The best iPod integration kit on the market for BMW just got even better. If you have a BMW and an iPod - you absolutely need this kit.

Connect your iPod to your vehicle's factory entertainment system and hear what your iPod should sound like in your BMW. CD-quality sound and controlled from your BMW's radio or steering wheel buttons without the need for messy adapters or FM transmitters. The DICE SILVERLINE iPod integration kit always keeps your iPod integrated, charged and ready to go. The DICE SILVERLINE iPod integration kit will also display text from your iPod onto your BMWs Radio/Navigation display allowing you to view Artist, Song Title and Album name while both hands are safe on the steering wheel.

The Trunk interface version of the DICE kit allows you to make the necessary connections at the CD Changer cables in the trunk area, and allows 15 feet of cable length to allow placement of your iPod anywhere in the vehicle you like.

The Radio interface version of the DICE kit is a favorite among professional installers. This kit allows a direct connection directly at the radio, eliminating a long cable from the CD changer connectors in the trunk. This also provide a shorter cable route, reducing the possibility of engine noise. The Radio interface kit is also choice for euro models that do not have CD Changer prewiring.

A clean factory looking installation is possible with our sleek iPod docking cable (included), allowing full connectivity for all iPods utilizing a dock connector - including the iPhone and iPod touch.

The DICE SILVERLINE iPod integration kit connects right to the cd changer connectors or radio connector (depending on configuration) already present in your BMW. The DICE SILVERLINE module transfers information between the iPod and radio through an included iPod-specific docking cable, as if it were an original BMW accessory.

I'm not 100%, but I'm pretty sure there's no tampering with the sound with these units. It's a straight auxiliary input into the amp. In other words, the sound coming out of the unit is dependent on your iPod. Try using different EQ settings and better quality rips.

Check the gain on your ILP, it should be set at +2V. The DICE does have a better quality audio processor (even the 1st Gen DICE), mainly heard at higher bitrates.

Hmmm does the Ipod touch still lock up when connected to the DICE? How much do you think this costs to install?

Hmmm does the Ipod touch still lock up when connected to the DICE? How much do you think this costs to install?

Yes, all iPods are now locked when connected. However, there is another way:

If you want to browse the iPod commands of the iPhone while connected, perform the following steps:

1. Connect touch
2. When iPhone asks to go into accessory mode, press NO or wait for several seconds
3. Press the HOME button for +7 seconds
4. Navigate through touch like normal.

One caveat, you will not have proper text display or steering wheel/radio control in this mode. To return to normal, disconnect/reconnect the touch.

So there's no way to be able to select songs from the Ipod and the steering wheel/radio at the same time?

Not any longer with SILVERLINE. The iPod must be placed in UART mode in order to fully utilize these features, especially with the new generation iPods.

As the iPod's controls are locked, how does one turn off the iPod (sorry, in advance; if this was a dumb question)?

Once the Silverline's are officially released (I read this post http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=536499 before I came across this post); can one still get the HD radio?

Cheers.

The iPod will automatically power down when the vehicle is shut down or switched to a different mode.

The HD DICE and SILVERLINE are 2 different modules, you will need the HD DICE specific kit to receive HD broadcasts.

Thanks for the reply Tom; when I eventually purchase it from you I guess I'll miss out on the HD Radio (I'm really looking forward to this new version-the DICE SILVERLINE). I'm tired of the ugly looking FM transmitter that I currently connect my iPod with (that and the problems with getting sound that cuts off with static from the preset stations).

In addition, I'm also eyeing the OEM Bluetooth Hands-Free phone kit that you sell (I really hate driving and holding the phone at the same time-and it because law in California in several months not to be caught doing this).

I'm sure that in several months you'll have a new customer.

The CD Changer will be replaced, here's the kit you need:

You can leave the iPod in the trunk if you wish, I would recommend removing it on hot days.

The sound quality on my Dension sucks too. In fact I find it shocking that they can produce a car audio accessory that picks up interference from my engine and transmits it through the speakers. Not only that, when it changes tracks it dims the volume and sounds like a record scratching before continuing to play the song. There is definitely some kind of audio processing going on there because it does this with 2 ipods, neither of which have ever had a problem playing things on their own.

Oh and the connector for the ipod is so big it won't plug into my ipod if I have a case around it.

What else is there? Oh yeah, the Bluetooth. It's impossible to pair (seems to work by random chance even if you follow exact instructions) and when it is paired it doesn't work properly. Half the time you answer the call (which doesn't use the steering button but a combination of buttons on the head unit, which is more of a distraction than holding the phone to my ear), and the call gets routed to the phone anyway and the music carries on playing (badly, as usual). WTF Dension??

If I'd known about these problems I would have happily paid for the European Auto Source DICE kit and BMW bluetooth kit. I'd still buy one now but I've already paid the best part of $700 for the Dension stuff with fitting.

This one Dension unit has completely put me off ever doing anything to my car. It is the most sloppy product I have ever bought in terms of doing what it says it's supposed to do. :banghead:

So what's the main difference between the new Silverline DICE and the old gen. DICE kit

Also, i'm thinkin about gettin a DICE kit very soon and just want to clarify on couple things. I have a 2001 320i (it's a canadian car) and i'm not sure if it has CD changer prewiring in the trunk. And also i dont have an AUX input since it came out in 2002 for the E46 series.

so is there a way to install DICE for my car or no?

