View Full Version : Would using domestic muffler clamps on my bmw exhaust be a bad idea???

So my aftermarket exhaust just came in the mail the other day and i'm planning on installing it some time this week. This particular exhaust requires cutting somewhere around the midpipes, and the use of two 50 milimeter muffler clamps to bolt the muffler pipes to the mid-pipes, hence the exhaust to the car.

So to make a long story short I went to the dealer the other day and gave them the part number for OEM 50mm muffler clamps, and they quoted me around $20 each.:yikes: Thats $40 dollars for some stupid clamps. After that I called a muffler shop, and asked them if they carried them. They basically said yes and no. They said they have the equivalent in inches, which isn't 100 percent precise...

Now heres my question; After doing the math, 50mm comes out to about 1.9 inches. Would I be safe going with these clamps for a substantially cheaper price, or would that tiny fraction of an inch cause problems....??

Thanks,
-Will

Why didn't the exhaust system come with the required clamps? What brand is the system you got?
I have used these guys before.
