Hows it goin guys.
Got a quick question before I pull the trigger on Nitrous.
Ive done all the research and contacted the right people but I want to be 100% clear on one thing.
I read on here that if you have one of the older ECU's (dont remember the name) then it adjusts the timing itself by as much as 16 both ways from a sensor on the intake manifold/exhaust manifold... is this true?
If it is true then it seems that you wouldnt need tuning at all, and all you would need is colder spark plugs, a clutch that can handle it and your ready for an easy 100 shot.
Also if someone knows the code of the ecu that can do this, and if it sais what kind of ecu it is directly on it that would be much appriciated.

which nitrous system are we talkin here? wet or dry
i put a wet nitrous sytem on my old skyline like 5 years ago and it didnt need any tuning because of the extra fuel the system injects into the intake to prevent leaning out and detonating
a dry system would require an ecu tune to increase fuel and retard timing when the nitrous is engaged.

The kit im going to get is the NX mainline kit and a few other toys to go along with it (FJO unit from NX, bottle warmer...)

Hey man. I'm running the NX Express kit right now. The highest shot you can go with stock ECU software is a 75 shot (which i am running now). You will need a software tune to go over a 75 shot, plus you need colder spark plugs.

Thats what I expected. So its not true then that the eairly e46m3's could adjust timing itself?

So much false info in this thread....
Your stock ECU tune is fine for nitrous. I've never heard of different model years ECU being able to adjust timing more than another years ever.
There are people that have run as much as a 125 shot on stock motor and stock ecu.
You will need a new intake, I believe most are using the K&N 63.

I will try and find the thread where I read that and quote it in here.
but as far as needing to get a new intake? I dont think thats needed. I thought you could just fog the stock intake box, or get a streamline filter and do the same...

im running K & N 69 filter with d/a race software colder plugs and 100 shot no prob. sean at d/a said their race software is actually runs it a little richer at wot

Alrite so after some research this is the plan.
im gona spray a 50 shot with colder plugs on the stock clutch untill I get a new clutch and a tune, then im gona up it to about 125.

i have stock clutch running higher shot. they said stock clutch can handle about 500hp there are alot of people running stage 1 & 2 both AA and VF with stock clutch and still running strong.

Good luck with your project. Also, don't waste your time with a 50 shot.

Your clutch will be completely ok for any shot you are going to go with.

oh yea? ill take it from you guys since you guys know this first hand. 100 shot it is untill I get the tune, then 150.\
Thanks for the help!

I wouldn't do a 150 single nozzle shot. If you want to go above 125, you need to go with a direct port setup.

others have ran 150 and they were fine just have to be sure of all cylinders getting even distribution and higher octane gas.
boki ran 150 single before his direct port setup

Yeah but didn't he have headers and specific software from D/A?

Well im going to be running 100 without a tune.
when I decide to bump it up to 150 I will get a tune from d/a and throw some ebay black ceramic headers on there.

Im going to look into direct port and do some research. thanks for the advice

Anything is possible, but I personally wouldn't risk it. I'm sure thats the same reason Boki moved to a direct port set up.
