Hi,
My car is a E46 325 with the ASA SK1, stage 2 pully.

i am currently running a Perfect Power SMT7 but recently i think my ECU is rejecting it. No one tells you this but the OEM ECU is just too smart for its own good. Whatever i have tried to tune my SCed E46 325 to solve the lean issues always ends up in a road block.

The problem is that i have also tried the Apexi SAFC Select to adjust my AFR but the alterations the the air-fuel were suspected by the ECU and the changes bypassed. So that is why i have the SMT7. Now i am getting the EML light, GT-1 plugged in indicated a list of faults, each and every fault was tested, all running/working as it should. So the only thing is that the piggyback is causing the ECU to detect faults and making the car go into the 'safe mode'.

Does anyone know what is actually making my ecu go nuts?

So for those guys that's running aftermarket piggybacks and standalone ecus, how do you guys get the ECU to accept the piggyback/standalone?

thanks

Standalone would not be using the motronic ecu... you work off base maps and go from there. You are not going to be able to "Tune" a motronic ecu it will adapt out any changes you make. At least it did in my jetta which had a motronic ME7.5 in it.

Again piggyback never worked ... you cannot "fool" the ecus like a honda, MItsu, and Subarus ....

If I were you I would go Megasquirt standalone if you do not have to worry about emisssions or inspections... or

Go see someone who can remap a Motronic ECU and give you a custom reflash/Tune...

you SOL otherwise (As far as I know) :)

its seems like fanatics in malaysya have no tuners to turn too

even zulu4 has been having problems tuning because of the "region lock thing or whatever.

can ess tune an ASA kit even though its in the region of malaysia??

we actually have pretty good tuners for japanese turbo cars.

but for BMWs, esp with SC kits it's a nightmare. All shops specialising in BMWs cash in on those Chip/remapping tuning. Good for normal stuff but when further adjustments required for the SC, so far both my piggybacks are not getting past the damn ECU.

So, what kinda aftermarket engine management are those guys with SCs running high boost or turbos, i am sure they have their fueling sorted somehow cause i know that the OEM ECU will not be able to do the job.

but, thinking back.....
if the OEM ECU is so good at detecting aftermarket changes, won't it be able to compensate/adjust for whatever kind of mods we have done to the engine?

if so, then i'll just remove my SMT7, drive around slowing until it picks up the new change and alter my fueling etc to suit my SC.

What do you think?

yo! haven't spoken to you in a while, hope things are well! missing parts from my kit are finally in and i've actually found a tuner who can tune my MS45 ecu without any issues. so far so good... knock on wood.

hi, mind sharing how your tuner is bypassing the ecu?

he's not bypassing the ecu. he can reflash it.

all that stuff posted abt the complexities of tuning MS45 seems like hogwash to me.

i'll PM you his contact, he's also a motec dealer if you still wanna go that route.

Check out if maybe you could adapt a Motec or even an Electromotive to your car... this would allow you to make all necessary changes in order to gain power.
But i really doubt they make this kind of apps for our cars.

 wow, you're lucky then.

maybe living in hot climate countries, we have that darn MAF sensor. Do your cars all run MAF sensors?

I too can drive around without any aftermarket management, but with a AFR of around 14, i am not comfortable doing that.

That's why i am having these problems, the piggybacks which i have tired are just not being accepted by the ecu.

Guys who have gone the reflashing route have favorable results but there are just fine-tuning their fueling.

I am actually requiring further adjustments to get a nice AFR and the perimeters of reflashing is just not enough.

i'm curious, what's so special about your car that it can't be tuned with a reflash?

Please read my 1st post.

 in what way does your first post tell us why your ECU cannot be tuned with a reflash?

on second thoughts, nah, i'm not really interested in knowing why. happy tuning anyway.
