Performance BMW Sept ESS 550 Supercharger Kit (High Bandwidth)

Just purchased the latest September edition of Performance BMW magazine and came across this great article on the new ESS 550 Supercharging kit.

Installation was done in the UK by CA Automotive for a SA chap after he had a close dice with a 911.

Pretty cool story, trying to get hold of Shane now for a drive... :excited:

Seems to be the first installation in the UK.

Anybody know how it compare's to AA's supercharging kit ?

I recon the ESS and AA are VERY similar kits.. remember that both are designed for r-hand drives so they will have similar issues.... the ESS is however using the TS3 same as the newer AA kits due to its flatter torque band and earlier power.... they are claiming 525hp-- exactly the same as AA so the trick is gonna be where where they dynoed and on what machines... i recon they will be pretty damn similar though

but saying that, aa probably aren't far behind...

i am quite impressed by the r&d done by ess:

We have three goals to meet before any ESS engine related performance product is released for sale :

1. Our 60 hour computerized load dyno test, which simulates driving so hard that it is just not possible to drive this hard in real life.
2. We put the development cars through a 50000 mile (80000km) long term test which involves track driving, high-speed Autobahn driving for extended periods, and normal everyday driving.
3. The car must have factory like or better driveability and smoothnes, and it must develop the extra power in a smooth and perfectly balanced manner.

When we meet these 3 goals with 100% success, and only then, the product is released for sale.

AA does their tuning on their Mustand dyno as they don't have access to autobahn's like ESS does... that said... the number of AA kits out there in the US, Oz and the East means that AA has had LOADS of customer feedback and opportunity to iron out their creases.

Yeah the ESS 700 looks VERY exciting... but it will involve opening the engine and lower compression... fitting new pistons etc... looks very exciting although I emailed them and they said it will be an inhouse fitting not a kit.. so unless you are in sweden soorrrrry for you!!

LOL, that trip is going to be a lot easier to do while you still there in the UK :)
