Ok, after plugging in my ECU i went to attatch the battery. When tightening the positive terminal the wrench grounded itself on the battery brace for rought 7-10 seconds. Car cranks but won't fire up but you can smell gas. All electronics work. The car just doesn't seem to get spark. What do you all think?

The issues that you describe sound like the ECU went into "security" mode and is inhibiting the ignition. BMW's ECU's are squirrely and the ECU has a security code that has to be programmed by the dealer so that the ECU is synchronized to your car. You can't take your ECU and put it in another similar model BMW and have it start, the ECU will work in only one car. If the ECU thinks it isn't in synch with the car, the car will turn over but won't allow ignition.... like what you describe.... a long shot, but, start checking the higher amp fuses/circuit breakers (there are also several in the ECU box I believe, you may have just blown a fuse with your battery shorting incident... if no fuses are blown, you'll probably have to tow the car to the dealer to have the ECU realigned. Be careful if you go to the dealer, if you have a supercharger and custom software from the manufacturer, the dealer will probably overwrite the supercharger fuel/ignition map with their computers. If no supercharger, no problem if they do overwrite....

Alright. I planned to check all the fuses today (I am about to start). And yes, my car is supercharged. So I may have to get it towed and then send the ECU back out again. :bawling:

Hopefully some of the smarter guys in this group will offer their opinions in addition to mine. In my case, I'd send my ECU back to ESS because they stored my security codes or whatever it is called in their system and have the latest software updates. They are able to reprogram my ECU without the need for me to have my car towed back to the dealer for an ECU realignment. Good luck....:str8pimpi

what do you mean by this " wrench grounded itself on the battery brace for rought 7-10 seconds." how does that happen? i can you grounding it for a second. It sparked and then you took it off.
can you explain your self better?
Thank we will try to help as much as possible

Ya, sorry. Well my brother was tightening it down and it went across the battery brace and my bro tried to rip it off but it got really hot. The wrench started welding itself to the brace basically. We had a towel nearby and he grabbed it with the towel and started hitting the wrench to break it loose. It took ~5-7 seconds till he got the wrench off the battery brace.

Did you check the fuses in the firewall near the ecu? There is a black box that's a bit tricky to open that has about 5 or 6 fuses. I've had my car not start before due to one of those being blown.

Car is fine. Got it towed to the dealer and it sat for four hours. When the tech went out the car started right up. Weird.
