Welcome to the board.
Just to clarify, you've had a turbo system built on your stock 323 engine. Are you now looking to replace this engine with a 3.0 block?
What engine management system did Brad sell you, Pectel SQ-6 or Motec M600...or did you pony up for the M880? Since you are running a stand alone, what dash are you using? The new Pi piece, or an ADL.
I know exactly what a GT35R can make, your mechanic should as well. Your injectors will take you to about 500hp, but your stock fuel system won't. What fuel system upgrades have you had done?
My thoughts?
I would have put $$ into a forged bottom end (you have cast crank, rods, and pistons) before spending $10+ K on a stand alone engine management system.
It's your car though...
Any build pictures?

HES GOING WITH A STAND ALONE.
So what does that mean. You do know that a stand alone, by itself will not work on these cars if you want to retain your drivability. With a stand alone by itself you will have no A/C, no power locks, and so one. You have to tune the stand alone like as if it is a piggy back, and run it in tandem with the factory ecu. Not an impossible job, but not an easy one.

hello all in am replying to all questions at once first of all thanks to everyone for stopping in, second yes i will have pics of the bottom mounted gt35r next week once i get it dynoed i am just waiting for the standalone they told me it would be in this week! yeah. i was unaware that the standalone would not run power locks a/c etc i was told it would act just liek my stock ecu but be able to tune for this application? is this not true. I got the evo sport aem custom made standalone specific for my car it was only $2,300 shipped. i am using my stock dash as they told me this would work but added a steering column gauge pod for 2 gauges boost vac , and exhaust temp.
my mech does know what the gt35r will do but just not on a bmw he is a r iice tuner and has only dabbled in bmw but he is the best there is in mn so i went with him!

i am trying to decide if i want to redo entire bottem end to beef it up or just go with a 3.0 liter 330 engine i believe these are 3.0 liters. We are going to see what kind of fuel pump etc upgrades we are going to need once we get the ems in!

Upgraded return system, higher capacity pump (dual in-line depending on your goals), larger injectors to start with.
You are far, far better off getting a supercharger kit and then adding a wet kit. SC kit will be tuned properly, and wet shot is a nozzle change to tune.
Also, in terms of the bottom end, if I was in your position I'd be getting forged pistons, rods and crank. Depending on the model you have you may have the cast iron block. You might want to look into beefing up the valve train, but I don't know of any companies off the top of my hand that manufacture a kit for that, so its going to have to be scratch built.

I'd worry less about sound and more about not putting a rod through your block. I can only think of a few people on here that have gone the SC+nitrous route, so its not like it's a common mod. It's smarter and can produce the same power and still (if you want it to) maintain as a DD.

This wouldn't be the same "tuner" in 2007 that took a GT1 Corvette out on the highway to "street tune it", then ended up sending it to a certain tuner in Georgia because the client wasn't happy?
$2300 buys the AEM box, that's it. No wiring, and certainly not compatibility with VANOS. Good luck.
I would be wary of bringing Evosport's name into this, Brad is very protective of his company's reputation. Perhaps I should have him comment on this in person, as it's the only time an AEM has ever been proposed for a VANOS engine?

I think you will find me to be quite helpful.
For instance, this should be your cylinder head:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=AM33&mospid=47718&btnr=11_2170&hg=11&fg=15
Note the dual vanos; the AEM can not control this.
Evosport's website says:
evosport/AEM - EMS Stand Alone Engine Management, Plug N Play (Basic System), BMW M52 OBDII (2.5L/2.8L/3.0L) - [EVO.ENG.EMS.M52. (http://www.evosport.com/product/proddetail.aspx?partnum=EVO.ENG.EMS.M52.001)
I would call Evosport with your VIN # to confirm that your engine is single vanos. If you are running single VANOS that is not infinitely adjustable, the AEM can do the job. The AEM can not control dual VANOS.
I never mentioned names about the GT1 misfortune, the point was to make you aware that there are many people that claim to be pros.
For what it's worth, there are very very few E46s that have been turbo'd. All of them have been built in private, and never really shown publicly on forums. If you succeed in this, you will be the first in many years...

Evosport has a reputation of delivering the goods, you are in good hands.
If the AEM can't handle your specific engine, you have 2 options:
1.) Buy an engine that the AEM can handle. (They have lots of experience with M52B28s)
2.) Use either a Motec or Pectel EMS, both of which Evosport sells.
In either case, this type of project isn't easy. It usually takes months of work and calaboration, and is fairly expensive.

Hey guys, Brad here. Jacob has asked me to jump in, so I am going to try to address a few points.
This is simply not true. On any of our AEM PnP kits that we have sold, you do not lose any of this functionality. And on the 99 e46 323 that we helped build for EA Sports and Tuner Transformation (as shown on TV), we used an AEM to replace the factory ECU as well as installed an AA blower (as well as many other things). Again, this is on a FI e46 just to be clear.
so with the the stand-alone you wont have ac or anything like that...is there a possibile way to have all thatAgain, not true.
Upgraded return system, higher capacity pump (dual in-line depending on your goals), larger injectors to start with.
...
Also, in terms of the bottom end, if I was in your position I'd be getting forged pistons, rods and crank. Depending on the model you have you may have the cast iron block. You might want to look into beefing up the valve train, but I don't know of any companies off the top of my hand that manufacture a kit for that, so its going to have to be scratch built.Great advice.

Perhaps I should have him comment on this in person, as it's the only time an AEM has ever been proposed for a VANOS engine?Hey there Pei330ci. Just to clarify, the Basic PnP box does include wiring as well as functionality on the 99 e46. See the vehicle above that we have installed it on.
It is not a common application, but the 99 is a different beast. It has drive by cable, not by wire - which makes things much more simple. There are some other differences as well that make it easier.
The later cars are more of a challenge, and often do require more of a piggy-back approach.
Again, if we had not done this one very public project above, I would be more concerned.
Evosport has a reputation of delivering the goods, you are in good hands.

Yes, of course, if there are issues or complications that are unexpected, we will certainly stand behind the work and assist in the project.
Thanks!

all my worries are laid to rest, and i am just waiting for the harness to be built very soon as per Brad's email. All doubts are now laid to rest and i am like a kid in a candy store i just cant wait to have this in my car and tuned i think it will be a beast with that gt35r, i am assuming that eventually i will need to build up bottom end and fuel delivery system, but i cannot decide wether to build up current engine as it is rebuilt to factory spec with only 5000 miles, or to have Evosport build me an engine that would unleash this beast from its cage lol! i am so excited, and believe me when i say Brad the owner of Evosport is as good as it gets! period he has been great every step of the way thanks Brad!

Just as a quick update, there have been some delays that were our fault. It took longer then expected to find a dead ECU for the e46 (we use this to scavenge the plug for the PnP). Some minor confusion between Jacob, his shop and us led to another short delay. All is worked out and he should be back on the road shortly.
Thanks
