View Full Version : Gauging Interest in a HPF Rear Subframe Reinforcement Group Buy

HPF Chris

As I continue to hear reports about subframes tearing, I'd like to see if there would be interest in doing some preventative maintenance from everyone. We could do a group buy on the HorsepowerFreaks Subframe Reinforcement Kit and/or on the installation as well to get a bunch of cars stiffened up. We can also do the bushings and control arms at the same time.

Chris.

The M3 isn't even as weak as the non-M. We really need this deal for non-M since our subframes are soda-can quality. I'm worried about putting in an LSD with sticky tires, and I don't even have boost.

The parts and labor should be the exact same, so I don't see why Chris would care if it's non M's...

We may include the non-M's in this as well. Let me do some research and determine the labor costs associated with that car. We'll design different plates for it if necessary.

The Turner kit also contains 2 block off panels for the trunk floor. Their kit requires cutting 2 small holes in the trunk floor to do some welding from the top side. I'm jumping to a big conclusion here but I'm guessing the HPF reinforcement is slightly different in this regard. I'm not implying that it's better or worse, just addressing your question about the Turner kit having more parts. Turner recommends about 15 hrs labor to install their kit and my installation was in line with that estimate. Group buy or not, this HPF deal is a real steal in my opinion. Either the HPF kit requires much less labor to install or labor rates up in OR are dirt cheap.

I'd highly encourage people to take advantage of this if at all possible... just search for my thread here in FI if you really need a reminder as to why.

Here are some pictures of us installing the Turner kit in Ardika's M3 (Our kit has thicker plates and they've been designed to cover a bit more surface area. We do not weld another plate in the trunk as shown in the pictures below because we've been able to do it in such a way that this isn't necessary). All the cars since this one in the pictures below have used our subframe kit. Both the Turner and the HPF kits are great. There's only so many ways you can make plates to re-inforce the subframe.

Yes, I will give the discount price on the kits that I ship as well. The BIG savings with this deal is on the installation however. It is a considerable amount of work and we normally charge a lot more to do it.

We reinforce the top of the subframe from the trunk. The trunk itself is not reinforced.

We can do cars on the weekends as long as it is coordinated. I will need to shift days around with my staff. Depending on where you live, you could drive up Friday after work, and hang out in Portland while your car is being done. We've got the time down so that we will only need it for about 8 hours. My techs will be freeing up from projects in about 2 weeks. So we could schedule it.

Just let us know.

Take care,

Most people get the lower control arms first thing. If you ever look under there, they're literaly made out of sheet metal and they bend all the time. Just strap the car to the dyno using those one time and they'll bend up like a paper clip. The UUC control arms are made of chromemoly steel and aluminum so they are very rigid. They also allow you to set up your camber to whatever you want whereas the factory camber adjustment is very limited in its range. The RTAB's are easy to do when the rear end is out of the car. We can do them with the rear end in as well, but if you're going to do the subframe reinforcement you might as well do the RTAB's.

We're doing the subframe reinforcement and subframe bushings on an E46 330 next Wednesday. If everything fits as we expect, we're going to extend this group by to the E46 non-M's. :)

The subframe can tear over time where the rear end bolts to it. We sell plates that are welded to the subframe to provide the structural rigidity it needs to keep from tearing. Email david@horsepowerfreaks.com if you'd like to get in on the group buy pricing

Here are shops on the East Coast that can install them for you. http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/hpfdealers/

Yes... Send an email to david@horsepowerfreaks.com and he'll get them on their way to you.

more of a discount to do the RTAB's at the same time? I'll need to do this probably on either a friday or saturday.

Shoot an email to david@horsepowerfreaks.com and he'll schedule you in.

Wow. Really good price for kit and install. I got it done at about the same price with my group buy I set up in NY.

[QUOTE=HPF Chris;8692516]We're doing the subframe reinforcement and subframe bushings on an E46 330 next Wednesday. If everything fits as we expect, we're going to extend this group by to the E46 non-M's. :)

Chris.

It should work out fine since we had e46 330's in the group buy and we bought the same reinforcement kit as the m3's.

so...did this already happen? seems like an awesome deal but i'm still doing research to figure out if i need this or not. i have suspension mods planned out but for the moment my car is stock. i dont intend much more power than the stock m3 comes with but i do take the car into canyons alot. still trying to figure out if these subframe failures are due to power, cornering, potholes, age...etc
