lol. But a turbo kit for the non E46 be something different.

I'm sure you can drive it around just fine, just don't give it a ton of throttle and traction won't be an issue. Ever drive a turbo car? How about a car with a turbo that can push 1000hp? Very easy to keep the car out of boost an drivable.
probably not in 3rd or 4th either...maybe not even 5th.

lol how about now? I bet money your car isn't even drivable past half throttle on 1st and 2nd lmfao... and who the hell is going to even try racing you besides the HPF m3 just to see? lol buy buy lambo's buy buy p-cars....
Only just Only if this turbo kit weren't so expensive....

Nice work:drool: On a tech side why such a flat power line after 6500rpm? The power line is not smooth is this due to the dyno in use Or not enough time to finish tuning before bimmerfest.

The engine is just breathing very well, too well for this turbo. The car can use a larger turbo and have a linear line that goes even higher. If the turbo size was not an issue then this car could easily make 1000+rwhp. Maybe one day i will change the turbo (theres really no more room and the turbo is already huge).
I think i will be happy with staying in a flat 830rwhp power band in every shift-redline for now.

If the turbo was to small wouldn't the power levels drop off insted of being just flat. What boost are you running or do you have a dyno graph showing the boost levels? Would be nice to see more of a linear line that goes higher I agree other wise you might as well change at 6500-7000 to put you back in the power band rather than reving another 1000rpm or so for no gain. I'm sure with more time you will make it better it is certainly just the beginning:thumbsup:

Thats crank BHP, for example your T/A at 600rwhp is 705bhp at the crank.
His 835rwhp comes out to be exactly 982bhp and if the temperature drops a few degrees outside he will right there.
I am sure i don't have to tell you this but for those of you that did not figure it out.
Multiply crank bhp by .85 and thats rwhp.
Divide your rwhp by .85 and you have your crank bhp.
Either way its nice numbers for that car.

Dividing crank horsepower by .85 will get you the correct rwhp, but multiplying rwhp by .85 or even 1.15 (which is what im sure you mean) is incorrect. You should multipy rwhp by 1.18 to get the crank HP (assuming a 15% drivetrain lost)
Vic's car with a 15% drivetrain loss is making 985rwhp.

836 divided by .85 will get you 984 so why wouldn't it work.
Either way you divide or mulitply he has a fast car. That was just my point.
I was also responding to the guy who asked how Vik get 1000hp from 836rwhp.

Another thing to mention, the car was dyno'd on a very hot humid day in FL. Last night the car was truly disgusting, in low boost spinning in 4th gear, high boost you cant even drive it. I think the car will make over 900rwhp right now.

not to put you down u make great numbers but those numbers are probly and 99% likely to be ase corrected. so it wouldnt matter if it was dynoed in fl or in alaska.

get some nitto drag radials nitto 555 r2 dr that should help on ur traction alittle and u should get about 10,000-15,000 miles on them if u dont go to the track often. if u dont have any suspension work done yet to help out traction now is a good time

Another thing to mention, the car was dyno'd on a very hot humid day in FL. Last night the car was truly disgusting, in low boost spinning in 4th gear, high boost you cant even drive it. I think the car will make over 900rwhp right now.
That vid of you pulling on someone in 4th gear is disgusting!

Here is a short freeway video, JTM3 shot from his AA SC'd M3 on the way to Bimmerfest.
All of the runs were in 4th gear at about 80mph, notice the tire marks in the first pull (thats over 110mph) and how far the car travels.

what size turbo is used on this setup? Is this a universal AEM ems with a custom wiring harness? Are you going to mass produce this setup? If so what will the cost be? No pictures of the exhaust manifold? Is it log/cast? Whats with the dip in the torque curve between 7k and 7.5k? What psi where you boosting at each pull?

I just witnessed Taza's car on the highway tonight we did a few pulls and he made my car look like it was parked, lol. This new setup is UNGODLY fast, it looked somewhat similiar to Dive's proto 996TT pull on that M6, lol.

Active Autowerke Custom AEM Plug and Play ECU
Sorry for gravedigging, but I am wondering if you guys are using the AEM to control drive-by-wire or if you're using another method?