The main enhanced features would be the following:

Browse by Artist with full Artist Directory listings
Browse by Album with full Album Directory listings
Browse by Playlist with full Playlist Directory listings
ID3 text display, showing Artist, Song title and Album while the song is in play.

Bought the DICE Silverline today from Tom@EAS, like always service was top notch.
he was great help in giving me tips on the install and when I got home, I busted it open and installed the kit. Total time it took me to install?
30 minutes from start to finish.
Sound quality is GREAT!! Better than my expectations and I only expect the best. And the new features are very nice. If you've got an iPod this is a must do mod.....
kind of stuipd not to have done it earlier, so don't hesitate if your thinking about doing this.

Hello,

Following are the problems that I am facing (1999, 328 I, with business CD Player)

1) Every time when I turn on the car after a long time, the radio says stop, so I have to plug out the ipod and play a song then hoook it up again.

2) When I have the text feature avilable (06-01), I can not use the bass, treeble controls as well as "m" control.

3) Changing it from text to no text is easy, but it does not go back to text mode easily (even if I bring it back to 06-01). I have to plug out the module and plug it back in after 50 seconds.

4) And of course, I have to press the buttons twice. Do not like it, but I guess I do not have any other choice.

Any help????????

1) Every time when I turn on the car after a long time, the radio says stop, so I have to plug out the ipod and play a song then hoook it up again.

If the iPod is left dormant for an extended period of time, it can be going into hibernation mode. It will need to be powered up before using.

2) When I have the text feature avilable (06-01), I can not use the bass, treeble controls as well as "m" control.

Either turn off text or move to a different mode if EQ settings need to be modified. This is not something that is done on a constant basis.

3) Changing it from text to no text is easy, but it does not go back to text mode easily (even if I bring it back to 06-01). I have to plug out the module and plug it back in after 50 seconds.

Shouold be no reason for that, CD6/TRACK1 is text display on Business CD, CD6/TRACK99 will turn text off. Remember to return to CD1 afterwards.

4) And of course, I have to press the buttons twice. Do not like it, but I guess I do not have any other choice.

Any help????????

This is normal on pre-2001 radios, a 2002+ radio will eliminate the double-button press.

What is recommended, that should we disconnect the iPod every time we turn of the car for extended time? How long time would be considered extended period of time? Meaning 2 hours, or 10 hrs?

Also, I have amps and subs installed.. so unfortunately I am one of the people that deal with settings a lot, almost every second song... especially bass....

I can live with turning off the text and then turning it back on again, but it does not work. I can turn it off successfully, but when turning it back on, it just stays at "no text mode". (yes, I do go to 6 and then 1.. 06-01)

Thank you.
Take care.

I can live with turning off the text and then turning it back on again, but it does not work. I can turn it off successfully, but when turning it back on, it just stays at "no text mode". (yes, I do go to 6 and then 1.. 06-01)

Thank you.
Take care.

Entering in calender reminders every 5-6 hours will keep the iPod alive and from going into hibernation mode.

Hello
I have Pro.NAV with cd-charger, radio and tape.
I want to use my CD-charger since I don't have a CD-player in front.
I never use the tapeplayer, can this dice thing replace the tape-player instead of the cd-charger?
Thanks

Can't really replace the cassette player since we need to emulate the CD Changer (Cassette doesn't have Shuffle/Random or Next/Prev track commands).

Since you are prewired for a CD Stacker, you will need the trunk interface kit:

DICE - SILVERLINE iPod Integration Kit for 3 Series/M3 99-06 (Trunk Interface)

Nice tip, I am considering getting one of these for my e46...I am a bit nervous/lazy about running the wire from the trunk to my head unit, and I do not really have an idea of where to mount the ipod either...I was thinking of mounting it in the trunk somewhere, and can always re-mount near the head unit late...

Anyone have any pictures of some cool/clever mounting done with the ipod units...either near the head unit or in the trunk (if anyone has done this)? Thanks.

The best mount is not seeing one at all - we're not fans of cluttering up the interior. Popular places for the iPod would be the sunglass holder or glovebox.

I just picked up the radio interface unit for my 02 e46. I'm going to install on Tuesday (tomorrow). I haven't seen install instructions for the radio interface just the trunk cable. Any tips/tricks that I should be aware of before starting?

I'm guessing the large interface cable will make sense once I see the back of the radio? I'm also assuming that one portion of the smaller interface able also connects to the larger interface cable and then to the back of the radio.

Send me your email address via PM and I can send a copy of the instructions for you.

Will my 2001 330Ci have the double button press issue?

How much is shipping to Calgary, Canada through EAS?

2001 and earlier radios will exhibit the "double press" issue on the radio, steering wheel controls are not effected.

I have a cd change factory installed in the glove compartment. If i get the trunk install do I just detach the factory changer and install the dice here?
Also Ive read about HD radio integration. How does this work- other than needing to buy an add on attachment.
Thanks

The HD DICE kits are no longer available.

The trunk interface kit kit will come with everything needed w/ the docking cable. The iPod can be safely stored away in the glove compartment for 100% stealth installation and accessed completely from the steering wheel controls. The DICE comes with a 15-foot cable length to reach anywhere in the vehicle you like.
