Does anybody know approximately how much it runs to have the motor built to prep for FI? How about a good shop to do it in a reasonable amount of time in San Diego?

$10k is a good starting point.
You need to look at the removal and re-installation of said engine when considering the total build cost.

when you say prep for FI..
most ..heck all kits uses the stock motor block and compression as a base map for their kits, so theres really no worry or need to build internals unless you go with a personal tune with a piggyback system of somekind or close ties with a major tuner and spend bux or the ts3 with its own internals..

Both pei and saca can tell you all you want to know about engine building. As a fellow 328 owner, I would say don't bother. It would be cheaper to buy an M3.

Don't want an M3. Insurance is double the price for them. Not worth it in my opinion.

I was thinking only on the fact that I know that over a period of time you loose power due to wear. It has 103k on it now and I want to get another 100k at least out of it.
