View Full Version : HorsepowerFreaks Stage 3 The Awakening - Videos and Pictures

HPF Chris
02-14-2008, 08:46 PM
Stage 3 has Awakened... This one with SMG! This "new" stage utilizes all of the bad to the bone components of our stage 1 & 2 turbo systems with a few "significant exceptions".... This motor has been stuffed with high strength rods, pistons, rod bolts and main bolts and assembled to meet any boost requirement we feel like setting. To create insane boost pressures while maintaining quick spool, our stage 3 is upgraded with a 74GTS dual ballbearing liquid cooled turbo. To expel the burnt gases, we included an arm swallowing 4" stainless steel exhaust complete with four titanium tips.

Here's a video of the first "Stage 3" beast.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmGiQ1y7JDI

Video......

We're going to turn the boost up to around 800rwhp, and we'll decide at that point where we're going to leave it. Below are pictures I've never shown before of a lot of HPF components.

If anyone would like to get any of our stage 1, 2 or 3 turbo kits for the E46 M3, please email david@horsepowerfreaks.com.

Take care,
Chris.

Chris you guys are ridiculous

My car will have 335's on it shortly. I think Ardika might follow suit. I'm going to have a show 19" version of our wheels and a drag race 17" version. I don't know which tires to recommend. I do like BFG drag radials or MT. I never mismatch bias ply and radial however. That's asking for disaster.

So does the wastegate just dump out into the atmosphere? I didnt see it being dumped into the exhaust?

Yes... however that will only happen when boost tries to go past our boost settings, which will be around 16 on pump and 30 on race fuel.

Thanks. :)

Thanks for all the comments everyone. We'll have some dyno #'s for you all next week.

you should put in a bypass valve with muffler then bypass straight pipe. i think taza's car is like that. i had made a bypass but i was not turbo so mainly for sound here is link. would be great for you turbo cars.

Hello guys. The 4 inch piping is awesome, but it is a little too loud for me when crusing. Wide open throttle sounds really really nice, as well as idle, its just the crusing part of it that we will have to quiet down. Hopefully the "race twister" will quiet it down a bit. Major thumbs up to HPF. Since I had the car on the lift, we were VERY impressessed with the craftmanship in putting together this kit. It always surprises me how solid it is. :) My meth kit will be arriving soon from HPF, can't wait to install it!

lol yeah need brakes too.. forgot to put that in there. i've never had any driver training.. learnt everything i know from just driving.. i've never taken any driving classes or anything either.. i learnt when i was 14 when my mom was too lazy to take a taxi to pick up her s-class so she shoved me in the cr-v and made me drive her to merc.. so i've driven for quite a while now.. mom let me drive the cr-v ever since i was 14. (in singapore minimum driving age is 18.) my favourite one was when i was learning manual haha me and a buddy wanted to learn how (we were like 16?) so we stole his dad's miata and stalled like 90 times but we figured out manual by ourselves.

Our dyno is back up and running after replacing 3 circuit boards. Not sure why they failed, but they did. Ardika, we should have your car on it tomorrow.

We attemped to run a newly designed "HPF Stage 2" pressure plate in Ardika's M3 to increase the clamp load but the SMG transmission didn't want any part of it. So we're going to run the same "Stage 1" clutch that we run with our other kits. At this point, we don't know where the "Stage 1" clutch will fail since it's already held up to 724rwhp in Robert's M3 and hasn't failed yet. If the clutch slips, we'll have to engineer an "SMG" alternative, but I think it will make it to 800rwhp without a problem.

The motor is already out of my M3 and we're now building it to Stage 3 specs. It will be ready to go back in the HPF M3 next Monday. I should have it up and running on stage 3 by the end of next week to join Ardika's M3.

Brian (BLuba) is considering stage 3 now, so if he gets it, his motor will get built as well, and we'll upgrade him to the larger turbo and full exhaust. :)

We also have 2 more M3's coming here... one from Florida and one from Tennessee. They're currently scheduled for stage 2.

Jim's M3 (our first HPF M3 turbo kit customer) should be back to our shop tomorrow. He's upgrading to stage 2 and getting some other goodies.

Oh, and our first DIY "Stage 2" customer drove his M3 to our shop last week and we dynoed his M3. He did all the work himself (without a lift) and did a great job. Nice work Jessie. I look forward to seeing your complete writeup, and also look forward to seeing your M3 run in the Texas mile!

Damn there's a lot of fast M3's leaving our shop. :)

We're still not to full capacity yet.... If you'd like to get your car booked for some more power, send an email to david@horsepowerfreaks.com or branden@horsepowerfreaks.com. They can both answer any questions you might have.

Take care,
Chris.

Ardika... We're getting close. Now we need to put some miles on the new motor. Here's a teaser video.

Jim's M3 is completed, and his car is leaving for Arizona tomorrow. He will be driving it back to Vegas for MFest.

On Ardika's "stage 3" M3, we're still breaking in the motor and doing street tuning. We will have results on that car very shortly and fully expect to get it to him in time for MFest.

We've also been working on the HPF M3. The motor is fully built and assembled. The engine bay is painted it's new color (Did I say this M3 was getting a wide-body? :)) Tomorrow our built motor goes in, and the car gets broken in and dynoed. Then off to MFest next Thursday and off to LA for the wide-body.

Here are some sneak peaks...
