Hi - I am seriously considering installing a ESS TS2 kit to my E46 compact 325 but I do not like the whine produced (as with all s/c's) ...

I would like to know if its possible to reduce or eliminate this noise completley - I guess adding more insulation around the unit and under the hood would be a start...

Thanks

whining is caused by expanding air after the TS gears. Have you ever heard of it and you know it will bother you?

Check my two videos if you want

Thanks for the vids ... yeah I have heard a s/c on an e36 as it drove past but I am not too keen on it and would prefer my car to appear stock. (I like the sleeper look / sound)

I guess I am the only one that does not like as most of the posts I see talk about increasing the whine :)

Viewed a few E46 AA s/c vids - the whine sounds higher pitched almost like a jet turbine - I assume its all down to the design of supercharger. I acually like this sound so may go for an AA s/c instead - both make around the same hp but the ess seems to be highly rated / tested.

At WOT, my TS1 whines like a turbine, but not very loud. It is kind of loud for my taste at idle though. It does not whine, but kind of a clappity clap sound. I would look at the torque curve as well as the HP numbers....remember, torque is what gets you going and HP is what keeps you going. You can have a huge peak HP number, but if you have a wimpy torque curve, drivability will not be so good....it may be a great drag racer or 1/4 mile car, but throw in some curves and it may not perform as well as a car with a lower HP and better torque curve....all depends on what you are looking for I guess...

Under normal driving the ts is almost silent.
With the radio you won't know it's even there.
Only when you step on it, the fantastic sound gets louder.
The power of a twinscrew is great. I love my ts2+.

the asa supercharger from technik back in the day was made to be quiet under idle. it is a german design

Cheers for the replies - Its likley that I will go down the ess twin screw route as it seems to be the better kit for diy installation - and ill just have to live with the whine, who knows I might even grow to like it :)

I really feel the TS2 is barely audible, just took my first drive yesterday....I am 41, I hate noise in general ;)

When you get into it, the sound is purely PERFECT! :)
