View Full Version : about to buy a Ipod and dont have a clue about them

I am looking at getting an ipod, i know i want a video one. Do i have to use itunes to download stuff for the ipod?? what i am trying to ask it is, can i just put a mp3 or movie file on it with out any compatibility issues or do i have to use itunes??

You don't have to use iTunes to download all your music. However, you must use iTunes to upload your files. As far as compatible file types, I'm pretty sure the iPod can play .mp3 .aac .m4a and .mpeg4, and probably a few others. There's software to turn movies you dl into compatible file types for the iPod.

I think Senuti can send files both ways and you can use Handbrake or Quicktime Pro to compress video files for the iPod. Just use iTunes to manage your iPod though, there's little point in trying to use a workaround.
