Hey,
I have a 2002 M3 and just had a K&N Cold Air Intake installed about 2 weeks ago. Since then, my car is occasionally stalling when i come to stop in neutral with the clutch pushed in. I tried doing it when i am driving as well, by putting it in neutral and the engine will stall as well, but as soon as I engage a gear, the engine picks back up.

I been reading online about K&N filters that can damage the MAF sensor. http://www.knfilters.com/MAF/massair.htm

Not sure how much is true or if this is the real cause that my car is stalling. After reading some supercharger thread, my car is doing about the same thing. RPMs fall to about 500 when i am in neutral and then sometimes it shoots back up to 1000 and sometimes it stalls.

I am wondering if anyone has been through this before and what can you do to fix it? My mechanic recommended removing and cleaning the sensor with denatured alcohol. Instead of possible oil affecting the sensor, could it be the temperature of the air or the fact that air is being forced in?

please help!
Thanks,
Andy

ABout the supercharger and stalling issues...

it was known to be flywheel and clutch combo that made the car stall out..this was said by one of the kit makers.

because some kits had their MAF sensor relocated down in the front of the bumper.. some tried relocating it higher like some 'other' kit and still had some stalling issues.

and then now people have been saying that by covering the intake path it 'went away" some how or something by blocking the air path to their relocated MAF..

most if not all the people with stalling problems run a super upgrades flywheel and clutch which they even have software to elmininate rattle by raising your idle RPM.

I myself have no issuse becasue I think im okat with the stock location of the MAF..

I dont have the intake covered with anything.. its open element right behind the fog light hole .. if air rushes to it it wont stall.. Ive driven in the recent cali rain and no prob..

I believe it a installation prob. or the product or your car..

the intake alone will not stall your car..
