I'm about to get my windows tinted. I live in yonkers, and im wondering how much trouble these tints will give me. im thinking of doing 30% all around. what are your experiences? how much are the fines?

im going to put it this way...the majority of customizers have tint. if the punishment was that terrible, no one would have it.

jerseys different but i imagine its the same idea basically. dont go looking for trouble and it probably wont find you.

jersey's more harsh when it comes to tint. i've never gotten pulled over for tint in NY\C yet. but then again, i try to roll my windows down as soon as i'm about to pass a cop or if i get pulled over for something else. as for yonkers, you'll probably be fine there. NYPD is a lot more anal than the local\stateys in yonkers.

i got pulled over the other day in my girls e90. Cop was a prick too. Not only that but the cop knew us. Came up to the window and said, Hello how are you guys doing? No get out the car and meet me around back. than he says. Whats the deal with the tints? :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor:

DON'T blame the cop, you know it's illegal & you still do it. he's just doing his job, but ***** slap him when he pull's an attitude or god-complex

I have first hand experience with this deal....in NYC you can have only 70% on the windows, I too thought it was 35%, but it was in 2002, not in 2007 they changed it. Anything less is ticketable, now, they are setting up "safety inspection zones." in which people with tints, no seatbelts, cell phones, unreasonable noise from your stereo, and loud exhausts are getting pulled over.

I have gotten pulled over 3 times for tints with only having 35 percent. No ticket so far just tell them the car came with it. This was when i had no front plate also since the front plate has been on never been pulled over just for tints.

in the city i wouldn't risk it, although it is nice, i wouldn't bring my car into the city while having 20% just cuz the last time i drove my mothers 35% TL, much less with my parents in the car by La Guardia picking them up from the airport, one of those "safety inspection" points some cop standing in the middle of the road waved us over, didn't say one word to the cop and just drove off after giving me the ticket.

nyc city guys, the boys are cracking down on tints after the cop was shot because the car had tints and concealed a weapon.

i used to but i was tired of harassment. it got awful when the cop told me he'd come to my house once a week to issue me my weekly ticket.

This is 100% true, it came down as that some guys have been pulling along cops, and have been pointing guns at them, and the officers didnt know, and the people drove off. Im sorry but its scary knowing people are pointing guns at you, yet not knowing who. Anyway if you look at 20% tints, try walking up on a car with those, all you see is sometimes an outline, any movements can scare you, and dips, or any furitive movements.

something a lot of people didn't know; apparently the cops did not have their guns drawn when they walked over next to the car. big mistake that cost one of them their lives, and the other to get shot. standard procedure is to have your hand on your gun and stay behind the car in it's blind spot until the person rolls their window down. it's a tragedy, but it had a lot more to do with the officers making a mistake rather than the car having tint.

Where do you get your information from... there is no standard procedure in the NYPD to have your hand on the gun until the person rolls down there window... or stay in their blind spot. There is no protocol for when you should draw your weapon or have your hand on it. You dont know if the officers made a mistake or not, no one else was around to witness it. Please state where you get your information from because I have read the rules and regulations of the NYPD and nowhere does it state that, or have any officers been taught that. They approach together on either side of the car slowly, and tap the back left portion of the car and then walk up to the side pillars of the car and do their business. Please do not make assumptions about them making mistakes, its bad enough they got killed, but I had to watch them be buried, sadest thing to have to go to.
