Shortly before 4ngiefest, the check engine light came on. I read it with a BMPdesign peake code reader. It had been a while since I used it, so I forgot that the first number is the table. :banghead: So I foolishly replaced only one ignition coil. The code came back on while I was on my way to Georgia, but since the car was driving all right, I tried to not think about it until I got back. When I got back into town, the light shut off.

Today it came on again, but this time I re-read the instructions and used the tool properly. E3 and E4 codes showed up ("oxygen sensor adaptation limit 1-3 & 4-6") As far as I can tell from the search I've done, is that there's too much of something, so the oxygen sensors can't compensate. From reading, it apparently can vary from as much as an improperly installed dipstick to a need for new VANOS seals.

The car has also been behaving oddly lately. When shutting down, there is a slight rumble (shake) that can be felt and somewhat of a quick knock. It never lasts for more than a second, however. It's especially noticeable after a long drive or on a hot day. There is also a smell associated with this problem. At first, I thought it was just the clutch wearing away, since it is noticeably slipping at times. It's kind of a burning plastic smell.

aftermarket engine mods:
AA stage 1 SC (the reason I'm posting it here - the previous posters with this problem didn't have this mod)
UUC TSE2

I'm going to start by checking all the seals on every part of the intake as well as check the MAF. I have a feeling the MAF could need a cleaning.

Any other ideas, tips, or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have an access to a better diagnostic software? I have a ProScan Laptop software. And if you don't mind driving to Pompano, I may help you out.
The best way is to give a visit to AA :)

Thank you for the offer sir. I may just have to take you up on that. I'm gonna do some simple trouble shooting this weekend, and if that doesnt take care of it, I'll be in contact. Thanks again. :)

you prob just need to replace oxygen sensors..

yo ck, the rumble and knock at the end of the driveon a hot day...

I usually let it sit abit, clutch in and gas til I hear the compressor spooool for a bit.. like a retard turb0 timer...i let oil recirculate and recirculate rev......

then shut down with my clutch in ..this seems to make it more happy..

Do you think itd be that easy? Isn't there a separate code for bad sensor/malfunction?

Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a try and see if it works.

when my oxygen sensors go it usually says something about circuit heaters..

and bank one or two..like 1-3 4-6.

might be e differnece in spitting out codes ion different readers

if your check engine light went away and came back , im pretty positive its emission related and oxygen sensor related.

oxygen sensors are not too cheap 100$ a pop I forget if it came in pair or not, but ive had my post cat ones go out firstr then the pre-cat ones.

"oxygen sensor adaptation limit 1-3 & 4-6" errors are a PITA to diagnose. If diagnostic software won't show any issues with sensors, it's a leak. You installed the kit yourself, didn't you? Check all the clamps that came with the kit.

i'll probably change the precat sensors just because i'm getting to 100K soon. i'm planning on installing a header soon, so i'll probably be ordering ghost sensors soon as well.

that's what i was planning on doing this weekend. i don't think it's a problem with the install, because then it should've shown sooner than a year from when i installed it.

if i can't seem to figure it out, i'll be in contact with you to take you up on your offer.

Well, clamps can get loose over time and some of them are out of sight, you should know. But before going that far, let's check what the DME will tell us.
Just send me a PM when you ready.

If you can give me a call tomorrow morning at extension 225 and I'll try and get to the bottom of the issue for you.

Yeah, I was thinking about that too. I'll give them a quick once over.

I'll probably be free this weekend. I'll let you know.

I'll try to do that. Thanks. :)

Well, this morning I did a lot of hard thinking and realized that I never got my boost gauge to work properly. So I completely disconnected it, reset the light, took the car for a test drive, and now it drives like new. :dunno:

Thanks for all the help guys. If the light comes back on, you'll be the first to hear about it. :eeps:
