255/35/18 tires on 18.0! fitted onto rear rims

Hi! I am new to this hope you can give me some advise.

I had my 2002 330 CI for about 5 months and I wanted to get some new wheels with summer tires on, so I bought 4 X 18.0 wheels and I just got 2 X 225/40/18 Falken FR152 + 2 X FR152 255/35/18.

But I realize/saw just now I needed 8.5 " wheels in the back (officially) Is this a (big) problem? does it make a big difference? and how?

....I can maybe swop th 2 rear tires if I have to but I like the wide tires...

I don't understand your question. Do you mean 8.0" wide wheels? If so, 255s might fit barely, but would not fit well (would bulge and not contact road so well)- 225 to 245 would work better. If the wheels are not staggered, then different width tires might make the back look puffy compared to the fronts.
