I have the technik kit I recently got put on. the kit came with a 6.5 psi pulley. I upgraded to a smaller pulley, 8.0psi but used the same belt. it seems it could be a tad tighter. did you guys use the same belt when upgrading to a new pulley?

When I changed to a smaller pulley, I went to a smaller belt. Had an issue with belt slip with the smaller belt so just changed the alternator tensioner too.

hmm, the shop told me there is no tensioner now with the pulley replacements? if the belt is not slipping should I just leave it be or is it robbing hp?

If it's hitting the 8psi that it's supposed to then it's fine. Do you have a boost gauge?

Generally it would be a good idea to switch to a smaller belt..

no, no boost guage. I get the car back next week. In the shop the belt seemed tight but felt like it could go a bit more. I have no clue either about the proper size belt for the technik kit and the smaller 135mm pulley. If I get a dyno done, does the dyno measure boost as well or just the hp?

You need to get a boost gauge installed. Also, get a dyno done on a Mustang dyno (they measure boost). This way you can see how accurate your boost gauge is. Once you have calibrated it against the dyno, you can tell if your car is running well. One more thing, watch the boost curve on the dyno, if the curve is jagged, then chances are the belt is slipping. If the curve is smooth but power is not upto what it should be, it is probably a boost leak.

thx for the advice, however after dropping so much $$ in the car I can't pay for a set of guages + install which kills the deal at $90 per hour. I will go to a mustang dyno and have them measure the boost and hp. I will then look at the graph and post a copy for everyone to see here.

I understand your position.

However, keep in mind that for the 250 or so for the gauge and install, you will be able to tell whenever you have a slight boost leak or belt slip. I drove without a gauge forever and was never able to find small problems with the car.

IMO, a gauge and a mustang dyno (checking for ignition timing advance to see if the cam timing is too far advanced and causing detonation) are a must for every FI car.

thanks, but I will have to 3 guages I cannot just buy one and I care about how they look in my car. The leatherz vdo guage kit is $300. The shop will charge me 4-5 hours of labor at $90. I cannnot spent $700 to 800 on guages,

The 8psi belt is 6PK2390.

On the topic of gauges, I'd rather you dropped the vdo gauges. Those are horrible. I posted a long while back about gauges. There is a difference between $30 gauge and $150 gauge. It lies in the electronics in the gauge and the sensor. Cheap sensors mean larger reading error. And should the temperature increases, the error may increase.

That being said, I have had my ASA SC for the last 5 years. Tracked and competed in it. Once you jumped into the FI pool, you have to spend more than you think. There is no such thing as I will set aside $X and that's it. Cos something else will always come up. You will have to replace parts, upgrade parts etc. Then of course save up for the ultimate engine rebuild. Hope I didn't scare you too much.

glad to hear your ASA is working great. thx, I will try keep expenses to a minimum for things I can control, what guages would you recommend that are not over top for the future when I buy? defi? do you think I need the smaller belt? Will the car put out any less hp with a belt meant for the 6.5 pulley?

If I were to get the 8psi pulley upgrade from Technik, would I need a software update? Would this hurt my auto transmission? I just hit 96k miles and my tranny feels flawless..

If you're changing the boost level you need to reflash.

Defi, Greddy are all pretty decent. Besides the resale value is pretty good.

Shorter belt. Not smaller. The belt is used to transfer work load EFFICIENTLY between all the pulleys. Why would you want to use a belt that is not meant for the job?

No s/w update needed.

If you've a 330 with step, I would advice against 8psi.

i went ahead and bought the right belt and gave it to the shop. I'm glad I did because when listening to the car today it would occasionally squeal.

GODDDDDDDD DAMMMIT

the shop said the belt that was recommended is the same size as the old one. **** I am out the price of the identical belt and the labor. I needed the part number for the 8psi pulley belt as stated above, not the 6.5 psi, the shop says the belt part numbers match. how do I get the right belt? the shop is also telling me there is no way to tighten the belt, was the tensioner removed with the technik install kit?

I just got a hold of Zolti at autotalent, the correct belt is 6PK2375. Mr. Paddleshift, you had good itentions but you cost me $100 in labor for nothing. the belt size you qouted is for the 6.5psi that comes with the kit.

I think you are being a little harsh on Vince. He was only trying to help. In the end, it is your decision to accept what someone says on the forum as fact and act on it. You should have checked the belt no. on the belt in the car and gone with a 0.5 inch smaller size. That is what I did when I had to go with a smaller belt.

You may want to consider apologizing to Mr.Paddleshift. It is one thing to point out that someone is wrong. It is another thing to point out that they cost you a specific amount of money (as if you are seeking to be recompensed) which is the way it comes across. My .02

I do not see any reason to apologize. I mentioned in the post that I understood Vince had good intentions, however, he did cost me $100. I even pmed him before buying the belt and he confirmed the part number a second time. He tried to help, made a mistake for whatever reason and cost me $100, just stating the facts, nothing else.
