Hey guys,
We've been very very busy lately. After working with Scott and Brian, we decided to create "race fuel" maps for all of our stage 2.5 customers. The idea (Brainstormed by Brian) was to run low boost on both pump gas "AND race fuel", and high boost only when methanol was on. This allowed us to make more power than the primary fuel system could handle by completely relying on methanol as a secondary fuel source when methanol was used. If methanol ran out or there was an interruption in methanol delivery, our safe-guards would kick in and revert to low boost.
This allowed us to create significantly more power anytime methanol was used. Scott Wheeler's car came to us for both a subframe reinforcement and the extra two maps for race fuel. His car made 691rwhp (uncorrected) and 667rwhp (SAE corrected). The torque was shocking at 570ft-lbs (uncorrected) and 551ft-lbs (SAE corrected). I look forward to seeing Scott's new 60-130mph times. Hopefully he can beat his 6.43 with the 50rwhp extra and the new tires!

Now we get to the fun stuff. We already know our stage 1 and 2 M3's have been fiercly beating nearly everything on the street even including some bikes! They have an amazing powerband with an incredibly quick spool that provides instant boost at almost any rpm. We've seen the videos and the 6.85 60-130mph runs.
Well, the first time I drove a stage 2.5 car, I thought it was over-boosting because the power seemed too strong for a 67 turbo at moderate boost levels. When we overlaid the graphs we realized that we picked up an astonishing amount of torque. This next graph is pretty astonishing knowing very well that the stage 2 spools quickly. Check out the race gas + meth of a stage 2 car against race gas + meth of a stage 2.5 car....

What's ridiculous is that the lower curve looks like a slow spooling car, but it isn't. It's an amazingly quick HPF stage 2 M3. Here's a graph of a stage 2.5 on race vs. stock.

Brian knew that his car would be a complete torque monster and he wanted to be able to go full throttle in any gear at any time. He opted for the optional traction control (standard with stage 4) with his stage 2.5 beast. Here are some pics of his gorgeous white stage 2.5 M3 and a quick video of us testing 1st gear launches in the parking lot. Brian's car is getting the final race fuel tune later this week and will be shipping out.

Congrats to Scott and Brian for having the first 2 Stage 2.5 Beasts on the road. I can't wait to see how these machines stack up against other highly modified cars.
Take care,

Wow as always, great work by HPF. I just have one quick question, why does the torque falloff so quick with the Stage 2.5 vs. the other stages, I even took a look at the Stage 1,2, and 3 on the website and they have a much flatter torque curve before tapering off in the end while the Stage 2.5 peaks but then falls off a quite a bit much faster than the other stages. I saw this the most in the Stage 2 vs. Stage 2.5 race fuel and methanol and pump fuel + methanol graphs you posted Chris, is there any reason for that or are you guys tweaking the curve even more prior to shipping off?

Torque always falls off as rpm goes up with turbo cars. The fact that our stage 2 kits hold torque to redline is due to the extremely high efficiency of the high compression motor. That is uncommon, and causes peak horsepower to be right at red-line. It's much better to have a fatter torque band where horsepower is increased throughout the entire rpm range and not just at redline. If you ride in a stage 2 kit, it feels like a jet that just keeps going faster. If you ride in a stage 2.5 kit it feels like you got rear ended by a freight train.

Ahh, thanks for the explanation Chris, I do know about the turbo cars having torque falloff that but I was just wondering why the stage 2.5 fell off so fast. Even the stage 3 even holds its torque much longer than the 2.5 as shown on the site's dyno. Is the fact that the Stage 3 runs a 74mm and the stage 2.5 is running a 67 that seems to start flowing a bit hot that causes the torque falloff in comparison to stage 3? Stage 3 has the best of both worlds, sick torque holding until redline(like stock compression) and the huge surge of power that hits way before redline(better than stage 1,2 and 2.5), that I'm sure will decimate all and thats why of course it's Stage 3. :D Now we'll all hide for stage 4 and 5 finalized numbers. :loco:
http://www.horsepowerfreaks.com/images/products/horsepowerfreaks/Stage3.gif
BTW, which exhaust was that on the car, it sounded mean. I also think that the Methanol button should be called the real "M Button" M for Methanol and M car of course ;) for the HPF cars. It would be nice to see the button with the BMW M Logo on it and it illuminated once its on. I'm sure the stage 2s love the added 140rwhp and 105rwtq by a flip of the switch vs. just plain old pump, Stage 2.5 gains 60rwhp and close to 90rwtq. Stage 3 gains 140rwhp and 110rwtq by the flip of that button. I think HPF puts the real M button in the M3. :D
As always I'm just enjoying the feedback, knowledge and threads about the HPF cars and boosted M3s in general. :pimpin: It would be nice to see some Stage 3 cars with the traction control system attempt the 60-130mph runs.

I have Toyo T1R tires, the rears are 285/30/19. That's the widest I can go without rolling fenders, and I rub a little if anyone sits in the back seat. I'm sure I can beat my 6.43 60 - 130 time with the race fuel/methanol map, but I'm probably going to need 17's with drag radials to get under 6 seconds.

Brian,
You have to be chompin at the bit to drive your car. For safety you should strap on some Depends. I still haven't driven my car with the new race + methanol map, that should happen this coming weekend. Be safe. :)

Stop teasing us! lol Did you run into any cars that though your car was sick since it sneezed (SSQVs) and it overheated because it has a extra big radiator sticking out the bottom of the bumper (FMIC)? If anyone asks you tell them its Flu season and BMW reliability acted up again and your car caught the flu, it sneezes alot and its temperature is high making it need that extra large radiator shown in your bumper. ;) Of course we know thats the BOVs and FMIC in disguise. Keep us posted.

I had a tree fall on my house last weekend in the wind-storm. The general contractor came by my shop today for me to sign the documents so he could do the repairs. He has a lot of clients with BMWs, and Brian's Stage 2.5 M3 was ready to be picked up. Hmmmmm want to go for a ride?
That car is just plain sick!! I told him that this car can keep up with liter bikes on the top end as I was putting around for about 5 minutes letting the motor warm up. I think he was thinking sure it does because there's no way to tell there's a turbo in it during normal driving.... Then I opened it up and it pulled right through 4th gear in around 1 second. He **** his pants and was shaking the rest of the time. He even called me back a few hours later to tell me he's still shaking. Don't worry Brian, I cleaned the **** up for you. :)
Please let us all know what you think about your car when it arrives.
Take care,

I don't think that will happen. It will only be lower boost/hp until I fully break in the motor and clutch. I have owned high HP cars in the past, so this is not anything new to me. No driver mod needed here. The difference here is the SBBC/traction control setup. :woot:
