How long is a boosted engine good for. I know BMW engines are good for triple figures easy, stock.

I was looking to put a supercharger in my car, but this car is a daily driver and needs to last a good 3-4 years. Lets say I run around 8PSI boost from a supercharge kit like AA for example. Remember I live in canada, so its very cold here in the winter time...

A well designed kit on a street driven car will have little impact on engine longevity. There are plenty of OEM turbo and supercharged engines that meet the manufacturer's requirements for durability.

ESS Tuning durability tests all of their kits for 50k miles before releasing them.

Thanx for the tips man. ESS might be the way to go... I wonder what a stage 2 ess will do in the 1/4 mile. Would it be in the 12s?

Member 330i ZHP, Stuart, ran his TS2+ in 95 degree heat & humidity and got low 13s I believe. He also has a 3.46 IIRC. With better temps I imagine getting into the 12s should be doable.

Depends on the driver.

I got mine to 13.9 after 10 runs. I never realized drag racing cars with a little power actually requires some skill. Cantjust mash the throttle and go. My buddy (another e46 fanatic) hopped in and got a 13.5 on his only run. Figured he could get low 13's, high 12's if he drove the car a few more runs.

I've posted in most of the reliability threads, and I'll say it again. I put the SC on my car with 167k miles, and it now has 183k, and is still running strong. I've taken it to the track, both strip and HPDE, and it's held up well. Just take care of the car, and it will last.

I understand, but in reality you only did 16k with the supercharge. I would liekt to see someone who did like 100+K with the supercharge on....

Doubt anyone has done more than 50k. Don't forget the zhp supercharger's only came out in 2006. I waited 2 years for TE to finish their kit. Got 18k miles of hard driving (drag strips, auto-x and street). No problems. Then got the FI cam without a tune and that was the begining of the end. Car now shuts off when braking to a halt from low speeds. Need to get the software tuned.

i think its doable. the first time i ran it with the superchager i was running about 13.9 -14.0. my last few times running it was drizzleing and i ran a 13.6 but never been back. beenfree's car has allot more power than mine so he should have no problem being in the high 12's. his mph was higher than mine

p.s. beanfree that intake thing def work. now i need to get rid of that pipe going to the intake. also the kw2 feel so nice.

I am putting out 309 on a mustang dyno (where a lightly moddled M3 (with intake and exhaust)put out 282.

I have never driven a car at the drags until late Sept., early October. The tires were cold. Track preparation was non-existent. The lightweight flywheel and the rear big brake kit made it impossible to do burnouts so I was unable to get any heat into the tires. As a result, I spent most of the time getting too much wheelspin. Best time, I got was 13.9. On the last day, a fellow fanatic got in it and on the first run did a 13.5 at 105.7x mph. He ran against the same M3 (see top) and beat it by 2/10th. He felt high 12's were doable. He did not get a second run because it started raining.

I think it depends on how good of a driver you are. Am planning on taking it this year and practicing my launches. Very low 13's high 12's should be doable. A good driver should have no problem getting those numbers.

I drove Beanfree's car in the 13.5 run, I felt like I did a crappy run, there was a good amount of wheelspin, the reason why I think that I was so much quicker than him was just the fact that I shift really fast, I think we both need to learn how to launch, I think the 60 ft for the 13.5 run was like 2.8 or 2.9, horrible. I have only dragged my E46 like 6 times and his car once so I don't have good launches yet.

We have a variety of kits for the BMW 3 series available including your model. Our kit will not shorten the life fo the motor in any way (as long as the motor is well maintained, it will last as long as stock).

Feel free to PM if you have any more questions.

Well I do dragg race preatty often so, I do have experience with launching, power shifting ect... I got my cobalt SS supercharge to a 13.7 at 106mph. (not stock obviously) I just dont want to spend 5000+ on a kit that i'll be thinking in 2 weeks after i bought it, **** this sucks.

But from what you guys are saying here, is that I would get 100whp+ with this kit. That should make for a preatty darn fast car.

Did the lightweight flywheel help alot? What are other modds that help.

Did you guys experience other problems caused by having more power? Like does the added hp cause tranny, clutch, axles probles? ect......

George also has cams and headers, his entire list is in his sig. The stock drivetrain is more than capable, just run a good fluid in the tranny and rear I recommend RP Syncromax and 75w90.

Where can you get this oil you are talking of?

I don't think the lightweight flywheel helps much because it is harder to keep it at a particular rpm. Also you make enough power with a supercharger to not require the lightweight flywheel.

I would definitely do the supercharer. I would not do much more than that. Cams and headers are a bit of a waste unless you can change the tune for them. Some weight reducing mods will help. Suspension mods are good. Big Brake Kits are a waste for the strip good on auto-x and road courses. Good short shifter will help.

Do you guys recommend a new diff? If so, what company sells a good quality, good price one? And what ratio should I look for?

Nope, unless you want a LSD, I think that Beanfree got his from Turner Motorsports.

Changing gear ratio's is not really worth it unless you are trying to extract every last ounce of speed from the car. Car rev's higher, worse mileage when you are cruising, more noise etc. I went with stock gear ratio and lsd from turner cos I am going to do more auto-x and track days than drags.
