I am installing a used 6th generation bluetooth and am having two issues. I have installed everything less the pairing button, and bluetooth antennae. The fakra connector on the wire and antennae are both male... Is there an adaptor? Additionally, I tried to use the voice input system to see whether I have a dud and it doesn't work yet. Despite not having the last two parts installed shouldn't the voice system work?

The pairing button must be installed for the kit to work properly.

I just installed a 7th gen Bluetooth Module and have everything connected but cant ge tthe voice to work either. Maybe its my phone, will be testing it out soon though with one of the BMW recommended phones.
I'll keep watching this thread for inputs :)

Check to make sure the SES jumper Plug is connected in the trunk, likely this is the problem.

Tried two different jumpers, one that came with the car, the other the blue jumper..still no voice command..not even the prompt :(

What type of phone are you using?

Thanks to Tom at EAS for the quick delivery on the pairing button!

Unfortunately, I have everything installed now and the voice prompt will not come on. I checked all connections including the jumper plug and still get no response. Is there anyway to verify that I didn't get a bum module? Module is a 6th generation BMW Everest IBUS 84.11.6952218 SW:35 HW:30

Even if you have the SES jumper, if the original module was never programmed for voice recognition, it will never work.
What does it say on the label? Does it say just ULF?

Yes, check the MODULE. If it says ULF MIT SES(should be bold and written perpendicular to the rest of the text on the label) then it just needs to be programmed. If it just says ULF then you need to get yourself a Voice recognition module.

Now about the programming part, I haven't gotten mine programmed yet. I am assuming the Dealer can do this (SA622 or something) Because in the BMW original Bluetooth retrofit instructions, there IS a programming step at the end of installation.

Good Luck, I'm waiting to get mine progrmamed as well.

BTW, TOM, I am using a Nokia N70. It pairs with the car fine and i can recieve calls using the face button but I cant get the same button to dial or give me a voice prompt. I can however use my phone to make calls and talk and hear using the BMW mic and speakers.

Thanks

Adeel

You didnt mention if your phone was successfully paired or not. If everything else works, THEN the above applies. If you cant even get the Bluetooth connection going, then you have some other issue

Where did you get yours from? if Europe then Im prety sure you are in the same boat as me and have the SES in your ULF but need to get it programmed.
If you are cool with your BMW dealer, try and see if they can do it for you. If successful, let us know :)

The only item not connected is the bluetooth antenna, still waiting on a part. I never found the female end of the cream colored connector from the ULF under the parking brake. The only connector there is the purple one for the shark fin/bumper antenna. Is this common for South African manf. E46?

I don't see text SES anywhere on the ULF unit. As much as I hate to admit it, this item was purchased from ebay. Spoke with the seller and confirmed that unit was working prior to delivery in a 2004 M3. (Of Course...As much as I can assume I am not being scammed...) Seller willing to refund if I confirm unit is not working by a BMW tech.

That's not an ULF, that's a TCU. Not only it could not have Bluetooth (activated or not or just simply not working at all) but there could be no SES at all depending of the car production date (around 03/05-on here in the USA) that it came from or around TCU manufacturing date around 12/04-on.

According to that label this is a 04/04 manufacturing date, which makes it a MY2004 where there was no Bluetooth or SES available at all, only Assist service.

Yes, it is a big dud. Sorry.

BMW says the unit is non compatible with my car and claims that it functions. Wasn't there an issue with bluetooth units that didn't function in M3 model year 2004 that started a lawsuit or petition? Need evidence, I don't believe this thing worked in the first place. :read:

This may be a dumb question, but doesn't the phone need to me able to do voice calling?

The ULFs to the voice recognition and send the phone number to the phone. There are some systems that just activate the voice recognition function in the phone, but that's not what happens with the ULF with SES.

There were a series of 2004 Motorola TCUs that had a bluetooth passkey number written on them but did not actually have bluetooth, only Assist. This module is probably one of those.
