I was talking to a friend recently about some mods I wanted to get for my car and he said that the best bang for the buck for my 330ci was a turbo charger....
Said changing exhaust, intake etc..would lead to a chain-reaction of subsequent mods.
Thoughts out there..............

well, first off, he was referring to a supercharger (not turbo). Secondly, to get the most out of your turbo, you would want to do intake, exhaust, headers, etc...
either way, the supercharger will run you between 5-7k or so for parts and installation. As a result, unless you really want the speed, I would go for an intake and exhaust to get a little more out of your car and get the sexy noises :)

You can't turbo your car. Well, you can but nobody will be able to tune it and you will ruin the engine very fast. You should supercharge it instead.

other than fitment issues, i dont see the big deal about why turbochargers are only out for the m3, but not any other 3 series. if its really a problem of running them with the computer, im sure you could just go standalone. i'm not saying this would be cheap by any means, but some people on here have more money than they know what to do with, im surprised there hasnt been some sort of aftermarket for researching turbos in a non-m 3?:hmm:

Horsepower Freaks is supposed to be working on a kit for the 330 from what I've heard .. maybe the end of the year iirc ...
I'm sure they could chime in :)

Technique Tuning should be very close to releasing a non-M e46 kit. Search for posts here by NickG. I'm not sure if the initial release will support the newer MS45 DME or if it will be limited to the older MS43.
I would expect the TT kit to run in the $7-9k range and the HPF kit to run in the $12-15k range. Plus installation. :)
I'm guessing your friend isn't familiar with the BMW tuning scene?

Intake, exhaust, tune, etc will get you 10 - 15 hp (combined). Headers might get you another 15 or so hp but then you have to deal with CELs and passing emissions, depending on how strict they are where you live.

Horsepowerfreaks is developing a turbo for the E46 330's slated to be released in December of this year. Preliminary horsepowers numbers are said to be between 400-500 horsepower. But it's gonna cost you some serious cash. I think around 14k

Best bang for the buck, if your friend really wants a faster car, is to go buy a faster car. If a 330Ci is not fast enough, he should just look at an M3 or an N54 powered car and save himself a lot of trouble. (Assuming he likes Bimmers:P)
Best bang for buck "power" mod for the E46 is swapping in a more aggressive rear diff however.

Software = ESS
I've had the ESS and the Conforti (Shark). The ESS has MUCH nicer throttle response. The car ran cleaner overall.

I will make my car as fast as M6 for the money you have to add on top of the 330 to go to the M3 price :P

400-500hp? Must be crank? Unless they plan on swapping internals...

after what HPF did with the M3, i would wait and see what they do with the 330 before i get a s/c or anything else!
