View Full Version : Tommy's HPF M3 made 652rwhp race+meth/589rwhp pump+meth

We just finished the dyno pulls on Tommy's M3 to verify the HPF750 turbo kit installation and power numbers. It is around 50 degrees outside today where our kit will make quite a bit more power than we advertise. His car made 652rwhp on 110 octane race fuel + methanol, and 589rwhp on 91 octane pump + methanol.

Here's a dyno graph of the "SAE corrected" numbers. This graph doesn't show the actual power like the first one does, but it adjusts the power based on conditions so that any future "SAE corrected" dyno graphs can be compared against each other.

Not sure why that surprises you. Two days ago you claimed to run 17psi on straight 91 octane :hmm::

The wastegate spring was changed after that, the cars lowest boost is now 17psi. You add it up in your fact filled only head and imagine what it would make. Ive ran 91 in my car a couple times and it still runs hard.

He has bulit internals=bulletproof.

built internals are far from bulletproof. They may buy you a few more seconds on a bad tune, but they won't survive extended knocking.

Stock internals on 91=scary IMO
91+meth is more like 100+ octane.

Its is better to run a 50/50 mix with meth/water. Water is much better for cooling.

Yes on a built engine, lower compression, forged pistons etc...

91+meth is more like 100+ octane.

Sure their not bulletproof but its far more safer. It also allows you run more boost b/c you lower the compression of the motor. That is the big issue here, but ofcourse you know that dont ya?

So now i have a bad tune? Ive been driving my car on 91, on race 30psi mode for months now with great results. I didnt know i drove my car for a few seconds...

This is true. The lowered compression certainly helps. You run 17psi on straight 91 with lower compression, HPF runs 13psi on 91+meth with stock compression -- it seems to balance out.

I never said you had a bad tune. I said that built internals will not save someone from a bad tune. By all regards, you've set the bar high.

Unfortunately the balancing act doesnt work that way. Theres several other factors, such as forged pistons etc.. Stock compression is damn high, if the engine is pushed hard enough with 12+psi on a constant basis the gasket will surely let go even with race gas.

Im really impressed these cars are still making ignition good enough, i want to hear if the stock coils will hold in a couple months.

Totally Agree and that isn't a knock at HPF's, as I know you weren't knocking them as well.

You cats can say what you want about Vik, lol, but the guys been around the block with the S54, he knows it very well.

Regardless, I'm very impressed with what HPF's has done so far, awesome results, etc. But 13 psi on any fuel with 11.5 to 1 compression is on the edge, epecially 91 and meth for other reasons as well, but so far so good and I hope that continues!

We'll definitely want to get stage 2 out to you. We really had to pull back for 91 octane pump gas. Methanol allows us to accommodate the 11.5:1 compression even with 91 octane pump.

Holy crap, I need stg2!

Imagine race fuel power all the time!! Let us know when you're ready to upgrade :)

Thanks. I updated the dyno graphs to show boost and posted up the torque curves. His car had a little tire spin on the dyno as you can see where I noted on the torque graphs.

I like the torque curve, looks strong. Kind OT but Chris could you put this in your stage 2 tank, instead of straight methanol and still boost ~12psi on pump gas?

"Boost Juice" is a proprietary mix of 49% methanol and 51% water. It is made in a controlled environment with special care to make sure the ratios are accurate to result in a high performance water-methanol fluid formulated for use in an injection system

For sure! Chris, will you rev any higher with stage 3? Looks like you could get useable power through 9000 if the engine allowed it...

We went with 100% methanol for it's higher octane. Not only that, we're running slightly more than 20% methanol. This allows us to get the effective octane rating up high enough to be safe at 12-13psi of boost.

Well you can see the power is still going up. This means if we could rev the engine out, we would have a much better power band for racing. I've heard a lot of stories about the rod bearings and the oiling system. We may play around at the higher rpm's with our stage 3 kit, but we will have to do a lot of testing before I'm willing to release kits that rev out higher.

Here is some information I just posted about the exhaust systems we've tested with (which include results from Raj, Josh and Tommy)

Chris, i don't know if there would be a big market for some of the customers for this product I'm about to mention, but. Just out of curiosity, would you guys offer a electronic exhaust valve/dump in the middle of the exhaust, such as the one from QTP if requested by a customer? Other then that, Fantastic werk!

Thanks. At the end of the video is our HPF M3 dynoing with the HPF exhaust. We will have that made out of titanium so it will be light. That exhaust will only be for turbo customers because it has no muffler or resonator and is a bit loud. Everyone who has heard it at our shop has liked the sound, and the power should be better than any other exhaust on the market (although we haven't done comparison pulls on it). But it does sound mean.

That is something we could do, however we're running the stock exhaust pipes all the way to the back for ground clearance which would require two valves. We're probably not going to go there at this point, but if someone requests it we'll see.

Damn, crazy.

Well, my baby is officially garaged for winter, so any vids I shoot now may be a little boring. I did a cruise with the local BMW club last month, and James shot some vids of some twistys along the lake. I haven't seen any footage yet, but we'll post anything that looks like fun.

The HPF exhaust is a straight through dual 2.5". There is no muffler and the tips are ovalized. Here's a picture of the stainless version on my M3. We're going to have our production versions made out of titanium. We will compare dyno results for this exhaust against the stock exhaust shortly.
